The original book about Shrek, authored by writer William Steig, was quite popular among young readers, and nevertheless, it received true fame only after the eponymous cartoon by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson was released in 2001. This was the first powerful animated triumph of the studio “Dreamworks”, which subsequently spawned an entire franchise.
The events taking place in the cartoon take place in a far, faraway state, where a formidable ogre named Shrek lives on the swamps. He has the fame of an inhospitable cannibal and he likes it, since in his possessions there are almost never unnecessary lost souls. But everything changes when a legion of magical creatures suddenly appear on Shrek’s doorstep, including three piglets and even a talking donkey. And with the latter, Shrek has big problems.
The donkey decided to become Shrek's friend, and he didn't need it at all. So Shrek decided to figure out what was happening in his swamps and went straight to Lord Farquad, who drove the unwanted out of sight. And Farquad as a whole does not mind solving the Shrek problem, but only the ogre must go on a hike and save Princess Fiona from the formidable dragon, after which the ruler marries her. So Shrek will have to go almost to the end of the world and with him, of course, tied the Donkey.
The audience liked the cartoon Adamson and Jenson due to the fact that it was radically different from the classic and slightly outdated monotonous fairy tales from the Disney studio. The authors of Shrek set a goal to ridicule the established canons of the genre and it turned out to be simply unsurpassed. They did not forget about all the key fairy tales and made each of them look grotesque and absurd.
Take the same Pinocchio, who also arrived in the swamps to Shrek. He's always lying and his nose is growing. However, he does not even think to repent and looks incredibly funny. Yes, even blind mice appeared, which are also very difficult to kick out of the house, because they have nowhere to go and have the audacity to take. And this is only a small fraction of the characters that the authors put from fairy tales on the screen.
But what pleases me the most here is the duo of Shrek and the donkey. They are constantly fighting and harassing each other. But at the same time, friendship is born between them and it shows that any of us can change. The main thing is to open your heart to your neighbor.
Shrek is a great cartoon and a funny comedy. I even count. That it is more suitable for an adult viewer, who certainly will appreciate the humor of Adamson and Jenson, as well as numerous parodies on the classics.

The cartoon “Shrek” is an unforgettable adventure that captures with its unpredictable and exciting storyline, magnificent characters and a rich sense of humor.
The whole film is built around an interesting and unusual concept - a hidden world of fairy-tale characters who are suddenly expelled from their homes and forced to settle in a swamp ruled by the evil ogre Shrek. The main character - Shrek, in itself is an unusual and unique character. He differs from the typical princes and princesses with faces with a huge nose, unkempt appearance, and also burps. However, he manages to show the audience that real beauty and kindness come not from appearance, but from devotion and good deeds. This allows the viewer to empathize with Shrek, to love him.
The cartoon is thought out to the smallest detail. The creators did a great job of developing the characters. Each of them has a unique personality and charisma, which gives the film a special atmosphere. For example, the main female character, Princess Fiona, at first glance, seems an ordinary and stereotypical heroine, but over time the viewer learns about her unusual secret, which expands the plot and makes it even more fascinating.
One of the characteristic qualities of the cartoon Shrek is its humor. It is presented at different levels, making it accessible to a wide audience. At first glance, it seems that the film is aimed at children. However, the film has irony and satire aimed at adult audiences. The viewer can see hidden messages about the nature of stereotypes and famous fairy tale narratives, which is an additional plus for the audience experience.
Finally, Shrek offers viewers important lessons and values. It emphasizes the importance of accepting ourselves as we are.
Overall, Shrek is a fascinating journey full of laughter, surprises and experiences. It leaves a positive impression and causes a desire to review it repeatedly. This is a family cartoon that can attract the attention of both children and adults, and become a real masterpiece in the world of animation.
So today I'm going to tell you about my favorite childhood cartoon - Shrek.
The plot is that the main character lives in a swamp and then suddenly Lord Farquad (who does not like all magical creatures), exiled them just to this very swamp. Farquad agrees to reverse his decision, but for a small favor that Shrek owes him. . .
I don’t know who came to the city to create a cartoon about an ogre, but this idea came to a mass audience. Such an uncouth and rude, but with a good soul character. Even in the cartoon there is his main assistant, a friend - Ass. This character already adds dynamics and comic to the cartoon. He's constantly on the move, hyperactive, and he likes to get Shrek. I could paint this about everyone, but I will not - then you will not be interested in watching.
The graphics in the cartoon look decent even after 22 years, and this is a real miracle! only the other day it was revised and, damn it, here I like graphics more than in modern Disney! Maybe that’s my nostalgic feeling!
Musical accompaniment at the highest level, there are many already cult tracks: "All Star" - Smash Mouth, "I'm a Believer (reprise)" - Eddie Murphy and many others.
What do we have in the dry residue? Colorful characters that cause a reaction in the viewer, memorable, cool music, the plot of the film, which is very dynamic - the right thing for children. As a result, the cartoon turned out to be a cult. He is one of my favorites.
This cartoon caused a real stir in the public and even now, more than 20 years after its release, it forces viewers to share on “haters” and those who have a positive attitude to this creation.
I have a positive attitude to this cartoon, I review it quite often and do not find a negative impact. This film is not intended for children. The 12+ rating confirms this and it is strange to see that this cartoon supposedly negatively affects children’s minds. It should not be seen by children, it is not intended for them!
