The action of the seventh part of the franchise about the doll-killer Chucky takes place after the main character of the previous film Nick Pearce spent four years in a mental hospital. The girl is convinced that she is to blame for the death of her family, and not some doll named Chucky. Due to the successful brainwashing, Nick is transferred to another hospital, where a local therapist decided to use a new method of treating patients.
I don’t expect anything from every new Chucky movie for a long time. The franchise began to roll back with the second part of “Children’s Games”. Yes, there were glimpses of something intelligible and interesting in the fourth picture of "Chucky's Bride," but it's more of a strange coincidence. Otherwise, each film rolls according to the standard scheme: Chucky in the form of a doll somehow miraculously resurrected and returned to crumble another portion of live meat. Screenwriters sometimes try to explain his invulnerability and motives, but there is no desire to delve into it. Maybe in the eighties, the idea of instilling the soul of a killer in a doll and was something original and interesting, then after seven films, I want to scream that they calm down, stop making nonsense and in no case even think about restarting. This has been a long time coming.
I am surprised that the film was shown on the big screen at the London Film Festival. He belongs, if not in the trash, then at least on the shelf of discounted dvd-movies of some supermarket on a quick hand.
Yes, and the acting is worth a special “praise”. I got the impression that some were forced to say their lines, while hitting them so well with something heavy on the head. I didn’t like the movie either, just like everything else in the movie. No, seriously, who came up with a sex scene with a girl in a wheelchair right in her chair? It was disgusting.
I will not recommend this film to even the most loyal fans of Chucky. Yes, he is here, and not even alone, but you will not get any pleasure. Neither horror nor comedy is the movie. In general, it is not clear why and for whom it was filmed.
I would answer this question like this: there are both.
4 years after the murder of Nicky’s family, she went to a psychiatric hospital. Things were going well, she was slowly recovering, but happiness does not last forever. Chucky appears. He kills a few people and follows Nika. Chucky's laugh will never get out of my head.
Pros of the film (this is my personal opinion): the return of two characters from the original trilogy, several Chucky. And I think Chucky's better at this than Chucky's Curse. For me, making a few Chuckies is a good thing. I don’t know why, but I loved the idea and loved the old characters coming back.
Scenes of murder: here the scenes of murders, I would say, average.
But sometimes I get the feeling that this movie just hasn't been refined, like half of its story was just cut. Cut, that's all.
Play actors: especially liked the play of Fiona Durif and Jennifer Tilly, and the voice of Chucky. I also liked the actress who plays Madeline in this movie. I really liked her game. And I also liked the role of the actor played by a different person. I don’t know how to explain, in general, he was 2 when he met Nick in the hall.
Bottom line: The cult of Chucky may not be a good part of the franchise, but I loved it. But I can say with confidence that the cult of Chucky is better than the offspring of Chucky.
6.5 out of 10.
The beloved evil doll is coming back, but not in the way he would like!
The continuation of the legend about the revived doll turned out to be inconclusive, although the authors tried to logically link all the early events. It would just be interesting to see a picture of how this creature is caught and learn pieces of what it is. The authors did not invent anything new, and turning into a cult, they almost destroyed one single hero-villain of the picture, dissolving his essence among many similar Chucky.
Lots of inconsistencies. Well, illogical, too. Just this chapter is tightly tied to the past parts and, although it caused joy from the memories of past films, but there is a joint on the jamb. That goes for Jennifer Tilly, and all the magic that's become too much. It spoiled the picture. The previous part, The Curse of Chucky, was also mediocre and here, instead of adding the former fascinating component, they decided to press the viewer with the return of the heroes of past films. This is what killed the seventh part. Many mistakes were made, as if forgetting some details from the previous parts. Well, it was kind of boring. The film is short in time, but something lasted for a long time.
I love the Chucky series. Especially the original trilogy. There was some kind of magnetism in them that made you admire the events of the tapes. Although some people call them ' children' horror films, I do not agree with this. Still, quite a lot of murders have been shown, many quite cruel and bloody.
The film was directed by Don Mancini, director of the previous two parts of the franchise and writer of all films about the evil doll. Actually, you can call him ' father' Chucky. Overall, I was pleased with this director! He showed beautiful footage of murders, locations, effects with references to past films! And there were a lot of heroes – those we saw in the previous parts! You feel nostalgic! It is a pity that such effective effects have just led to nothing good.
I recommend it, but only to the most loyal and ardent fans of the series. In general, the series bends, like similar franchises born in the 80s. Thanks to Don Mancini for the whole series, but it’s time to finish. He tried in this chapter, but, alas, it is not the same.

You're like Hannibal Lector! It is a pity that the series was closed.
