I don’t write about the film as a film critic. I care about what it is. And she is in it with 1,000 hits in what is happening now on Earth.
The fact that the authorities are mistaken and come up with terrible solutions for problems that they do not have time to investigate.
And the fact that people do not believe in higher powers, the boy shows that. After all, each Soul has its own plans for this life and someone can come to survive any apocalypse.
The Earth is stunningly shown, she stopped joking, she just chose herself at last and removes the stupid greedy humanity from its surface.
It's interesting that we people look at this movie as just another show. It benefits us. There is no need to change anything.
And it is necessary to change, and start with yourself and the simplest - to lift a wrapper in the forest and hand it over for recycling. Not to mention a huge machine in the form of states and corporations, which does not even look at the real threat of the termination of human life on Earth due to environmental damage. Greed and fear rule the ball. . .
P.S. did not say anything about the actors, they perfectly showed the whole palette of emotions of people over the fear of death, before the unknown. The cast played perfectly. The film is not a comedy or black humor. This is an attempt to make people think about life on Earth as a whole, about what contribution I personally make to the continuation of the human race.
Before you go to the next world, you need to find out the relationship with friends and your spouses, preferably with a glass of champagne.
So, the beginning of the film is rather sticky, as if there is nothing hidden behind the holiday, but everything is more complicated. Guests are going to the house for their last Christmas. You can say with the holiday, they go to their death.
Why you need to be so stoic about it, the script doesn’t tell us, it’s just that these families decided to come to friends for Christmas to gather at the big table. By the way, it will not work to eat enough before death, for some reason it turned out to bake only one potato per person. There are plenty of goodies in the back, though. Not the point. I will not give away the rest of the secrets of the film.
But along the way, we learn what the news says about the impending cloud, after which no one survives. What should all these wonderful (or not so) people do in a warm, friendly circle? Of course, kill yourself with a pill, which the state distributed in packs. Well, well, what a concern. . .
Suppose that is how people behave, they come to celebrate Christmas, not forgetting the time of meeting with a poisonous storm. In that case, who said everyone should take that stupid pill? After all, you can find a more original way to die, or wait for this hurricane or cloud without any deadly poisons.
That's a paradox. From this follows the assumption that we are satire, I would not even be afraid to say "satire" humor, with which it is not clear where to laugh. It’s like a director’s show – here’s how I can!
Suppose... And in this case, all the characters of the film cause exclusively negative attitude. Sorry for the pun like that puked pill.
I'll just say it. Michael Haneke's debut film The Seventh Continent may not be as dynamic, but it raises serious questions about the meaning of existence, about comfort and prosperity, etc. This film is not intended to make the viewer think thoroughly. I'd say something like "Don't look up" only shown on one Christmas table.
Silent Night is a pretentious satire that wants to be an improved version of Perfect Strangers with an unpredictable ending. A powerful cast with Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Annabelle Wallis and other notorious actors attracts attention and gives hope for a deep picture that will definitely allow gray matter to get food for thought. The desire to combine drama and tragedy is inherent in a variety of paintings, and “Silent Night” is no exception, replenishing the list of “Armageddian”, conditional “Coutis” and “Do not look up.” There is a message in the tape, and it differs greatly from the crazy positives of ordinary tragicomedy.
“Silent Night” is a good, eventless film that is enjoyed by fans of the classic recipe for the unity of place, time and action; which does not pretend to be anything masterpiece, because the script is simple, and the final twist is too predictable, but at the same time tells a simple story for an hour and a half about classmates who, after many years, were able to find something new in each other and share it with each other in the face of a deadly threat. The main meaning conveyed in the finale – the most unlikely outcome is the most likely – is refuted a thousand times by life and hardly carries any value, but in general, the film is worth watching at least once. It seems that he really is present in Silent Night, and adults are not so positive heroes, but excessive faith in young people in this tape also does not seem logically justified. In general, there is an inevitability in this story, a meeting of a “poisoner”, as one of the reviewers put it, some warmth, sincerity, even friends who sometimes speak sharply about each other, love their company – and this is perhaps the key irony of the tape, where a loving person is ready to kill his love, as long as it does not outlive him for an extra minute. This is love in the face of the apocalypse.

There are not enough stars from the sky, but you have to think about who you would like to meet your end, and in general for your genre is an extremely promising representative.
I wanted to write about this movie as soon as it came out, but I didn’t find the time. Now, frankly, the film would have looked completely different, although it’s only been six months. Why is that? Because this is a film of its time, and a relatively short time span.