In the story, an ogre named Shrek lives in his microcosm on a swamp. Later on his way there is a talking donkey, on the same evening his quiet life ceases to be such, because that evening a huge number of fabulous creatures were exiled, unfortunately for the green giant, all of them were in his swamp. In order to get rid of unwanted guests, he, along with the donkey, goes to the one who exiled them. Lord Farquad, who at the time was holding a knightly tournament, was initially not happy about the encounter, but later sent Shrek and the donkey to the castle with the dragon to save his eventual wife. For this, he would move all those exiled to another territory. This began the journey of our heroes, on their way there were many obstacles, and they did not end even after the rescue of the princess.
In the cartoon, there are many hidden subtexts and jokes that you can not see after the first viewing. I didn’t see many of them until 5 minutes later. For example, when the lord looked through the magic mirror at Princess Fiona in anticipation of sleep, a certain incident happened, once again confirming that the rating of 12+ was given to the cartoon for a reason.
Well, what ended this story you can find out by watching this cartoon.
The release date was in 2001 and for that year the cartoon was made qualitatively. Shrek was one of the first cartoons made entirely with the help of computer animation and at that time it created a real furor. I cannot give this cartoon a rating of 10 tons. there are cartoons that make me more excited. This is a good cartoon to watch with friends, it is great to relax and laugh.

So today I will write about my favorite cartoon of childhood - Shrek.
In the center of the plot is a big ... but not an evil ogre - Shrek. He lives in a swamp and does not touch anyone until people come to him. That's actually where it all starts! And then he finds friends and a lady of heart!
In fact, this cartoon is quite a lot of negative reviews and write them mainly mothers who are dissatisfied with a large amount of toilet humor and all sorts of not particularly pleasant scenes of such content. Partly I understand their dissatisfaction, I did not like it either, but you need to understand that the film is about an ogre. And you probably haven't seen any clean ogre anywhere, have you?
The cartoon has very colorful characters. Shrek is the main character who wants his swamp and everyone to fall behind him, but at heart he is very kind and sensitive. The donkey is Shrek’s friend, who always bothers him and creates problems. Fiona is a girl whose parents have imprisoned in a castle and who is waiting for her... Prince Charming, but this too with a surprise. The antagonist Farquad is not bad, but no more, liked that he was short - a contrast to his conceit.
Cartoon drive and eventful, the characters are constantly changing locations, watching it fun and interesting, do not get bored.
In terms of graphics, I do not know about you, but I such a graphon and in 2022 suits me, 21 years after the release, which means graphic designers coped with hurrah.
I will also highlight the musical accompaniment - I am sure that at least one of the tracks presented you have already heard somewhere! And most importantly, they are perfect for the events shown on the screen.
If you haven’t seen this movie (maybe there are still some), I recommend it to you.

This year, the animation classic turned 20 years old and after such a long time, Shrek remains a relevant and high-quality cartoon.
Shrek is a complete contrast to Disney’s fairy tales of gentle princesses and outcast princes who bravely fight dragons. Shrek is a perfect reflection of modernity, where stereotypes and prejudices are fortunately being destroyed.
Everyone is used to the fact that beautiful means good, and ugly - dangerous and evil. The main character of the cartoon Shrek is not a handsome man on a white horse. It is an ogre, green and fearsome, living in its lair in a swamp far from people and civilization. He would be satisfied with his "role" ogre, if not for the meeting with Fiona - falling in love with her, he faces his attitudes that he can not be with her, because he is a "monster". And monsters don't do princesses, do they? . . .
What I love about this work is the banter of classic fairy tales and Hollywood. The humor here is awesome, he came to me as a child and especially now when you understand more jokes and references.
This movie teaches you to be yourself. It doesn’t matter who you are, what’s inside you is more important. You can be a wolf in a dress, a stupid donkey or an ogre - in any form you can find happiness.
I review it every year and recommend it.
This is the worst animated film of 2001 It's Bad Humor and Shrek Total Idiot and get tired and don't look at it at all and thank you for your attention.
It's the worst violent horror movie of 2001 and don't watch at all I don't understand why people like Shrek that Wicked Ogre and thank you for watching.
“Shrek” was very lucky to be released in 2001, when there were fewer similar cartoons with three-dimensional graphics than the fingers on your hands. Reliably drawn ogre, people and donkey so much surprised inexperienced viewers that they almost did not pay attention to one problem, a feature that runs through the entire plot – the primitive plot idea. It's strange to say that about parody, but if you think about it, it's true, because parody itself is secondary. Therefore, parodies with praise do not favor. Is it worthy of praise "Shrek"?
Even the laziest and most backward viewers have already ridiculed the opening scene a million times, which literally immerses the audience in the toilet. The question that will never give me peace of mind is: what good is toilet humor? It's disgusting, it's disgusting, and sometimes it's nauseating. It’s amazing how disdainful the creators of innovative cartoons at the dawn of their existence were to viewers’ squeamishness, because – let’s be honest – what do you associate Shrek with? Apparently with bubbles, a village toilet and jokes about the small size of Lord Farquad. The small size of all parts of the body, including the penis, which the characters almost speak out loud when they see a tall castle on the hill from afar. So, according to the director, that's why we turn on cartoons? No, thank you.
All other aspects of Shrek are very scathing ridicule of typical European fairy tales about dragons and princesses. The idea of parodying fairy tales is not bad, but when it is seasoned with jokes about interspecies love, it becomes no fun. The cartoon goes overboard with carelessness, sometimes turning into a real thrash. Otherwise, this can not be called a perversion of the category. In addition, ridiculing certain clichés, “Shrack” itself adheres to fairy-tale rules about kissing, love, masculinity and so on. Double standards, don't you think? Oh, yeah, there's also a talking donkey with Eddie Murphy's voice. It is in principle funny, and only for his sake and you can recommend “Shrek” to view.