3 years have passed since the events of the last film. Nicky spends all this time in mental hospitals, poorly understanding where the reality is with the murders experienced, and where dreams are. But one day, a good psychologist transfers her to a new mental institution (where two doctors, two guards and three lunatics live) in the hope of a positive treatment process. But everything turns out exactly the opposite: the evil doll Chucky finds the heroine there, but does not rush to deal with her in cold blood. Instead, the plastic maniac invents a way to separate his own soul, which in the blink of an eye floods the hospital with “new Chucky dolls,” thus creating his own cult. And Nick Chuck is needed for something else.
It is surprising that the next part of the “meaningful restart” of the franchise about the ineradicable doll slowly but surely begins to return to its roots – a mixture of slasher and black humor. It is only pleasing that the delusional vulgarity of the “Descendants” remained behind and this creation did not touch. In all the rest of the film, although it turned out to be worse than “The Curse...”, but at least tried to keep the necessary bar.
But the trouble is that inventing more and more elements of the plot, Don Mancini (aka the “father” of this series) eventually jumped over his head. Yeah, split. Chucky is really a good move, and even to some extent explains the docking in the finale of the last film, plus gives a little fresh spirit to the series, but the trouble is that to unravel everything that happened in “Cult...” is quite difficult. So the movie is more than finished. I would call it the pilot of a long series, where a new line kicks off and leaves dozens of questions and speculation behind, making you look forward to the next movie. And then you start to wonder, "Will Don eventually be able to bring this all to a resolution?" Maybe. But something suggests that not soon or at all we will not see the finale of this story, because it makes sense to continue the series, but it is better not to – each subsequent sequel hammers the second nail in the coffin of the franchise (the first put “Descendance...”).
The second downside is Andy's line. Yes, it was nice to see the old character again, who went from being a shaggy boy to a bearded drunken militarist, spending all his time in the senseless torture of Chucky's revived head. But after watching everything to the end, you wonder: why? Why did we even show it? Does the scene with his appearance have any meaning? Is there an end to character development? Developing a difficult relationship with a puppet maniac? Nope. His line ends (or rather does not end) in the most stupid way. Don missed a lot here.
But in everything else, "Cult..." shows itself to be still a dark, somewhat interesting and intriguing slasher. There are murders, and there are enough of them, and Chucky tries to “improvise” every time: he throws shrapnel, then he will break through with a drill, then his throat will tear off, etc. Computer graphics have not gone anywhere, but at least it is better than before. Black humor is not enough, but also there, and the jokes turned out to be quite funny and quite appropriate. For example, the conversation “three Chuckies” (I tried to convey the meaning):
I'm going to kill Andy!
- (second) No, I want to kill Andy!
- (First) Hey, you sucked your breasts today! So I deserve it!
- (Third) Hey, look at my hair! I want to kill Andy!
- (first and second) Okay, you won...
Or when Chucky and Tiffany, after the phrase "Fuck the kids!" begin to laugh madly, involuntarily there is a reference to "Inheritance..." Not bad either.
The finale of this film is a kind of balm for a nostalgic fan. First, the completion of the line with Nicky turned into a kind of a vicious circle (where the series began, and that ended). Anyone who looks will understand. Secondly, I was very pleased with the appearance of another character in the series (the scene after the credits). Third, Jennifer Tilly is still pretty and crazy. All this is nice to brighten up the impression of viewing in general.
I would like to thank Fiona Durif for her double role. Looking at her was a real pleasure. It remains to be hoped that “Chucky’s daughter” will continue to star in horrors of medium and higher quality.
"The Cult of Chucky" - the seventh film in the difficult series about the evil doll Chucky, where innovations, although they give a "fresh stream", but still leave doubts about any completion of the long saga (and it must be completed). I want to hope for the best.
When in 2013, the last film from the horror franchise “Children’s Games” called “The Curse of Chucky” was released in the “direct-to-video” format, there were every reason to believe that the famous art series about a killer doll with the soul of maniac Charles Lee Ray came to the final finale. The franchise has survived six films, starting in 1988, and has earned cult fame in certain circles. It seemed that it was time for a well-deserved rest, until someone, twenty years later, does not intend to revive the “Children’s Games”.
And no, it was not here, enlisting the support of the subsidiaries of the studio “Universal Pictures”, the ideological inspirer of new films of the franchise, Don Mancini, attached to it since the very first film, being then a co-writer, and subsequently took the post of chief director (since 2004, that is, from the fifth film, called “Chucky’s offspring”), prolonged his favorite horror. And in 2017, the audience got the opportunity to trace the continuation of the story about a mystical toy that loves to kill people.