Silent Night is an acutely social (in some places even political) satire. I was deeply convinced that this film was created by a team of English anti-vaxxers, oppositionists and rebels. But there’s one “piquant” feature: The film was shot in 2020, that is, before all the hysteria with vaccination, so “Silent Night” different countries watched from different angles. There's a deeper view of the film - the whole world has to destroy itself; we're responsible for what comes after us, etc., but all those meanings are lost because the film came out when it came out. Temporary relevance drowned out the eternal motives.
A large English family gathers at home to celebrate Christmas and die. These are plans for themselves, and some are really confused, although others are absolutely determined: it is necessary, because the government said so, and it knows how best. What will come out of this battle - see for yourself, otherwise you can not do without spoilers. In any case, we see that without a clear political background, the film did not do. We see a society divided into “for”, “against”, “doubtful”. Isn’t that a good example of what happened last year?
It is noteworthy that almost nothing is known about the director of the film. Yes, she is the mother of the famous young actor Roman Griffin Davis, who is remembered for the film Jojo Rabbit. In Silent Night, he certainly appeared, as did his two brothers. In mid-zero, director Camille Griffin made several short films known in very narrow circles, after which her career seemed to end. But suddenly, quite unexpectedly, she wanted to speak out, and she did so, despite scant experience, quite tolerably.
Having independently written the script for the film, Camille began to cooperate with not the most successful producers. Among them - Celine Rattray ("Dirt"; "Still Alice"), Trudy Styler (produced the most notable films in the late 90s - early 00s - "Cards, money, two barrels", "Big jackpot"), Famous producer - Matthew Vaughn. On his account and trilogy "Kingsman", and biopic "Rocketman". There were also failed projects (Fantastic Four, Bloodshot).
In total, the film has 14 producers of different levels. It's normal. Especially strange that the film had a very weak advertising campaign and limited release.
The film did not have any complex camera decisions, so the film was shot not by the most famous cameraman, who has only one serious job behind him - in the series "Darrells". The composer of the film is controversial – he managed to collect a significant number of failed premieres in his career – “Black Widow”, “Death Zone”, “Gemini”, “Pacific Rim 2”, well, let’s not judge him, here there are at least no claims to his work. Editing was done by Pia di Chaula, who previously specialized in TV series. The most famous work is The Crown. Her colleague – Martin Walsh – had work and more serious – “Giant”, “V” means Vendetta, “Chicago”, “Cinderella”, “Prince of Persia”.
If you look at the team as a whole, it is not weak. She's rather mediocre.
The film traveled the world, but the fees turned out to be quite meager - "Silent Night" did not collect a million dollars. Weak marketing can be added to the fact that people who are tired of the eternal negativity, especially in the difficult 20s, read the description and decided to choose another film. And they can be understood. I was attracted to that description. But the film was not as deep and interesting as I had hoped. Despite the strong acting - unfortunately, only children and adolescents, despite the inherent morality of the film does not fulfill its main task - we do not sympathize with the characters. At all. We're not interested. We are introduced to them very superficially, which makes it feel like we are watching the latest episode of a long series. Immediately involuntarily recalls the feature film “Downton Abbey”, which was shot exclusively for those who watched the series. This suggests that the creation of images of heroes worked, of course, a little weak.
I won’t say anything bad or good about actors, because the only character I remember is Art’s child. It is in his mouth that truth is put, if you follow the saying, or common sense, to be more precise. It is he who is the brightest hero, standing out from all the gray mass that I do not remember. Even the actress with a capital letter – Keira Knightley – is lost in it. Maybe that was the idea. Oh, of course, do not forget that the director is the mother of Roman Griffin Davis, who played Art, and she may even unwittingly (a joke – obviously intentionally), will focus the viewer’s attention on her child. What is Keira Knightley like?
Despite the obvious disadvantages, the big plus of the film is courage. Not every director can afford to put the socio-political issue as the leitmotif of his creation.
An important plus is a variety of behavior patterns in a critical situation - despite the cardboard heroes, it is interesting to watch how each of them reacts to imminent death in a few hours - someone panics, someone has made a decision and is ready, someone is hysterical, and someone is just tired of everything. This diversity has personally pleased me. It allows you to learn a little more about the characters and their motivations.
Not a plus or a minus, but a general fact: do not believe the stated genre. Silent Night is not a comedy. It was so named for what reason and it is unclear for what purpose. Because of this, the film attracted the wrong audience. Personally, I was sure that I was going to a black comedy, they rarely come out, so they are valuable, in the end I came to a social and family drama with a political charge, because of which I had to dramatically rebuild my idea of the film, not to be disappointed at all. And this drama will not cause much sadness, but it will try - where without this in the film about the end of the world?