Constantly sliding to the sorter-genital theme, the cartoon gets from me:
It's a very bad movie in 2001 and that's why I hate it Shrek Stop watching it like that because it's cruel So never watch this movie You should never deny my review.
I watched the Shrek cartoon the other day. I liked him as a kid, but he wasn’t on my favorite list. However, this is the cartoon that is made not so much for children, but more for adolescents and adults, since it contains many moments that children will not understand.
The main advantage of the tape, I believe, is its originality, originality and courage. At the time of the release of this work, it was a real adventure that might not work. But knowing this, the creators still tried to change the idea of cartoons and they succeeded. This picture literally turns the concept of cartoons and says that your stories do not cause such emotions and people want novelty. In addition, the film demonstrates that the world is not perfect and you do not need to look at everything through rose-colored glasses. He's more down-to-earth and that's what makes him feel good.
I have heard the view that the painting has no morals or message, but in my opinion it is absolutely not. In fact, the film discusses many important topics. The problems of friendship, recognition in feelings, acceptance of oneself, overcoming complexes, loneliness are considered here and this is only the first thing that comes to mind. In this aspect, the project is not inferior to many popular and beloved works.
Also, the tape has quality humor and beautiful music. Characters regularly joke and sneer at themselves and each other. Also, black humor is rare for cartoons, but it is not as much as the framework of the genre allows. But throughout the narrative, we are accompanied by beautiful soundtracks, from touching classics to drive-filled tracks that make many scenes even better. Well, this picture makes a bonus of pleasant references to famous films and cartoons, which cause a pleasant smile on the face.
Conclusion. I recommend everyone to watch this tape, if you have not seen it yet, and if you watched it as a child, then watching it as an adult will open this work from a new angle.

To be honest, I have almost never seen Shreka. Except that I watched the first part a couple of years ago and yesterday (at the time of writing the review) and glimpsed the second film on TV. I often came across postironic memes with Shrek, which is why I watched this movie a couple of years ago. Yesterday I decided to refresh the story of the first part (and arrange a shrekomarathon) and, frankly, did not regret the time spent: the film is good as I remember it. Well, first of all, the story.
Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. Alas, she became a victim of evil spells, which could destroy only the first kiss of love. She became a prisoner of the castle under the protection of a terrible fire-breathing dragon. Many brave knights sought to free her from prison, but all were in danger of death. And so, under the guard of a dragon, she spent her days in the highest tower of the castle, waiting for the kiss of her betrothed. Ha ha, you did! What a mess! With these words (and with the song, the first line of which I put in the title) begins the first “Shrack”. I think the next scene where Shrek kicks his toilet door was seen by everyone, even those who haven't seen the movie. As it turns out, Lord Farquad, the ruler of Dulok, the nearest kingdom, exiled all the fairy-tale creatures to the main character in the swamp, in his house. Ogre does not stand up and decides to deal with Farquad and regain his bay. Along the way, he learns that the story from the beginning of this paragraph is not nonsense, but the real truth. But I will not retell the whole story, it is better for you to watch this cartoon yourself.
So, the characters.
Shrek is the main character, a huge green ogre (in the official translation he is, however, a troll, a giant, but not an ogre, which is strange). He lives in a wooden house on a swamp, cut off from everyone at his own request. Very unkempt, instead of water often uses dirt. He likes to scare people hunting him, and he is very good at it: he can easily scare even a knight.
Donkey - the prototype of the horse Julia from the "Three heroes": all the same incredibly chatty and deliverable. He's one of the few people who didn't get scared of Shrek even when he yelled at him. They even made friends. Thanks to his charisma, Donkey was able to talk to the spoiler antagonist (although, considering that I have already written that the story from the beginning of the film is not nonsense at all, not this antagonist and spoiler) and transfer him to the side of the main characters (that is, including myself).
Lord Farquad is the ruler of the kingdom of Duloc, looking for a wife to become king not only de facto, but also de jure. His height is low, over which the cartoon authors constantly joke. He is the main antagonist (not the one the Donkey was able to make friends with).
I could talk about the princess, but I think the character is quite spoiler, so I can only say that her name is Fiona and that she is not an antagonist.
Let’s move on to other things.
The graphics here are looking good even now (at least on a typical phone screen from 2018). I think the artists did their job well. I can only imagine how amazing it was in 2001 when the film was released. Well-written and well-chosen music is also a plus. I’m sure the track SmashMouth – All Star became popular thanks to Shrek (at least in the post-Soviet space – for sure). And the main musical motif of the cartoon is associated only with it and is remembered for a long time. I also want to note that there is a huge cloud of black jokes, absolutely adult jokes and, of course, tons of mockery of Disney.
In general, Shrek is a well-drawn (or, rather, simulated) satirical cartoon, ridiculing the entire then Disney, with a good plot, with excellent graphics at the time of release (now just good), with memorable music and an abundance of black and adult humor (and, oddly enough, with a rating of 6+). And this is also a classic animation that I advise you to watch or revise if you have already watched.

For twenty years, the cartoon, as time flies and when similar things begin to do, so much effort put the master of his craft, and the director and the script, our dubbing is also super super.
One of the most iconic cartoons for both children and adults is, of course, Shrek, which is the quintessence of a fairy-tale plot, sparkling jokes and an addictive plot that can be revised for years.
