If you want to plunge into the world of Paris and love, then you are here.
Initially, the review began due to a large number of reviews and recommendations. I didn’t expect anything fantastic or exciting from the series.
BUT
The series has fascinated me since the first series. 10 episodes flew for one hour, watched in a day and was very sad when I realized that there is no information about the second season.
What is the series about?
You can't describe it in one word. But definitely Paris, wine, kissing, flirting, fashion and relationships. Relationships between colleagues, friends, lovers and lovers.
I was inspired by fashion, the main character, in which I saw a reflection of myself. Much can be taken from the heroine: her behavior with men, her optimism, even when everything goes wrong, her ease, her style.
I can't tell you how excited I am!
Caught myself thinking, which is a lot like 'The Devil Wears Prada'. The same boss, fashionable, beautiful, with gloss, but not happy in love. And a young, bright girl who dreams of Paris.
Everything has worked out for me and I will be looking forward to the second season.
And then I suddenly got stuck. Who would think, like, everything is banal, and according to a template, however... Somehow it’s all fresh and looks really good.
Darren Star knows what his target audience wants. Again, when you think of Beverly Hills and Melrose, who would have thought it would be super hits. No one thought. But these series are a whole era.
I don't know yet if 'Emily in Paris' (I want to write Amelie) will be a super hit. But here's a lot I liked. Good timing, not too long, fun. There are really cool scenes where it’s funny. I didn't expect that. The picture is very good. It was really shot in Paris! I even recognized some of the places I went. Real houses, real street cafes are shown, real French people are filmed in the series. I mean, there's a lot of cliches, but there's a lot of real stuff. Because the pavilions and green screens are sickening.
In terms of visuals, I also want to mention costumes, rooms, and how social networks are played. It shows how many likes in the inst, how many ' pieces ' subscraibers. I don’t know, I guess this technique has figured out somewhere, but it’s very appropriate, and it adds to the dynamism. It’s part of the story, which I really liked.
My sister lived in Paris for a year, she was also suddenly offered a job, and she rushed into the unknown. She recommended the show to me. And she says that there are a lot of very precise details in the series that ordinary people don’t see. Like old houses where floorboards creak, there are no elevators and everything is heard. And the old wiring with the old shower. It's very realistic. And the snouts that the French turn when you twist their tongue. And chic Frenchmen. I've only been a week, but knowing where to look, I can agree with a lot of things. So the picture is a treat for the eyes.
And men, yes, I still remember French men, even though I was just a tourist. For the first time in my life, I’ve looked at men. I've never seen them in my life, but there's a lot to see in Paris, if you're in the central districts, not in the suburbs, where there are a lot of immigrants. There’s something about French men, I don’t know how to describe it. Some of them are well-groomed and mysterious. The curls are laid, the beard is shaved and groomed, the suit is fitted properly. What are the men's costume departments in Paris? You can choose everything. I dream to go there with my husband, but so far everything has hung in the air, alas.
What didn't you like? Yeah, a lot of banalism and debauchery. The heroine in 10 episodes replaced three men. She has a lot of fashionable clothes and is new every time. I mean, either she's a tycoon, or she's got a very high PP. But that doesn’t stop you from watching movies. About vulgarity. Let’s face it, kids and teenagers don’t have to watch this. And they don't seem to show anything like that, but they hint at, well, once a naked woman from behind was shown, and then the genitals are covered everywhere. But still, the shooting is very close to 'Sex and City'. That's not what the series is about.
By the way, I want to note the delicate trolling of the French over the heroine. There is a lot of trolling, and it hints that real French people also worked on the script. Perhaps, if there had not been so much debauchery (forgive me, aunt of Soviet hardening), it would, of course, be better.
