The sequel to Lonely White Woman came out 13 years after the first film. It’s a long time to be able to go out on the glory of the original, but enough to create something similar but independent. In general, this would be the only successful way, because the original story is over, it will not continue, and all attempts to mention will be regarded as shameless imitation.
Unfortunately, director Keith Samples failed to create anything new. And it could have happened, because after so much time, society acquired a completely different formation and received new social problems that could be beaten. The attempt at adaptation was -- we have two young ladies working in an advertising agency and fighting for promotion, as they say, strong and independent women who are too confident to fear loneliness and lack of attention. But there is another problem: in this rhythm of life, with new values and opportunities, there is no place for friendship, only calculating cynicism and competition. A little more smeared on the eternal question of caste and thoroughbredness, but it is the smears - all this is only mentioned, not disclosed, is present as background scenery. In addition, a lot is either behind the scenes, or really in the XXI century, everyone is so fast – like, living only a couple of days together, Holly and Tess became best friends, and Holly in the meantime forgave David, for me a secret, and it looks ridiculous.
But instead of developing these lines, the director constantly returned to the original. A lot of things and even whole scenes are frankly slick. Seeing these echoes, it is extremely difficult to perceive the film as something independent.
The same fiasco among the characters. The acting is quite mediocre, not to say terrible, but they missed the stars from the sky. But there is not much to play - all the characters are flat, all the same scenery without live emotions. Jan is a typical career bitch, David is a typical scoundrel man, who in words “I love” and in fact “your girlfriend **”, Tess, whose character in the original film was called Hedy and could cause the viewer understanding and sympathy, here turned into a popular kind of dissatisfied with life woman-maniac, and Holly, although the victim, and also a little emancipe – threats rash, steel in the eye, so how this such a burnt woman was so deeply sad for her, added to the past. Due to the typicality of these characters, their behavior is predictable a few steps ahead, and therefore, especially if you watched Lonely White Woman in 1992, you can safely rewind the boring moments.
If you draw any conclusions from the musical accompaniment, it is worth remembering that the composer for the original film was Howard Shore, and there the music was part of the action. Here is the usual background set.
As a result, Lonely White Woman 2: Psychosis, despite the loudly stated title, is only mediocre in the whole thriller, constantly turning to the 1992 film for his trouble, which clearly does not benefit him, because they are as different as heaven and earth. This option is the land