The story is a parody of classic fairy tales about beautiful princes and princesses, evil ogres, terrible dragons and other various magical creatures. The characters are taken from folklore works of different peoples (the magic mirror from Snow White, the Beautiful Prince and the fairy godmother from Cinderella, etc.), who live in a time that seems to be close to the Middle Ages, but in fact has the features of our century, and are caricatures of various types of modern man. And although the cartoon has elements of ridicule of modern society, it is still largely a fairy tale, leading to a deep moral, relevant at all times.
Sometimes, so many clever thoughts and correct ideas can not be found in, at first glance, a deep film or even a book, and then the creators, denouncing all this in such a ridiculous shell, did almost the impossible - showed what is real evil and what is true good. And all this in the example of such atypical, but such charismatic characters! I would even rather show my children Shrek, and not some modern children's cartoons, which seem very bad at bending with the "old school".
Here the picture itself is qualitative, and deep ideas, which may not be open, but will definitely teach the right, will help to assimilate such simple life truths in the form of a jokey and pleasant fairy tale. Well, for adults, there is humor, which is the highlight of the film. It seems that adult jokes are veiled in an interesting fairy-tale medieval context, not understandable to children, but coming very “to the place”. Definitely the best Dreamworks movie for me. By the way, the other cartoons of the series came out no worse, but I was struck by the first part. This must have been the first impression effect.
In general, this is, I will not be afraid of this word, a movie that seems quite simple and even superficial, but in fact it is not so. And I would advise anyone who has not yet seen this work of art (if there are still such “unenlightened”), to look at the first part, and there you can get involved.
This year, another of my favorite cartoons, Shrek, is celebrating its anniversary. I can't believe it's been 20 years since it came out! I really like to review every part of Shrek from time to time, but I especially like the first part.
It's an unusual cartoon. He's not like the rest from start to finish, from the scene of Shrek coming out of the toilet to the swamp party. Here everything goes “not according to the canon”, unconventional. There are no beautiful princes or princesses. The main character is a terrible and evil ogre-inhuman, and his companion is a chatty and stupid donkey.
This film teaches us to accept ourselves as we are, with all our shortcomings. He shows that appearances can be deceptive, because people with beautiful appearances often have an ugly soul, and vice versa. He teaches forgiveness. He teaches you to be friends. He shows that all people are different, someone talkative, someone sullen loner, someone hiding from everyone in the “tower”, waiting for the beautiful prince on a white horse. Everyone can make mistakes, everyone deserves a second chance.
I recommend the film to every child and adult. There is something to think about and learn.
I wouldn’t revisit the plot, but it’s a masterpiece of jokes and music, because the older you are, the more references you see. Even for 2020 - this is a brilliant transition + the perfect selection of compositions, if you did not watch the recommended watch at the age of 15!
Perhaps you should not start the review with an excursion into fairy tales, the adaptation of which was carried out both by the film studios of the Soviet Union and American Disney, it is enough just to indicate that the function of fairy tales was instructive and of course certain ideals and behavior patterns were laid in them. For the entire period before Shrek, perhaps this oppression of ideal characters, coupled with the typical moral and internal weakness of the broad layers of the masses, and led eventually to the fact that some people sat down and decided to destroy everything, qualitatively, yes, with humor and good actors, but give people the opportunity to be themselves in the form of such “Shreks” – vile trolls, and in fact typical rascals, but about everything in order.
What Shrek is good is obvious to everyone. But what's bad about it is it's harder to see.
Initially, we have a farting dirty and rude troll living in the mud in the swamps, who is presented by the filmmakers as a hero and he goes to save a typical princess. But if in classical fairy tales this would be done out of the motives of helping someone in trouble, then here the moral hero is not burdened with anything, which is very modern and close to the average man in the street, for whom the word “morality” is something swearing and squabbling, the hero goes to save her only because of the urgent household question, which in fact deprives Shrek of at least some heroism, because he does not care about everything, except his own puddle with Mr. mud.
On the way to him, a certain donkey named Donkey pesters (hello to all those who are angry with modern creative impotence even for names, forgive me, my face burns with shame every time) and this Donkey just has an acute need for friendship, affection, etc. The object of which is Shrek, and through this donkey - Donkey, at the same time, the disclosure of Shrek, as a character who is actually kind and sweet "for all this armor of external malice and misanthropy", but do not rush to shed tears, it will leave without any development. Do you want to empathize with such a character? And I'm personally fed up with clichéd antiheroes who save worlds, but they don't care about this world. Maybe because it does not fit either with reality or with the inner logic of the character, or maybe because of the fact that a person is a “mirospasun”, to look at another pneumonia jerk or a boring alcoholic, or just dull, even in the presence of dramas and tears under the sauce of “realism” consisting of some psychological Tragedies of the past, which the writers sculpted, inspired by the book: “Psychology in 5 minutes” – just sick.
It's the same with Shrek.
The film also has a vinaigrette of some modern references, which gives it a touch of finished pink pop and even a kind of glamour.
Having omitted the dull and clumsy disclosures, dramas and sufferings of the main characters and approaching the obvious template ending, Shrek makes a horse move and instead of presenting children with an ideal to be striven for in the form of a well-bred and attractive princess, replaces it with a fat and cheerfully farting troll, and a snow-white castle with a dirty and smelly swamp with a rotten snag. That is, you do not need to strive for anything, Shrek teaches us, love yourself as you are, because nobility is dull, and “with a nice paradise and in a hut, and with worms – so in general.” Do not work on yourself, and the princess can be cheerfully grunting and throwing feces from the quagmire.
Thank you at least did not remove how Fiona turns into a district hopotess and does not go on the courts, spitting seeds in Adidas with his beloved in the dorm to drink a waterman and cook over “Our Rasha”, although the whole “Shrek” is about this.
The following parts are traditionally even worse.