And if we talk about “The Cult of Chucky”, then this film is a perfect confirmation of the expression that one must be able to stop in time. Don Mancini, apparently, did not know this folk wisdom and thus darkened all the brightest hopes of fans of the franchise. Mancini and before that movies about Chucky turned into a kind of thrash with an abundance of black humor, thereby covering a large number of victims of the main antagonist. But in "Chucky's Cult," even black humor choked. There was one single moment shedding hope that the franchise raised its head when the main character, who is in a psychiatric hospital, read the bloody inscription "Not so fast." Somewhere even jittery sniffed, because the doll came back and wants to kill! But as soon as hope appeared, so instantly and vanished.
In fact, there is a suspicion that Don Mancini was influenced by “Island of the Damned” and “Abode of the Damned” when writing the script for “The Cult of Chucky”, since all the action takes place in a hospital for the insane, but this influence cannot be called favorable, because everything in the film looks like a cheap farce. Just think that the antihero of the film finds a voodoo spell on the Internet! Honestly, this is some kind of childish babble and believe in such a case could be a person for whom the expanses of the world “web” are a mystery under seven locks and he believes everything that is written there and that you can find anything in it. And such small, but very noticeable flaws in the plot abound.
Even the appearance of the sexy Jennifer Tilly with her subtle seductive voice does not save the film. The actress, of course, amazing and original, but it was time to quit the role in “Children’s games”, because even her heroine began to frankly annoy with its artificiality and uniformity. But still not as much as the increased number of killer dolls. It felt like this storyline was a parody of the legend of the Horcruxes of Voldemort.
A few Chuckies (or Chucks, as you like), a large amount of blood and murders, saturation of the storyline with mysticism with the transfer of souls – all this does not save the film “Cult of Chucky”. Don Mancini is making movies worse and worse and it's time for him to stop. Let the mystical toy “Good guy” with the soul of a serial killer remain in the memories of fans of the franchise as nostalgia for the 80-90s of the last century. Black humor farce, unfortunately, has already outlived itself, unless someone in a couple of decades will take up its remake.

P.S. The franchise lasted almost 30 years! It's respectable, no matter what.
I do not understand the negative comments about the film. There is a black horror comedy with elements of thrash. To me, this is the style that most goes to the franchise. The classic trilogy does not stand out much, except, of course, the charismatic antagonist, wonderfully voiced by Durif. Do you want to watch a movie about a killer doll as pure horror? Really? The idea itself is thrash by definition. And the transition from the 4th part to the comedy plane is perceived quite naturally. Unless “Chucky’s Curse” brings some dissonance with the notorious seriousness, but even there it is not maintained to the end.
In "Cult" Mancini from the heart of both the whole series and the slashers as such. It's pretty amazing.
To sum up, if you want atmospheric creeping horrors, watch something like "A Dark Song," "We Go On," or "The VVitch: A New-England Folktale." Want meat with a serious face, revisit Rob Zombie's "Saw" or "Halloween." And if you have nothing against a cheerful thrashnyak, like “Axe” or “Piranium” – this film you will like. Comedy over horror prevails here. For me, this is the best part of the franchise.
Nicka Pierce spent 4 years in the hospital. She is convinced that she is responsible for the death of the family, not the Chucky doll. When the attending physician offers a new therapy option with a doll with a good face, people begin to die in the hospital, and Nika begins to think that her nightmares are real. Andy Barclay has grown up and is in a hurry to help, but he wants to prevent Tiffany – the bride of Chucky, ready to do anything to help her beloved.
Plot. Nicka Pierce spends her time in a mental hospital, but her life changes again when a Chucky doll appears in the hospital. The action takes place slowly and protracted, occasionally pampering the viewer with Nicky's nightmares. The film is completely lacking bright colors and new ideas, everything goes according to a well-worn pattern, someone sends a box with a doll and murders begin in a quiet place. But fortunately, a completely worn-out plot is saved (pull) by your favorite actors from the franchise 'Children's Games'.
I am delighted to be back with Alex Vincent, who played Andy Barclay again, and he has grown up and looked really good. Charming Jennifer Tilly, again returned to the role of the faithful friend Chucky. Christine Alice cameo from the second part of the film, she again played Kyle named sister Andy. Fiona Durif played the lead role in the film again, and I liked her fighting spirit with which she approached the film. And finally, Brad Durif, without whom it is difficult to imagine the entire franchise, again gave his voice to Chucky. In general, the whole company of actors played brightly and sparkly, but without suppressing the other characters of the film, patients and hospital doctors who were able to show their talent.
The atmosphere, despite the gloomy colors of the picture, is not quite oppressive and terrible, so the film can hardly be called horrors. But devoid of humor and jokes, the film does not pull on a black comedy, in general, a good continuation of the famous franchise.