Now it is difficult to make a film that will be inscribed in the history of world cinema. If you take Quiet Night out of history, the foundations won’t collapse, and nobody will notice. Therefore, unfortunately, the film goes into oblivion, which its heroes are waiting for. If a more serious team had worked on the film, perhaps it would have gone down in history as a high-quality, multi-level parable. And so – the rating of KinoPoisk – 6.3 (at the time of writing), 5.7 from IMDb. Even critics didn’t take it very warmly – the average score was 6.2. If I have overpowered myself, I will bet for the effort.
7 out of 10
On the KP and IMDB this film has a catastrophic rating and I hesitated to start watching. Still, for a clever treshak, which I love, the rating is not low enough and too famous actors were filmed in it. And yet I did. I didn't regret it. The plot is quite simple and a bit ridiculous. The Earth decided to sweep humanity into the trash and poison everyone with some kind of gas. And people - directly British, and quite wealthy - do not want to die in torture and voluntarily take some pills to "die with dignity." And to spend the last night with pleasure, a company of old friends gathers in a country estate with their children and is already here amused by scandals in anticipation of the apocalypse.
In fact, it is a real vinaigrette, an eclectic mix of genres. This, apparently, repels viewers who provided the film with a low rating. People love either pure genre or art where genre is not important at all. Here mixed and caustic satire on modern morals, and grotesque comedy in the style of Hollywood plays, where all the bile pours out in rapid dialogue. But, since the film is not Hollywood, but British, the well-fed viewer (including me) lacks some gloss, elegance, everything here is somehow rough and not polished. Plus a hint of the apocalypse, but stupid and inconclusive, which serves only as a pretext for events in the house. Friendly gatherings at the Christmas table an hour before the end of the world are very reminiscent of the pre-final scene from the film “Do not look up”, where the characters also spend their last minutes in common company, in anticipation of imminent death. And suddenly, by the end, the film turns into a tough and piercing drama and even reaches certain philosophical heights (or depths), although they do not fully realize them. But the right strings in the soul touch.
It’s one of those movies where you stay with these people for a while. Aftertaste movie. And that's an indication that it worked.
'Hello to the family!', 'Melancholia', 'Looking for a friend at the end of the world', 'Crumpus' in one bottle. . .
Released in early autumn 2021 in the international rental of the picture ' Quiet Night' became the debut in the artistic full meter as a director for Camille Griffin, who also wrote the script for her. And for its premiere, Griffin chose a rather complex and mixed genre, which, if succinctly, can be reduced to the term ' pre-apocalyptic drama', but it is likely that each viewer will single out the main genres that are in the canvas ' Quiet Night'. The main roles in the film were played by Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Lucy Punch, Matthew Goode and the eldest son of Camille Griffin - Roman Griffin Davis, whom everyone learned after the release of the atypical military drama Taika Waititi & #39; Jojo Rabbit' (2019). But, of course, the main star ' Quiet Night' is Keira Knightley. In general, beloved by many Kira recently does not appear in blockbusters, picking up interesting roles in various docudramas such as ' Colette' (2018), ' Dangerous Secrets' (2019) and 'Miss Bad Behavior' (2020).
In ' Quiet Night' Knightley's heroine is a woman named Nell. She is the wife of Simon (Good) and the mother of three sons (all played by Camille Griffin). All action ' Quiet Night' develops into Christmas Eve, when Nell and Simon are waiting to visit several close friends for a joint celebration. And conditionally ' Quiet Night' can be divided into three parts. And the first resembles a trivial Christmas family comedy with elements of melodrama, where the characters instead of fun gradually begin to clarify the relationship between themselves, spilling out the accumulated grievances, but in the finale there is a mandatory reconciliation and everyone is happy. Something like a movie 'Hello to the family!' (2005). But the first part ' Quiet Night' is annoying. And most of all, this feeling arises from the behavior of children who allow themselves to swear in the presence of adults. Of course, we know that the modern upbringing of children abroad gives them unlimited freedom, but what we see in ' Quiet Night' is a clear overkill.
And the heroine Annabelle Wallis, who does not let the glass out of her hands, behaves in a very defiant way, as if she is trying to start a spark, after which a flame will break out and everyone will begin to express personal discontents accumulated in the past towards others. And then it kind of makes sense to have that nervous state that's evident in Nell and Simon's behavior and words. But who could have known that together entertaining 'Hello family' we will get something similar to fantasy horror 'Crumpus' (2015). Because the true causes of the strange and defiant behavior of almost everyone who came on the eve of the holiday are revealed. It turns out that tomorrow will not come for them - a cloud of poisonous gas is approaching Britain, which will destroy all life. Therefore, everyone allowed themselves to do whatever they wanted, and therefore the children were allowed to swear, so in stress Annabelle Wallis allows herself to get drunk, and everyone else around is noticeably nervous. And here we pay tribute to Camille Griffin, who thought out and implemented such an unexpected plot twist-explanation.