Shrek and his entourage have long become a mainstream part of any social network and now it is difficult to find people who have not even heard about the brainchild of DreamWorks. But is the Shrek franchise so simple and linear, is it so funny to watch the deviance of the “evil, green ogre” and is this fairy tale retreated in its satirical wrapper from modern society?
Creation of Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson “Shrack” started back in 2001 and was far from the best, even at the time of release, in terms of visual, cliché characters, if viewed superficially. The only clue that in our latitudes made a cult personality out of a green good man is a gacky and tough, sometimes nasty satire on Disney and all its background with princesses, princes, dances, balls and other set of things, from which even children fall asleep as unnecessary. We will not go into detail with the plot, I would like to consider the dramaturgy, a four-part epic about social “ignorance” and the falsification of an unprecedented sociopath, his role in a disgusting fairy-tale world.
Shrek. Who's Shrek? The green, terrible, eternally stinking both verbally and nonverbally org, which has long since put the horse on self-affirmation and reconciled with its position as a deviant, asking for a little - not to disturb him and the swamp, eats all his interesting rubbish, secretly sad and looks at the stars.
You might think that he does not care at all about the role of antagonist, likes to run and scare all sorts of pseudo-brave villagers, but is that all?
The good thing about this film is that it treats Shrek with complete confidence simply as a local owner, with apathy looking at other areas of activity, mocking the environment, capitalism and power, mocking all these “perfect princes”. But it just seems. In fact, our GG - sometimes depressed, and from that and evil MAN, much more than the rest, became exactly what we see in the beginning only from the fact that the "face" did not come out (by analogy with racial discrimination). Under the role of a wide toad hides a very soft and vulnerable MEN, who is so full of shit in his swamp that he especially does not want to continue, proving to a stereotypical society other formulations of life. This is a very subtle satire of a stupid herd running around with torches and not delving into the meaning of their actions. This is a ballad from stupid princes raised in greenhouses by caring mothers. A stalking manifesto simply at ourselves, interpreting through the prism of blunt metaphors that sometimes you can not pay attention to the opinions of “authoritative critics”, but simply listen to your heart, forgetting about the social role of your seemingly regulated life. The fullness of the colors of this film is that our green goblin was not afraid of his feelings, did not continue to faint-hearted society, found the strength for great friendship, pardoning those who have not yet been rewarded by God with intelligence, to be where he should have always been. Not for himself, but for the person who helped him understand it. That’s what the first two installments are good for, and it’s an ironic conclusion to this legendary franchise that taught a little bit of analyzing kids about democracy, the abomination of segregation, and all the other things that are so important in life. The third and fourth parts were almost unnecessary. But while the cow gave milk, it was milked.
Just applause for the ever-relevant masterpiece, which after many years looks interesting, with "smoke" and tears in his eyes.

Cartoon ' Shrek' watched, probably, all children born in the 90s. This, indeed, in its own way, has become a classic - the cartoon has become native to many people. And all this is due to the cheerful fabulous energy, lively, dynamic development of events, bright colors and good animation, humor. But the question is, if you dig deeper, what kind of morality does this cartoon flipper carry? What is behind beautiful visualization? We have a princess brought up and raised in the best palace traditions, but fighting like Rambo, burping so that Shrek himself nervously smokes in the sidelines, the greenest ogre, the terrible, unwashed sociopath who kills fish with his fart for breakfast, drinks cocktails with someone’s eyeballs, scares everyone in his own way, rudes and rudes everyone, and, of course, the legendary donkey. The latter is at least a little sympathetic, as he is loyal, reliable and wise, being a little annoying and talkative, is still not some useful character. His role is to show how humiliating and ungrateful Shrek can be, in relation to others, and at the same time, he is responsible for a good half of jokes and sharp skirmishes in the cartoon.
Then there is the Spandic, Lord Farquad, who suffers from a dwarf complex, cruel, cowardly and arrogant. And a lot of fabulous evil spirits that do not play in the cartoon almost no role. The characters are not enviable, to be honest. Let us examine their characters, goals and motives. Shrek burps, farts, washes in a puddle or does not wash at all, lives in a swamp house and is not going to change at all. He's fine, why bother? And at the end of the film, he doesn’t develop either, staying in his old disgusting comfort zone and bringing the princess there. Fiona, the royal daughter by blood, is completely devoid of femininity and aristocracy, adopting all the habits of Shrek, forgetting about who she was born. It's very illogical. This work is filled with cruel moments, covered with cheerful music or jokes. This is how a bear made a mat in Lord Farquad's house, Fiona killed a bird with her singing, and then fried a scrambled egg from her children, or inflating a toad and a snake in the form of balloons, ripping off the limbs of a live cookie. And it is presented in a funny way, so that children take it as a norm.
There is also a very bold hint of sexual relations, in the form of jokes or almost frank scenes. This is the moment when the princess wanted to pull an arrow from Shrek’s fifth point, the episode where Farquad, with a bare hairy torso in his bed, looks at Fiona in the mirror (and what was in his head at that moment?). That's why you have to show it in a children's cartoon? And countless jokes about causal places? It is absolutely impossible to show everything to children. The meaning of this fable is this: why stress, if you can not strain? Why do you want to grow and get higher? What if you could go from being a princess to being a dirty troll and live with the same troll? This cartoon breaks the beautiful meaning and canon of the fairy tale 'Beauty and the Beast' where the latter, not differing in character from Shrek, looking at the clever and beautiful Belle, wanted to become better, kinder, smarter and more civilized for the sake of love. The creators probably wanted to show that one should perceive everyone as they are. Well, well. And you can not wash, and rude, still you will be accepted as you are! Cool! I also don't understand the line 'love'. Donkeys and dragons. What is that? Why? For what?