Of the obvious flaws, I didn’t like the ending of the film, which was incomprehensible and completely unconventional for Chucky and his girlfriend. I think we're going to have another sequel.
Verdict, ' The Cult of Chucky' a good sequel to the reboot, but at the same time I think Don Mancini needs new ideas, otherwise this film may be the last one about the story of Chucky.

After the massacre in a country house, Nick embarks on a fascinating journey through the courtroom to a closed psychiatric hospital. It turns out not so - it was just to convince the jury of his innocence, blaming the long-suffering doll for everything. After passing through the fire and water of the supervisory board, and the personal search of the chief psychiatrist, Nick is redirected to a hospital with a milder climate, with respect to patients and with a more benevolent attitude towards them. Here, in this sterile snow-white nest, electroconvulsive therapy is being replaced by soothing conversations and hypnosis, which in itself is a win for a guilty girl in a wheelchair. The new abode is more like a sanatorium for rich bourgeois, is a pretentious hospital in pleasant sterile snow-white tones of corridors, bedrooms, and a pretentious psychiatrist's office, in the best traditions of the same psychiatric hospital, where very soon it is simply necessary, something with a bloody hue will happen. Snow white is ideal for becoming fresh spilt scarlet. In such places usually likes to come resembling a small coffin, a parcel, with the best friend and friend for all the hopelessly ill.
The cult changes the rules of the game, now Chucky becomes a truly all-powerful puppet. The corridors of the hospital are filled with horror and sighs of sorrow for their sick soul and life. A mocking killer in the body of a wine doll begins to exterminate the guests of this sanatorium for the mentally ill. The psychiatric hospital is a good place for a new chapter of children's games, here you can admire the variety of tools, there are all the necessary, and dear to the heart of the killer attributes for bloody games. And long tangled corridors can help and escape and lead straight into the soft rubber legs of the children's best friend. And it is much more difficult to survive here than in a country house at a family dinner, because in the hospital no one defends your rightness about a living doll except yourself, and the staff looks at these statements, to put it mildly, from a very positive point of view. And do not forget about the rest of the inhabitants of the house for the mentally ill, they too are full of variety, and their opinions on the revived dolls they have similarly. In a word, the next continuation is full of innovations and excellent camera work, the white tones of the hospital walls and snow of the fields around the hospital instill thoughts of a mourning nature, everything immediately boils down to winter rest, afterlife. A calm, peaceful place that is waiting for a shake-up from a new batch of evil games of the bloody Charles Lee Ray, the new part does not sin with family quarrels, on the contrary, everything goes to action immediately, Chucky is eager to start and he carefully builds the moves begins. Taking advantage of the position and atmosphere of the place where Nika was imprisoned. Local Dr. Freud seems happy to help, but he is interested in the problems of the third kind, and the welfare of the guests of his holiday home, not the rumors about the revived doll. In the first place still would put not the actions of Charles and still his sparkling humor, which no matter how twist, pushes the juicy blood to the background. Black curses and humors of Charles Lee Ray is a separate song, humor characterized by the presence of black wit about his craft, and the barbs that Chucky accompanies his bloody path are not inferior to the previous parts, and even favorably differ in innovation. In this part, there are enough jokes and hamstrings to the staff, before and long before the death, by the authorship of the revived doll. Jokes can make you laugh and smile, coupled with fresh blood spilled by the victim. However, unfortunately, some jokes Chucky and takes, murders, they are enough, bloody but served without sparkling and rushing in an instant, there is no tense atmosphere of malevolence dolls that took away life, now Charles is bent like on a black stand-up show. And that's kind of killing the atmosphere.
The cult will not make you bored and pleasantly surprise with the camera angles and acting of Fiona Durif and company, Fiona’s father is still inimitable in the part of the image of the voice of the immortal doll, and still charismatic in the performance of her character. But in the rest of the film pulls just on the ordinary horror and nothing more, the usual story about a lonely hospital in the wilderness, where, as it should be according to the script, a killer doll, and now he is forced to act. I liked the film because of the camera work and black humor, because they very smoothed out the long viewing. For the rest of the snow and the black humor of the hospital, Chucky's story could have been a big cross. The lack of ideas is very strong, and it is not always able to positively influence the character. In the case of this sequel, it was not bad, but very interesting, visual perception and interesting, the effects as if added, but extremely sparse because of the sagging atmosphere.