If you need a story to publish a review, then in a nutshell - a heroine from Chicago, she was offered a job in marketing in Paris. She went without knowing the language or culture. It brings a new dimension to French marketing. And in general, I even find it very realistic. Many say that Americans know a lot about PR. And they do it better than the Europeans. In general, the heroine makes up all sorts of things to attract customers, and she is great at it. Shepherd appreciates it on the one hand, and hates it on the other. In general, there is a conflict, and it seems realistic to me too.
The series revolves around the heroine, her environment, her work, her social networks. At first, I didn’t like the actress very much, but I watched 10 episodes, and, in general, she was good. And it looks relevant. We have half of Odessa (I am from Odessa) make themselves the same eyebrows as her (as they became fashionable). Even the teeth have begun to align, and look no worse than American glamorous chicks. Except that such a gorgeous wardrobe not everyone will allow themselves. Of course, not everyone has a style.
In general, despite the fact that I don’t watch much movies and TV shows (the last two years I haven’t seen a single series at all), and I’m not a fan of Netflix, but the series is good. I watched all 9 episodes in one breath a day. I believe that the series was a success, and the creators tried their best for their target audience. I don't know what happens next. I would have watched the second season.
PS Unfortunately, I have only found the voiced Russian version. Of course, you need to look in the original. Our backup actors are twisting French worse than Americans.
I liked it. Ten tiny series watched in one day, laughed from the heart in some moments, but, here, there was no one to worry about.
The plot is simple: an American comes to work in Paris, not knowing the language and European culture. She is full of optimism and wants to enter 'an alien monastery with its own charter' to force freedom-loving, enjoying the life of the French, to work according to the corporate rules of Americans going to success. In my opinion, it was the first three episodes that were the most fun when poor Emily, accustomed to planning and putting everything in containers, is faced with a completely different approach to work and life. All of her new French colleagues, starting from the boss, are very colorful and funny. I do not know why the French were offended by what they were presented in the series, it seems to me that, here, the Americans should rather be offended, because they are ridiculed by the authors, broadcasting through the main character all that you can mock them. Surprising politeness, constant smile at the top of his mouth, obsession with control, inability to enjoy the moment and embark on adventures with his eyes closed.
I read that many criticized the images of Emily, considering the work of the stylists of the series a failure. I do not doubt, some bows on the miniature Lily Collins really look like a cow saddle, but do not forget that Emily herself in one of the series openly admits her mediocrity and drags from the main characters of the series ' Gossip Girl' and, is it not like to wear all the best at once, turning into a mixture of Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen, but without the gloss and luxury inherent in girls from the upper East Side? In my opinion, this makes the heroine much closer to the viewer, she is just like us, just in Paris.
There is no point in criticizing Emily for her outspoken Mary Cushness, after all, such characters are created to make us believe in something good, believe in our abilities and dreams. Emily Cooper, as the same ' Happy End' in American cinema, which seems to the French terribly implausible.
The picture in the series is beautiful, those who are in love with Paris (like me, for example) should like it. The city shines with lights, pleasant music sounds in the background, champagne sparkles, Emily walks around in the frame in a bright beret. Beautiful!
I really hope that the series will be extended for a second season and we will see, in the end, the development of the love line, which finally rocked only in the finale.
If you want to spend an evening without strain, laugh and for a few hours plunge into the romantic atmosphere of Paris - choose the adventures of Emily Cooper.
The Devil still wears Prada, only on Netflix and in Paris. Stars from the sky are not enough, the usual romcom about the cheerful heroine, her office work and the head (in our case) of a tyrant (samodoo?), whose respect for some reason must be deserved. There is also a hot guy next door, who has feelings in heroin and a girlfriend, a Chinese pop star on the run. I watched the whole season when I was sick. If the temperature is 38 and the head does not understand, it is necessary. In his right mind, I would hardly advise anyone.
The series, of course, is light, beautiful and entertaining, but with a lot of outdated clichés and stereotypes and not only in relation to the French and Paris, but also in relation to love, sex, men and women, as well as employers and workers, and intercultural differences in relations between nations and countries.