There are advantages of the cartoon, well overshadowing the disadvantages. This is, firstly, a fascinating and interesting plot, which you want to watch incessantly, and secondly, masterpiece music and songs that create epicity in some moments, brightness and wonderful animation, landscapes and castles, a good disclosure, albeit not quite right for children characters, a worked out and correctly submitted theme of friendship between men (Assel and Shrek), pleasant, colorful energy, lack of gloom.
I don’t recommend it to children, adults can sometimes watch it.
5 out of 10.
Hey, everybody. I began to review my favorite cartoons of childhood and could not ignore this masterpiece. Yes, you are a masterpiece in the genre of animation. Now I will try to explain why I think so. I love this cartoon since childhood, and as you know, everything that you watch as a child acquires for you the so-called shade of nostalgia and because of this and because of it you can criticize it as an adult. However, even watching it now, I can see that it is much better than many cartoons (made in the era of 3D) and it is no longer about nostalgia. This cartoon has all the qualities that a real masterpiece in the field of animated films should have, namely:
- interesting and charismatic characters (and for different tastes here you have a talking donkey, and an ogre, and many other equally interesting characters)
excellent humor and banter (the humor here is really very much, it is different and always comes, and after each new viewing you can find jokes that have not been noticed before)
- a great soundtrack (it's very cool here and I've added a lot of songs to my playlist)
Excellent history and morality
In general, I consider this cartoon one of the best. I would recommend watching it for older children, because watching it now I understand how much humor was missed when I watched it as a child. A great cartoon and absolutely deserved Oscar.
So lucky that the duo Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson was not only a great debut, but also a completely epochal event in the niche of 3D animation. And it’s not even in the technical side (which, however, also has its innovation), but in the “wall” of sweet Disney animations that DreamWorks breaks ruthlessly and playfully. For contemporaries, it looks at least a breakthrough material, and now, Shrek is a chic irony on absolutely all the pop product that was then the place to be.
Yes, the story about the troll-social phobia is not childish, and has a completely adult subtext. But it is done so filigree that the first will not be bored watching, without any other impact on the psyche.
The brainchild of Adamson and Jenson is a real diamond, the success of which can not be repeated by everyone to this day. A kind of "Lord of the Rings" from the world of cartoons, with Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy for the place Mortenson and Bin. And let this statement not sound pathetic, since this work has everything that a fairy tale should have: the opposition of good and evil, friendship, love and, of course, an unshakable morality: people, trolls, donkeys and in general everything in this world is not so simple. Layered like an onion. And, as it may seem to many, excessive realism only gives the shabby plot “fresh” and drive.
I thought love was only true in fairytales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
"Shrek" is one of those paintings that plunges headlong into its atmosphere not just with the beginning of the plot development, but from the very first seconds. I can’t remember a single cartoon whose opening musical theme has stuck in my soul as much as the calm and rhythmic composition written by John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams. It is called “Fairytale”, thus identifying this very atmosphere of a fairy tale, which animated film about a green giant is saturated through. But this story is not simple, but special. A fairy tale with a fool, so to speak, but not in a bad way.
What a monster!
- Not very polite... Normal donkey. (c)
Imagine a classic fairy tale story in which a beautiful prince on a white horse, overcoming fire, water and copper pipes, rescues a beautiful princess from the clutches of a terrible monster. Imagine? But now forget, because from the very beginning, only slightly creating the illusion that the plot will develop in this way, the cartoon makes it clear that to hell with such stories. And just as Shrek erased a page from a fairy tale book, the film itself is erased by Disney canons, thus demonstrating its competitiveness. The most remarkable thing here is that the hatred of "Mouse House" on the part of the management of DreamWorks studio can be understood just by watching this cartoon. And there is no need to go into the details of the corporate drama, Shrek will tell you about them. However, behind the displacement of hatred, reinforced by banter and sparkling humor, lies what many people love this cartoon and are ready to return to it again and again - the soul. It is difficult to put into words how sincerely the problems familiar to many of us and the ways to solve them are revealed here. The way the characters overcome these problems eventually leads to a semantic background that would be useful for both children and adults, and the proximity of individual situations to life, coupled with the presentation through the prism of fairy tales, make the story of Shrek more native. Perhaps that is why this cartoon is still considered the most soulful within the franchise, and maybe the most soulful among all the works of the animation studio DreamWorks.
But even taking into account the fact that the picture with suspicious frequency ridiculed elements of fairy tales, it itself does not cease to be a fairy tale. Albeit turned upside down, but still close to heart a good (well... with some reservations) fairy tale, which differs from most of them in that here the characters overcome the obstacles facing them and resolve conflicts by their own efforts, without the help of any genies and magic wands. And if you need a piano in the bushes in the form of a dragon, it is already in extreme necessity, and the dragon has its own quirks. What is important is that the cartoon is a kind of fairy-tale crossover that united characters from fairy tales of different times and peoples, and later skillfully placed them in a setting close to the realities of those times.
It is also worth noting that Shrek can be counted among a number of cartoons, which with age are perceived more clearly and perhaps even better. After all, it is with the expiration of time, when the ability to analyze what is happening on the screen and enter into dialogues, it becomes easier to understand the artistic value of a work of cinema. And then, if in most modern cartoons, the main message (if any) is served on a platter in direct text, then Shrek went a different way - in it the main message is veiled under two seemingly completely unremarkable dialogues, during which Shrek and Ass, it would seem, just talk on abstract topics. In addition, there is an opinion that it was Shrek that predetermined the standards of modern animation. And, having thought for a while, you involuntarily realize that this is so – for example, the characters have become not only good role models, but also textbook images for the creators of many modern cartoons (it immediately becomes clear where the Ice Age legs grow). So this cartoon is of great importance not only as a product of the film industry and as a work of art, but also as a cultural phenomenon.