The action of the seventh part of the franchise about the doll-killer Chucky takes place after the main character of the previous film Nick Pearce spent four years in a mental hospital. The girl is convinced that she is to blame for the death of her family, and not some doll named Chucky. The film is a completely incomprehensible mixture of genres and the director seems to be confused which film he is shooting: a black comedy or a horror film. Don Mancini constantly plays with the genre of his films. If “Chucky’s Bride” and “Chucky’s Inheritance” can be called a black comedy, “Chucky’s Curse” a horror film, then “Chucky’s Cult” is not clear what. The director does not want to explain where the dolls came from and who they are. Towards the end of the film, you hope to get all the answers, but instead of the answers, you get more questions. The logic of the characters is incomprehensible: a doctor who, as a treatment for a girl who survived a massacre in the house with a killer doll, gives her this doll. And dolls who don't know what they want. The film does not explain who these dolls are or whose souls are in them. Andy's motives are also unclear, it seems he has already gone mad with this doll and Chucky - the curse of his life has become his closest "friend." The ending, as always, hints at a continuation. Such a film can save not the budget or special effects, but only a good script. The previous film was very underrated. The Curse of Chucky is the best in the series. The film is only for fans of Chucky, but it will disappoint them.
(About the 51st minute of the film)
The cult of Chucky
Thank you very much, but we will not join such clubs!
Guys, everybody, I can't take this anymore. Mancini finally got it. I never thought I'd write a negative review of Chucky. Legendary killer, great maniac, one hundred percent cult. I used to be...
The movie destroys all the good that was associated with the name Chucky. I didn’t understand, but most importantly, I don’t want to understand. Extremely stupid shit. Not even Alex Vincent (the boy from the first parts) saves him.
The movie continues the previous film. Nika's going crazy. Logically, Chucky should leave with Tiffany and go to hell. Love, big forms Jennifer Tilly. Chal Chal Meri Chan Chal Zara (Indian Freddy Kruger) Yeah? No, because the director did not care about sex and bloody love.
Instead, Mancini begins to clone Chucky. You know? Clone Chucky, clone Chucky, clone Chucky again. As Dr. Cox of The Clinic said, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Stop it, stop it, Chucky, Chucky needs to get out.
As it turned out, it was very easy to do, f-mine. So much for the great Dambala! I am well aware of the indisputable fact that in cinema there are no good seventh parts, but it would be better not to shoot at all. Shame on you.
The picture is cool, I don't argue. That's just the murders and the graphon - the full finish. Chucky's phrases are getting annoying. Durifa's daughter doesn't pull the whole thing out. There's no Durif. There's only Tilly, my beauty is a girl. Jennifer is a goddess. It is a pity that she plays in such depressing nonsense.
The ending hints at a continuation. Please don't. Let's just leave Chucky alone. He will soon be 30 years old (in 2018). Or let him shoot a very good director. I don't want to watch Mancini movies. Three movies, stop making, man!
The Cult of Chucky is the death of a nice kid, no excuses. It was awful, boring, pathetic, delusional, etc. Forget about Chucky's fight with Andy. Here is the middle finger of a person who loves this (let’s face it – not the worst) franchise.
There was a riot on Twitter, my movie was stolen, my movie was stolen. They let this heresy out early! Yeah, it's really worth it. Take it and take it away, I allow, it is not necessary for free.
P.S.
Z always treated Chucky well (the fifth part regretted at the time), maybe I am not objective, maybe I overstepped the stick, just very much infuriates when your favorite characters are buried deep in a hole.
4 out of 10
That’s the moment when we can say that another popular franchise of the 80-90s has died completely and irrevocably. One of the creators of the once excellent "Children's Game", Don Mancini, the man who created an unforgettable image of Chucky, successfully developing the series in the later stages and until the last trying to save her life, now she has destroyed. While watching “The Cult of Chucky”, I clearly caught myself thinking that either a person is just exhausted, or he is already physically unable to maintain it in the state in which it was originally. Yes, it's a hell of a movie, yes, it's a completely different time and the old rules don't work, yes, the ideas are not rubbery. But the film does not justify it at all. Mancini built a beautiful house of cards - and that part just blew it away. The cards have been severely crumpled and it is highly unlikely that anything useful can now come out of them. We need a new deck, that is, to develop history from the beginning, for there is no other way. Tlen.