And in the second part ' Quiet Night' there is already a feeling of compassion for these people, because it is even scary to think what is on their minds now and what efforts are needed to maintain at least external calm. And you already forgive the children their unbridled behavior, and Wallis is ready to pour himself, and the rest want to embrace. In the details of the third part ' Quiet Night' I will not go into that spoilers were not, but I will say that there will be several scenes that cause shock. And with such a complex structure of the film was quite difficult for the actors, but they tried. Keira Knightley plays with a peculiar sophistication, but there is no famous fervent shine in her eyes, but this was required by her role, if you understand what situation she was in. Lucy Punch, as is often the case, took on the duties of a slightly exuberant lady with a sarcastic temperament, which is where there are references to the genre of comedy, but, of course, comedy is sad. Lily-Rose Depp liked his touching character, who is sorry almost all. Annabelle Wallis has been mentioned several times. But Matthew Goode hardly remembered anything.
And yet the debut film of Camille Griffin did not pass without roughness. As a loving mother, she concentrated a lot on the hero of Roman Griffin Davis, as if the viewer had to see everything through the eyes of this boy, but she did not succeed. There are also certain problems with dialogue, which were often deprived of the proper depth of dramaturgy and were very banal. And the pre-apocalyptic atmosphere in the native British hermetic atmosphere is largely supported by the actors. By the way, if you remember that Keira Knightley has already played in something similar - in the film ' Looking for a friend at the end of the world' (2011), but what different images she created. In general, ' Silent Night' an uneven film with its advantages and its misses, but as for the debut, everything is not so bad, so the assessment of the first work of Camille Griffin:
If you decide to watch this movie, just after reading the description, I advise you to look at the trailer to have at least some idea of what awaits you. It’s NOT a horror movie, so be prepared for the fact that saying “everyone is going to die” doesn’t mean that a large family will be torn apart by some maniac on Christmas night.
This movie is one of those that you need to know a little more about than a synopsis before you turn it on. You know, the same thing happened with Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, when some viewers would say, "You know, I'm disappointed at all - Quentin's not that kind of game, not history." And at the same time, the audience did not even realize that the film presents its version of the murder of Sharon Tate. “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Silent Night.”
The synopsis doesn’t really bode well and you know something dark is going to happen in the movie. And that's actually what happens. To a large family (dad, mother and three children) come their friends – they have not seen each other for a long time and decided to spend Christmas together. An old company that used to hang out at school or college. By the way, the story tells only superficially, so to understand who has to succeed only with time. How to understand the meaning of the film.
This day and this evening, as well as the whole night, promises to be very difficult, as all the characters in the film know how it will end. And that, in my opinion, is the main highlight of Silent Night. But more on that later.
The film is based on the plot of Camille Griffin (she also directed the picture) and is a drama with elements of black comedy. It is difficult to call the film a tragicomedy, given the events described in the end and some episodes that become shocking to individual characters. But the drama with a touch of black comedy, and even seasoned with sai-fi – why not.
The picture involves a magnificent cast - always stately and mannered Matthew Goode, who personally I liked since the time of "Guardians", here also remains true to himself and attracts attention with his own endurance, equanimity and steel nerves even when you need to go for a roundabout time for a can of "Cola". Keira Knightley is always - Keira Knightley (the only thing that now the actress' face has become more rounded in shape and this did not really affect her facial expressions, since when she makes any grimaces and portrays feelings, she moans scary), as well as Roman Griffin Davis (you know him from "Jojo Rabbit"), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (I liked her in "Why Women Kill"), Annabel Wallis and Lucy Punch (in this film she turned out to be very scary - Kirby).
By the way, the characters in the film - their qualities, their behavior and their characters are selected very successfully. In the context of the upcoming event, it is interesting to watch the frank mattress in the person of Rufus Jones (it seems that he is just able to take the step that many are ready to take just because it is easier and faster), or for the sustained and persistent character of Hood or for the hero Sope Diris, who is a sample of Brutal and macho. This also applies to the female part of the cast, because there are those who regret that they are here and not in another place, there are those who are on the verge of collapse and are struggling, and there are those who are ready for what they did not dare for many years. . .