It is no surprise that the main character was brought out by a kind of positive and cute girl with a lot of interesting ideas and innovations - of course, she is American. But the French are retarded and old-fashioned with strange views on relationships, work and sex. Sometimes emphasized grotesqueness helps to reveal the main motives of what the director wanted to convey, but still not in such quantities. Although, I must admit that some stereotypes really hit the top ten. For example, the reluctance of the French to speak English, dislike of foreigners, their endless manner of teaching how to speak French correctly, as well as the desire to stay in the comfort zone and not leave it under any circumstances. However, the French view of love and sex is not true. The French are interested in love, not simple sex, and the feelings that are associated with love relationships. They are quite relaxed, but not to the extent depicted in the film. For example, no Frenchwoman would put up with the fact that her husband is intriguing or having an affair with another woman, much less incite her husband to such affairs. A threesome does not mean a threesome in France or the approval of betrayal.
No better than the stereotypes about women presented in the series. For some reason, heroines dress like prostitutes and there is nothing stylish in their outfits. In general, the series gives a lot of themes presented in the series of the same director Sex and the City. The main character, Emily, although from a different age category, behaves very much like the heroines of Sex in the big city. In general, the series can be watched, but not taken seriously, and, moreover, take at face value the way the French are represented in it (note: the opinion about the French is based on personal experience of six years living in the French environment).
The plot is banal and simple: American Emily, due to some accidents, goes on the biggest adventure of her life - a distant and mysterious Paris. One caveat: she travels for a year and knows only a few phrases in French. She has stereotypical ideas about Paris, but this does not prevent her from admiring a new city for her.
Emily works for one of the most famous luxury marketing agencies in Paris. Colleagues shun her: she's too open, friendly (' You're too American!) That's how it works!' and it's very, very, very burning to work. For the local French, it is like a hurricane, which is about to sweep away the established comfortable order.
But gradually, Emily finds friends, wins the sympathy of colleagues and brings the agency new contracts.
One of the writers of the series is Darren Star, who is known for working on Sex and the City & #39; and Beverly Hills 90210 & #39. So yes, it’s a little fantasized that 'Emily in Paris' is a series about a young and more open contemporary Kerry Bradshaw. But times have changed: if Kerry found herself close to the bohemian world and boutiques, because through her work she was a public person. It's easier in the 21st century. You start Instagram, come up with creative posts and become an influencer. I note that the heroine several times repeats that she has a master’s degree (that is, we are not just a girl in brand clothes, but a smart young lady who was sent to France for a reason) and she works in Paris, not having fun.
'Sex in BG' and 'Gossip Girl' loved not only because they reflected the trends of society, but also for the outfits of the characters. And after watching them for at least 20 minutes, many went to Google the price of tickets to New York, which was another important participant in all the actions. 'Emily in Paris' does not claim the laurels of these series (he is more superficial and optimistic), but he is just as stylish and atmospheric thanks to the shots of Paris. I have no doubt that soon we will see inspiring selections 'Dress like Emily', 'Places where the series was shot' etc. By the way, the costumes worked the same man who dressed and the heroine 'Sex in BG'.
There is no need to expect anything profound from the film: it is a good positive entertainment series with a predictable plot. It can be seen after work or under cross-stitching. Each episode lasts 27-30 minutes, so before you have time to look back, how you watched everything.
I know that the French did not like the series: they were too stereotypical there. On the other hand, I think that the Americans themselves see the French this way and there is nothing wrong with that. This is just a series with a beautiful visual picture.
The main character is impressed by the fact that she finds a way out of any situation and always smiles, while the French can reflect for a long time. Emily treats everyone kindly.
The only thing that confuses me is the fact that the heroine’s pain is easy and smooth – it does not happen (the same series 'Piarista'). It is also about working in the public sphere, but diametrically opposite. And the plot itself is very predictable. The open finale was left for decency, but this is already initially a fairy tale about Cinderella and it is clear that there will not be any strong bright drama.