But do not forget that the spectacular end of the presentation is no less important than the spectacular beginning. However, the creators did not pump up and under the incendiary hit “I’m a Believer” by Smash Mouth closed the curtain behind the characters. Until the next part, of course. And the viewer, meanwhile, with tears of joy will remember how he had the opportunity to see someone who changed the world of animation forever. That legendary Shrek...
Shrek burping and gasping. What could be better for children? Nothing.
The film is filled with jokes “below the belt”, gags at the level of kindergarten rhymes and the highest degree of dementia of the heroes. They are worthy of each other.
Shrek as the Green Ogre (or Troll?) It lives in the roots of the Great Tree. Dirt, abomination and physical ugliness. The main joker of the whole film. It is good that some of the jokes were cut out by our translators.
Fiona is a princess. The evil Disney cartoon Dreamworks always envies. She doesn’t act like a princess, but like a kid. Typically, female behaviors as such are absent. A great example for girls.
Donkey, donkey. By behavior, it's probably a goat. The main "generator" of toilet humor after Shrek. Coward, loser, lazy.
It seems that all the characters of this cartoon are mentally ill. Maybe that's true.
The breakthrough in the collection of various fairy tales in the early 2000s was made by Shrek. I remember as a little kid on VHS watching it a few times. Bright, funny, big and green.
The story at the debut was interesting, new heroes, new challenges and most importantly, a reimagining of Sleeping Beauty. The cartoon ridicules the familiar story, adding more humor and tolerance to it. The animation catches the eye now, the main characters are too highlighted, and the background blurs when defocused. But you do not care about this when charismatic heroes with good dubbing in Russian are revealed before you.
Shrek gave a lot of emotions, a lot of nostalgic feelings. Unfortunately, over time, the franchise began to roll: shorts, spin-offs ("The Cat in Boots") do not cause the effect that is inherent in the first film. This is the story of a lonely giant man-eater (for publicity, so he is a sweet), who lives in his swamp. The cartoon from the first episodes is amusing, sometimes toilet humor, but it is fun. A fairytale world inhabited by different creatures themselves. Here you can find characters of many fairy tales. Of course, no one has heard of Shrek, so he stands out from the rest. Yes, he's the main character, but we've never heard of him, hence the curiosity.
Rules the whole fairytale kingdom of the short lord. So to achieve his goals, he blackmails Shrek. Although for children, the cartoon raises many important issues: social inequality, the mendacity of the authorities and the injustice of the state system. But bright and funny begins the rethinking of fairy tales. The adventures of Shrek are the fun that he is a loner, and then immediately a partner, and various creatures, getting confused under their feet. How to cope with this giant, it is better to feel for yourself.
Love and barrier. When you have already enjoyed the jokes, got used to the images of the main characters, there is a great melodrama, and the message shows that appearance is not the main thing. Mental intimacy and secrets let the viewer into the whirlpool of incredible events. A fairy tale inside a fairy tale. The curse of the evil witch and the unexpected result.
During the whole trip, Shrek changes, becomes more responsible and attentive. His partner, Donkey, is an ever-talking animal that served as the root of many funny episodes and a sleeping beauty. Against the background of all that is happening, the cartoon is rich in a wonderful soundtrack, adrenaline and melodrama. It’s a great family movie that never gets tired of watching.
Don't you think that birdie in the 49th minute is pretty brazen? Oh, hey, I definitely wanted to sing to Fiona. Sit in the nest, hatch your eggs, you fool. House by the road ...
Man, we're already a hundred percent classic. Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson created a fairy tale. In 2001, on a cassette, I watched with my eyes bulging. Now I decided to review Shrek - I'm already grown, guys. But I still like Shrek. The cartoon is very bright, the cartoon is very funny.
About his Oscar. If you forgot, Shrek beat the Monsters Corporation and Jimmy Neutron. With Mr. Neutron everything is clear (the cartoon is average), but for the Monsters Corporation it is insanely offensive. Why? Because "Pixar" at one time made to let down a tear.
They ate the dog in this case. The animators from DreamWorks lose in terms of drama (I talked about it once). On the other hand, who ever said that all cartoons should be tear pressers? There are no tears in Shrek, but there is humor, adventure and magic. He's uplifting all day. It makes you believe in love.
And this is also a cartoon with meaning - don't look at the appearance, look at the essence. And heroes can't be forgotten. Especially Donkey. Stupid character! It's great to be voiced by my beloved Eddie Murphy. The perfect hit of a cartoon in a real actor. Talking tirelessly, ahaha. By the way, after all, many comrades tried to parody this donkey. Take a horse from our "Rich Men."
Yes, a cult cartoon, we will not argue. Shrek himself evokes endless sympathy. A terrible green troll, but at heart very kind and fair. There is an opinion that the cartoon is quite rough, that is, children should not watch. Bullshit! Look at modern films and cartoons, “Shrek” immediately seems harmless fairy tale.
Understand one thing - this is the beginning of the 21st century. Our hearts demand change. Nobody forbids you to watch old Soviet cartoons or Disney’s grandfather. And the Monsters Corporation deserved an Oscar much more (again), but there’s nothing terrible about Shrek. This is a really cool cartoon that influenced the entire animation of the 21st century.