The plot of the past parts seems to continue. What Mancini laid down initially, he did not intend to surrender. At first glance, I even liked it: in the era of endless collection of money from popular horror films, in the era of constant remakes, restarts and prequels, a possible sequel looked fresher. So to say, there were at least some echoes of the 80s, at least a little bit of that atmosphere, a little of those emotions and tearful nostalgia and everything that attracted us in those cool horror films before. Is that in the movie? Nope! Throughout the film, I felt a strong sense of disgust at this project, a project that means so much to me. Except that the beginning of the film was very good - here you and the old friend, and the same black humor doll. The beginning gave me hope that it might still be good. And all this lasted until the moment when the inscription "Cult of Chucky" appeared. Then came confusion mixed with schizophrenia. I don’t know what the director’s plans were, but something went wrong. Or just as he intended, and that makes it worse. It's a good idea to move the action to a psychiatric hospital - at least two other '80s franchises approve. But compared to how it was there, and how it is here, it is heaven and earth. Remember Nancy who went to the hospital to help children with sleep disorders? Or Kirsty, who went to the hospital because of that Pinhead box? I remember it all perfectly well. I watched it for a long time, but I still remember how amazing, stressful and unforgettable it was. There's nothing in "Cult" even close to that! Some repulsive doctor-perverts, absolutely inadequate staff behavior and total contempt for local patients. Who's sympathetic? Unless Andy, the hero of the previous parts, but he was quickly shifted to the background. And the film gives us a glimpse of a grown-up disabled girl from "Chucky's Inheritance." But it's certainly not even close to the so-called "final girl." Charisma, charm -- she doesn't have that. Yes, in comparison with other “characters” it did not cause disgust — but what kind of film is it, if it makes a pile of tar to look for at least a spoonful of honey and still rejoice if you find it? In my opinion, the main advantages should be on the surface; if you have to carefully look for or choose anything good against the background of the rest of obscurantism, this is a clear sign that the film is bad. There is nothing to catch here if you want. Like a parody thrash, he might have come in. Add a lot of toilet humor, funny blacks and weed - and here's the ready Very Scary Movie 6. But to pass it off as the same "Children's game" is a crime.
And yes, the plot of Mancini continued, but at the same time did not show anything interesting - moreover, he created plot holes that will be oh how difficult to patch. Given the old age of the director, given how slowly the development of modern horror films from the old series is now progressing, we will not get answers to them. If only Don prepares a receiver to whom he will tell his further vision and ask to finish the story with dignity. But I strongly doubt that, it is unlikely that such a happy ending is being prepared for fans. In my opinion, the gunpowder in his gunpowderboxes has really run out, and he himself became entangled in his plots. Is he going to take away what he has done? Or did I take the money, and then somehow without me? It is very sad if he does not care about his creation. I really hope I'm wrong.
Thanks for having Chucky. This funny dude is the only thing that gets the movie any points. This doll still likes black humor, beautiful murders, and in general just to play with the victim in cat and mouse. I was rooting for Chuck the way I thought I should be rooting for positive characters. From the beginning of the film, I hoped he would survive and this time he would not be sewn. That’s what I understand as a great villain – you’ll never forget that. To create such a cool image - it still had to try. Thank you that Mancini once gave it to the world - probably Charles remained the last thing Don was not ashamed to try.
It is difficult to put such a low estimate, it would seem, such a native and beloved creation. But now the fashion, my friends, is to roll down what was once lifted by overwork and effort. And especially when the same person who lifted it rolls, this person should understand perfectly well what it is like for those who have known this story since the first film. Seeing what happened to this series just hurts. Poor Chucky didn't deserve that. Exclusively out of respect for the classics and the hope that Mancini will be chased from his post as director and screenwriter,
4.0 out of 10
Don Mancini may not have left a significant mark on cinema to this day, but he is the one who created Chucky, the legendary maniac doll. Even though the little killer is tightly registered in the register of the most popular horror characters, still, as a rule, Chucky did not leave the shadows of his more influential colleagues in the workshop like Freddy Krueger. In the 80s and 90s, slasher sequels were baked like cakes, so Children's Games got two not the highest-quality sequels and, it seemed, everyone safely forgot about Chucky. Until 1998, when “Chucky’s Bride” was released, where there were already two toy maniacs, and the plot dived, rather, towards black comedy. In 2004, Chucky’s Inheritance felt like a presumptuous attempt to rekindle interest in the franchise, and in the end, it’s not surprising that the film failed, and 2013’s The Curse of Chucky still looked overly speculative and cheap. All this cinematic biography of the most famous scary doll before the appearance of Annabelle leads to the “Cult of Chucky”, another film in the line of horrors of Don Mancini. At the same time, modern attempts to exhume a franchise are based on predictable models of “returning to the roots” or “ignoring bad sequels.” The Cult of Chucky, on the contrary, tries to comply with the logic of the series, which will soon turn 30 years old. This certainly marks the film, but raises the question: who was the film made for? For loyal fans? The franchise about Chucky is a niche not only in Russia, but also in the United States, and people who first met the evil doll & #39; in the 80s or 90s, should have long ago come out of the age when such films deliver genuine pleasure.