To watch - to laugh - to spend 30 minutes without problems - to want to go to Paris - to forget the plot.
But the review is still with a plus sign: I have long wanted to see just such a series: with a stylish heroine, in a beautiful atmosphere.
When you wait for the release of a new series, when this series from Netflix, when screenwriter Darren Star and fashionable themes, and get a children's series with a strong feeling that we are traveling in the style of films 2013-2014.
Darren Star is the father and creator of the brilliant Sex in BG, gives out a similarity and a sub-series that plunges all fans who have been waiting for a new breath of inspiration with fashion, love and friendship into a deep sleep.
Maybe the whole story was spoiled by the leading actress - Lily Collins - no matter how much I watched (accidentally) her work, her face is flat everywhere, she cries, she laughs, she is sad and indignant, and her face froze in one expression. Kamon, even the outfits so carefully chosen for the series on it look like a bunch of junk. Speaking of costumes, wanting to support the success of the fashion theme, the notorious Patricia Field worked on the series, from whom, so much was expected of her extravaganza of colors, style, taste and another portion of sticky bows. But something went wrong again. The Paris chic of the main character was embodied in clichéd Chanel jackets, berets, sea strip, etc. Are you serious? She ran all 10 episodes in heels, 2020 in the yard. Plus the style of the Parisian caste is some kind of madness, sur and mockery. The situation was saved by the fact that I watched all the episodes in the original on Netflix at once, because waiting for voiceovers and trying to see something in each upcoming series would spoil the impression even more.
Bottom line, you want fashion, outfits and friendship, go back to Sex, you want a really inspiring story about the girl who did it, Girlboss. I hope they don’t extend it for a second season. Netflix, darling, don't let it!
This series ... in his approximately five hours of timekeeping, he managed to hit, it seems, all my pain points.
Don’t get me wrong, Netflix has good and even good projects of its own, which, you know, are easy and laid-back stories about the pressing. And 'Emily from Paris' promised to be such a project. Easy. And at ease.
This series is trivial. I'll think of five more projects like this. The main character moves, well, comes to Paris for a long time. Okay.
It's only in Paris that fucking stories start to happen.
How many stereotypes do you know about the French? So if you've forgotten any of them, don't be afraid, 'Emily in Paris' will remind you of all of them. Seriously, stereotypes about Europeans, stereotypes about Asians, stereotypes about stereotypes - all in one bottle. And the series tries to balance the whole thing with jokes about Americans and other laughers. But I don't know which sounds worse. Okay, I'm not the judge of humor, I'm also a bad joke.
But this series has other problems. Literally every ' plot twist' we can predict even before we are told that there will be some plot twist. I wanted to see a casual project, not a stupid one. I swear at one point it seemed like I was watching a very cheap Mexican drama. Characters are generally a unique pit. The main character, she is attractive. And so veiled is Mary Sue that you can at first unconsciously mistake her for a simple person. Her friends seem to be alive... but no, still cardboard. And the other minor characters also walk on the worn paths. And every time she meets someone and it seems that the person is not bad, but then there are unknown events and we have a completely different homosapient! Maybe that's how they wanted to show that first impressions are deceptive. But why fool the audience? I always felt like an idiot or mentally ill. For example, one of the third-rate heroes, not only opened from another side, he completely changed, up to the manner of speech (until I wrote I realized that there are even two). This predictability doesn't amuse you. In any case, it seemed to me that the situations were not caricatured, but simply poorly written.
I have no right to say that my opinion is the ultimate truth. Maybe someone will find the series fun. However, the above problems prevented me from digesting it normally.
It was annoying sometimes, but the worst part was that I was very bored. Any work, it seems, should cause some emotions inside you. And when you're bored, that's the worst insult to any job.
It's a shame because there's an interesting concept here. Not to say brilliant, but really interesting. There are beautiful pictures. There is a placement product Apple... which is also delicious. The actors are good. . .