P.S.
For the parody of wrestling and the song "Hallelujah" - special thanks!
- Oh, what a monster!
- Not very polite! A normal donkey.
At one time, this cartoon revolutionized animation. The story of the green ogre has had a bombshell effect among viewers of all ages. I will try to understand the success of this project.
Unsociable green ogre Shrek lives in his swamp and enjoys life. But the quiet life comes to an end when the swamp begins to inhabit fabulous creatures. So appreciating loneliness and solitude Shrek decides to deal with this and goes to the city to Lord Farquad, who sent the heroes of fairy tales in exile to the swamp.
I did not write the synopsis in more detail, because it is better to see for yourself. Of course, I doubt that there are still such people who are not familiar with the characters of this franchise, but if they suddenly remain, then it is better not to postpone acquaintance with this story. And I would even say a legendary story.
The storyline is quite original and interesting. Taking as a basis the famous fairy tales (or rather their characters), the creators weaved into the narrative a bunch of new heroes, invented from scratch, parodies on famous Hollywood projects, and beat it all in a funny light. No one had done that before 2001, and Shrek was a breakthrough.
I think we should talk about the characters separately. For four feature films and a bunch of small shorts on the screen appeared a large number of characters. Both familiar to us since childhood, and invented especially for this animated universe. But in the first film, the viewer gets acquainted with the backbone of the main composition of the franchise.
Shrek is a huge green ogre living in a swamp. Very annoying and appreciates loneliness.
The donkey is a very talkative and boring donkey, but not without a kind of charisma.
Princess Fiona is a character collected from the images of various princesses from fairy tales.
About the rest, I do not see meaning, because they do not have a strong influence on the main storyline, and the main load lies on these three characters. Which, by the way, voiced venerable Hollywood actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz. Unfortunately, in Russian dubbing it is impossible to evaluate the palette of original voices, but I think the cartoon did not become worse.
Very original and fun cartoon, which spawned a bunch of good sequels. Watch everyone!
As far as I can tell, there are more movies on television in early January than at any time. It is hardly possible that the New Year holidays on the First channel passed without “One house”, “Poor Sasha” and some animated franchise. This year, for example, the first four Ice Ages will be shown in reverse order (without any idea why).
Now that we're all less dependent on the grid, it doesn't matter where it's shown. But there is no point in denying the habits already acquired. Especially since there is nothing wrong with them. Recalling one of the franchises that like to spin at such times, I decided to first of all this year to review the first part of the series of films about green heat Shrek.
Fighting for it was a little scary. The three-dimensional animated film of 2001, primarily known for its ridicule of fairy tales and parodies on popular films at the time of release, etc. – in short, there are tons of reasons to fear that the tape is terribly outdated. However, a fresh look showed that in reality everything is not so bad.
As someone interested in the history of animation, I’ve been fascinated by how DreamWorks Animation worked on an image from the beginning of the twenty-first century. It was a real breakthrough for its time. But, compared to the current development of technology, the words about 63 unique characters and 36 locations seem childish. Due to the inaccessibility of the current capacity of computers, the creators had to use all sorts of tricks in rendering, that is, reducing all three-dimensional elements into a single picture, now irrelevant.
So yes, the film is technically outdated, but that doesn't interfere much with its artistic perception. I was particularly surprised by the quality of the emotional work on Princess Fiona’s face, which combines perfectly with Cameron Diaz’s equally unexpectedly good voice. Even now, to see such good facial expressions and hear such a wonderful work of the voice actor - especially a celebrity - is expensive.
Overall, the voice actors are very good. Eddie Murphy as the Donkey is quite funny and not annoying, Mike Myers as the same ogre from the title also pleases. But at the same time, he approaches the role a little differently than did the voice of Shrek in the Russian dub Alexei Kolgan. And to be honest, I like Colgon's version a lot more. Compared to her, Myers sounds very painful ... simple, if I may say so.
In terms of the plot, everything is quite uncertain. The writers, among others, are Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, who you may know from Aladdin and Pirates of the Caribbean. In general, the story is quite good. The idea of a monster-introvert, forced to save the princess, was implemented well, as was the subsequent version of Beauty and the Beast with a very correct and unused turn at the end.
But in some places the tape fails. The most striking of these is the moment when Shrek near the end hears a selective passage from the conversation between Fiona and the Donkey. And, of course, he misunderstands it, which leads to another completely contrived conflict. Everything would be nothing, especially since this is an important part of the overall plot, but this element is so stamped that such forces cannot be tolerated. They had to ironically beat him, and not the habit of animated films to sing - it was much better.
Speaking of music, Shrek has a very interesting situation. Since the film, although it takes place in a fairytale setting, but feels more like a modern comedy, the songs inserted into it are perceived quite organically. It was particularly gratifying to hear Rupert Holmes’ Escape (The Pina Colada Song) at the moment when our villain, short Lord Farquad (John Lithgow), chose Fiona as his constrict. Plus, the original music, on which two students of Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian) and John Powell (The Bourne Identity) worked at once, is quite good.
The main dissonance of the film is that in the total mass of technologically breakthrough tape turns out to be a simple adventure comedy, albeit with a couple in a good sense of extraordinary elements. Besides, the jokes in the movie aren’t particularly good for the most part, and none of them made me laugh out loud. Against their background, a couple of very unsuccessful - about burping and farts - there is no desire to forgive.
So it’s perfectly possible to enjoy it outside of historical context and without considering how much Shrek has taken root in pop culture over the years. But that would hardly be enough to justify a revision. But if you take these things into account, then another viewing of the cartoon would be more of a good idea.