The main storyline continues "Chucky's Curse" and the story of Nicky, who is confined to a wheelchair. The girl is locked up after the events of "The Curse" and Nicky is moved to a psychiatric clinic. A psychotherapist finds nothing better than to bring a whole collection of wide-eyed red dolls for his patients to use in treatment. In addition, the story returns Andy, who survived the first projects of the early 90s, and the girlfriend of Chucky from “The Bride”. All this looks like a vinaigrette - so much is mixed in "Cult" that a casual viewer, unfamiliar with all the intricacies of the plot of previous films or not fully aware of the relationship between the characters, may consider the script completely insane. Perceiving “Cult” as a kind of crossover between all the films or, at worst, the final part of the franchise, where all the questions will be answered, also does not work. The script raises new questions, there are just hundreds of plot holes, and all this is inexcusable for something frankly easy from a semantic point of view.
The Cult of Chucky is fading on a low budget. There are several creative murders here, but for 2017 it is somehow secondary - it may come out to surprise them, but definitely not to scare them. From a visual point of view, everything is a little better. “Cult” is filmed in pale white colors, emphasizing the isolation of the crazy house, and Chucky’s bright clothes and dismemberment stand out against a sterile background.
Of the strengths can be noted the acting family Durif on the screen. Brad Durif clearly had a great time as Chucky. And despite the budget, the schedule was tightened this time. Fiona Durif, let's just say, revealed her sinister character traits. She probably got a lot from her father.
Thus, "Cult of Chucky" - a dry hour and a half homemade slasher, focused only on fans of the series. And for those same fans, "Cult" is filled with self-evident satire, acknowledging how silly it still looks. Paraphrasing the famous quote from the “Big Lebowski” (“The Dude is true to himself”), we can state that in this creation of Don Mancini there is nothing new – Chucky is still true to himself.

When I first saw the news that another, seventh installment in the Children’s Games horror film series was coming, I was glad that the previous installment was not even bad. Then it became known that the hero of the trilogy "Children's Games" - Alex Vincent will return to the film, which pleased me even more. And so, the film was leaked online (which is why Don Mancini was bombing on Twitter) and disappointed me.
For starters, Don Mancini promised us all the explanations for the previous films, which we didn’t see in the new film. He promised us “A very scary movie”, but we saw a boring massacre.
There are no characters in this movie. To worry about the main characters most likely will not be, sympathy for them did not arise at all. Why would you add Andy Barkley to this movie? In this film, it’s a completely unnecessary character, and the appearance of Kyle’s character at the end was predictable. Chucky's army is completely bullshit. What was Don Mancini under when he wrote this? How can this be done in 2017?
This is already a full assembly line, it was necessary to stop at Children's Games 3. And now it would be possible to remove a not bad remake.
In general, the result is: The film is not boring and not scary. Don’t waste your time watching this movie. Better go review the original trilogy "Children's Games"
Another novelty from the director, who has twice been involved in this franchise. As an ardent fan of Chucky, director and screenwriter Don Mancini once again tried to revive the former interest in the famous evil doll with a sneaky grin. The bloody events of the film this time unfold in a psychiatric clinic, where the main character gets. Once a victim of a killer doll in the past, the girl tries to forget about the terrible events, but Chucky himself does not forget his “friends” and soon visits his old friend.
When watching the film, I immediately want to warn you that you should not expect much, because the style and entourage of this picture emotionally reflects the spirit of past films, when the franchise has already entered the stream. Standard visual plans and the familiar manner of injection of action moments look, of course, stylish, intimidating, but at the same time quite secondary. It felt like I was watching a movie from the nineties, only with a very good modern picture. Of course, this film is not able to scare the viewer much, but still watching the adventures of the bloodthirsty doll was interesting. I would especially like to note the director’s pleasant desire not to delve into the continuous computer special effects. In many bloody moments, mannequins and dolls were used, as was the case in old movies, when the computer had not yet taken over the entire film industry.
In general, if you are a fan of this franchise and are part of the cult of Chucky, then I ask you to the screens. And do not forget that after the credits you will have a small continuation, so do not rush to turn off the TV.
Have a good time.
As a huge fan of the Chucky Killer Doll franchise, I was thrilled to hear the news of the sequel. The creator of the franchise, Don Mancini, promised to take into account all the mistakes of the most unsuccessful film in the franchise “Chucky’s descendants”, compared his new film with large-scale projects like “Inception” by Christopher Nolan, promised us the bloodiest part of the franchise with elements of a psychological thriller and promised us to explain the confusing ending of the previous film.
In the end, what did we get? I will try to explain in detail my vision of this film.