See if you want to score time (at the same time tighten both English and French). But if you are the same irritable porcupine, then you better pass by, beautiful Lily Collins is not worth it.
1 out of 10
One of the most romantic cities has never been so fun. I am a small fan of romcoms, but for that I am a very big fan of Lily Colins, and my love for her once again proved itself.
The plot is simple, an American PR girl moves to Paris to promote local brands on the world wide web, but the city does not accept her with open arms. Colleagues, like Parisians, perceive everything American as something wild and uncivilized and the very idea of promoting something on the Internet seems crazy to them. But the main character is not discouraged and every time proves that you can win hearts without even speaking the same language.
A wonderful light and funny series of 10 episodes of 20 minutes that will take you to one of the most beautiful cities in the world where you will spend time with one of the most beautiful actresses.
And a wonderful bonus to all this is my favorite general from Taxi, played by Jean-Christopher Bouvet, who appears in a new, but no less fun way.
I'm in love with Paris, but Paris doesn't seem to love me.
A young American woman receives an offer to engage in marketing development in the Paris office of a partner firm. She does not know French, culture and customs of the locals, superficially familiar with the world of fashion and does not know anyone in the city, but she is hardworking, friendly, and absolutely in love with Paris.
"Emily in Paris" is a light melodrama about a young girl who struggles to find her place in a city that immediately fell in love with her heart. Here she will try hard to please her colleagues and try to make them think American, strive to find a common language with everyone, enjoy the views of France and French cuisine, look for friends, and perhaps even love.
Lily Collins is delightfully charming in the title role, and the rest of the cast perfectly plays a variety of who are funny, who are harsh, and attractive and not, but extremely charming characters. The plot as a whole is simple - it's life, work and love vicissitudes of the main character in a new workplace in a foreign city for her. The closest analogue here, perhaps, will be “The Devil Wears Prada” or the little-known series “In the style of Jane”, but this is a genre that, if you find the right atmosphere and style, allows you to glue the viewer to the screen. And the show is rich.
“Emily in Paris” is almost a five-hour advertisement for France, which will allow you to relax in the evening and mentally stroll through the sunny streets of Paris with a cup of coffee, eating a croissant. Each episode of the series is filled with delightful views of France and the most famous French melodies, and each frame is filled with colors and style (so you want to grab a beautiful dress, skirt, or one of Emily’s berets). And everything around is so glossy, beautiful and bright, as from a souvenir card, but it should be so to allow the viewer to relax and plunge into a French-American fairy tale.
As you can see, I liked the series, so let’s move on to the pluses:
1. The image of the main character, here I want to include both makeup and the choice of things. I think the stylists have worked for fame and it is such images that I want to wear in Paris.
2. Acting work. Here all play well and after all, not the most famous actors play flawlessly, and sometimes even eclipse the main character.
Cons:
1. Plot. Although in most works the dominant position is occupied by history itself, here, in my opinion, it is hardly too original.
2. The final picture and hints for continuation. Netflix, as you know, likes to make sequels literally out of everything. I’d like the story to be 10 ~25 minutes long and end there, I don’t think Season 2 is appropriate because we can interpret the ending differently. The beauty of cinematography, for me, is that by digging up more and more different clues, we can open up the story from a new side. Although in another case, if the audience is not satisfied with the end, Netflix can go along and make a sequel. . .
Neutral:
Cinematography. Some new angles are still not noticeable and in some places everything is filmed more than "sterile", but the views of the city and the passage of the main character impressed me. Yes, here you will not be shown the experiences of the characters through camera decisions and you will not feel that you are in different roles, watching first one and then another character, and maybe even someone from around the corner. This picture does not feel personal, yet it is shot from a textbook.
As a result,
I can say that this series is not deprived of clichés and with an ambiguous end (well, it can not please everyone) – GOOD, Paris is still beautiful to the chills and acting is still very good.
This picture can entertain a beautiful Friday evening, giving a storm of emotions and I definitely recommend it for viewing!