In my opinion, “The Cult of Chucky” came out much weaker than the previous film “Chucky’s Curse”, which was a really pleasant surprise for fans of the red-haired doll, and in general the classic horror. As a low-budget video film, “Chucky’s Curse” had a very interesting, thoughtful plot saturated with the atmosphere of the original first two and most successful parts of “Children’s Games”. Fans of the franchise thanked Don Mancini for this film and hoped that he would reanimate his brainchild, returning to him the spirit and atmosphere of the original. Constant rumors about the film, posting on the Internet all sorts of shots from the shooting, intriguing promises of the director encouraged to watch this film. We all know and love this little redhead, don’t we? And we are really interested to see his new adventures, hear his mind-blowing laughter, quality black humor or vice versa tense atmosphere of the original films. Each of us expected something different from this film - scary Chucky or funny, but I am sure that everyone needed an exciting, thoughtful and interesting film. Personally, I, seeing the initial trailer, expected to see a decent bloody slasher, nothing more, in the end my expectations were not met.
To begin with, the storyline of the film is very delusional. Mancini made a whole mess and got himself confused in his intricacies. Why put Andy Barkley from the original Children's Games and Jennifer Tilly from Chucky's Bride, Chucky's Descendants in one movie? These are completely different films, which in my opinion should not be interrelated. Why tie a black comedy and a horror movie together? Why link "Chucky's Inheritance" and "Children's Plays," which are as different as heaven and earth in relation to each other? What did Don Mancini want to show us here? Your love for the franchise? If it is so (and most likely it is), we are not particularly interested, because you want to see a sane, interesting, thoughtful continuation of the legendary doll-killer, and not just admiring it through a new film.
Watching “The Cult of Chucky” one gets the impression that the franchise has exhausted itself. All the chips (Chucky's middle finger, licking Tiffany's knife and slitting the policeman's throat, repeat phrases from the previous parts) are already quite tired. I want something new, original. It’s like the fifth part of the “Ice Age”, where a restless squirrel is still trying to catch its acorn – initially it was fun to watch, but the monotonous feature copied in each subsequent part eventually became very boring and even annoying.
I wanted to see the confrontation of Chucky with Andy Barkley, with the other heroes of the previous parts, in the end we will not see any of this. There is no action, intrigue in this film. There is no one to worry about the main characters.
The image of Nicky performed by Fiona Durif in this film is less worked out than in the “Curse of Chucky”, I did not have any sympathy for this hero.
Jennifer Tilly, playing Tiffany, was overplaying and annoying with her presence. Being no longer at a young age, she tries to play the beauty of “Chucky’s Bride”, shot almost 20 years ago. And Tilly looks really good for her years, but her game seemed to me somehow unconvincing and fake. In “Chucky’s Bride”, she fit into the image of Charles Lee Ray’s girlfriend much more hornily.
The murders in the film are spectacular, but, due to the small budget, do not look as impressive as from the same “Bride of Chucky”. Saving on bloodthirsty scenes, well, there is no way. In the end, I wouldn’t say that The Cult of Chucky was the bloodiest movie in the series. “Chucky’s Descendant” and “Chucky’s Bride” clearly win in this regard.
A lot of questions leaves after watching this film, while he did not normally reveal the ending of the previous picture. What happened to the girl Ellis? How did Andy shoot Chucky? How did Tiffany find Nick? Questions of the same kind are just a bunch, the answers to which we will not get.
Don Mancini is trying to play psychologist and it's not working out well. This psychology and general plot sensuality of “Cult of Chucky” is very similar to the sequel to the remake of “Halloween” by Rob Zombie, where Michael Myers walks without a mask and sees a white horse with his mother. Here Chucky appears in different images and even quantities, and the cheap budget is very striking. I didn’t see any similarities with Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
The image of Chucky, unlike the wretched “Chucky’s descendants”, is not spoiled here and looks even more convincing (alive without scars) than in “The Curse”. At least no masturbation, vulgarity on his part I did not see, perhaps the only advantage of this picture.
After the success of The Curse of Chucky, Mancini apparently decided to continue inserting the previous characters in the franchise from the early parts, only if Andy Barkley at the end of The Curse was really nice to see, here the same posttiter scene does not cause any emotions, because it is completely similar.
The plot of the film came out somehow crumpled, poorly thought out, intricate. Mancini had better shoot an ordinary slasher, where Chucky simply kills patients and employees of a psychiatric clinic in a sophisticated way. Simple and, as they say, tasteful. No Jennifer Tilly, no schizophrenic visions of the main character, etc.
As a result. "Cult of Chucky" came out absolutely not terrible, incomprehensible for the average viewer movie. Fans of the killer doll can find something interesting in this picture, for example, the image of the classic Chucky, whose facial expressions are much better worked out here than in the previous film. Otherwise, this is a rather cheap, strange and not particularly successful continuation of the legendary killer of the late 80s. A little better than “Chucky’s descendants”, but worse than the rest of the parts.