The plot of the film as a whole is built on dialogues between the characters and events will only occasionally go beyond the walls of the country house, where everyone came to celebrate Christmas. Interior shooting turned out to be beautiful mainly due to the fact that the interior design turned out to be moderately expressive, concise and catchy. Beautiful wallpaper and furniture, a spiral staircase and a festive spruce standing next to it, a chamber atmosphere that adds coziness due to not too brightly burning lamps and simple in everyday life, but a practical kitchen - everything looks harmonious.
The dialogue in the film expresses the general mood of the characters, who are clearly on edge because of what awaits everyone. Therefore, you should not be surprised by swearing words or sending each other away. Some people may not like it, but I personally “got it.” At least when it sounds twice or three times, Shut up, you! - No, shut up! It seems to me that the filmmakers thus enhance the effect of the conversation due to the frequent repetition of the same phrases, which once again emphasizes their emotional overexcitation. The black-media component of the film can be traced just in the dialogues and relationships of some characters, so if the film will make you smile, it is during conversations.
Well, the meaning of the picture is actually a great material for assessing certain situations when a person faces a certain choice. The dilemma that arises just on the occasion of the fact that you need to decide what to do, sharply outlines the moods of the characters, adding emotionality to the seemingly measured narrative of “celebration of one Christmas.”
The very idea that what happens on Christmas (the day Jesus was born) is a bit of a stunner, as the filmmakers play on a very unequal juxtaposition.
In the topic of decision-making and conscious choice, you can catch certain hints about the current situation in the world, when vaccination against COVID becomes a prerequisite for the continued existence of mankind. At least there are unspoken references to our realities and here too, “Silent Night” gives an opportunity to think.
Just as certain thoughts are prompted by the notorious and often played-out topic, when wealthy people can afford something, and poor people cannot. Well, very serious conversations of adults with their children on topics much more important than the first sex, and all bring the viewer to a state of shock. At least for me, it was difficult to imagine a conversation on this topic with a child. How can you make him accept such a harsh reality? How to say that what will happen is fate?
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Last year set the trend for films about the end of the world, but now it is not a large-scale, multimillion-dollar disaster films such as “The Day After Tomorrow”, “World War Z”, “2012”, but something more intimate, dramatic and personal, conveying all the pain of awareness and anticipation of the imminent tragedy of humanity on the example of a single family. Silent Night was no exception. The picture is maximally focused not on the very phenomenon of the apocalypse as such, but on the emotional component that accompanies it - people's feelings, feelings and experiences come to the fore. The film literally shows you how your last day can go if you are an ordinary person who is not going to save the Earth.
An English family of parents and three children gather friends at a family country estate to celebrate Christmas Eve. Everything is perfect, except for one thing: it’s everyone’s last Christmas. Unknown gas waves spread across the planet and mercilessly kills all living things. The picture pleases the eye with an abundance of familiar faces in the cast: the mother of the family and the hostess of the last banquet – Keira Knightley (“Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Pride and Prejudice”), her husband – Matthew Goode (“Match Point”, “Imitation Game”), among the guests of the party the notorious Lucy Punch (“Very Bad Teacher”, “Type of Cool Cops”), Annabelle Wallis (“The Curse of Annabel”, “The Loudest Voice”), Lilly Rose-Deppe (“The King of England”). It is noteworthy that the children of the hosts of the evening are played by real brothers (Roman Griffin Davis ("Jojo Rabbit"), twin brothers Hardy Griffin Davis and Gilby Griffin Davis).
Separately, we note the quality soundtracks for the film - this is a bright bouquet of emotions from seemingly ordinary life, unclosed gestalts, the "best" last party, grandiose alcoholic intoxication and anticipation of the upcoming end of the world.
The closer the evening, the more confused and incomprehensible the general mood of the assembled company. Each of the characters is focused on internal issues and standard human problems. But the main thing is that they will have to be solved against the background of the imminent tragedy. But what will come out of this and is it possible in such a movie happy ending, you will only know after watching the film.
6 out of 10.
A large family, in addition to snotty milksuckers, gather in a cozy country English estate to celebrate Christmas with their relatives. The festive atmosphere, overseas sweets and a warm idyll, if not for one "but" - all of them will soon die. . .
"Silent Night" is a gripping story with a brilliant cast about the impending apocalypse, and not only because the entire viewing feels the horror of an approaching and imminent death, but also thanks to the absurdity of everything happening. All the actors will soon die, they realize this and the most terrible thing took this information for granted, because carelessly entertain the hours allotted to them. And here comes into force the cruel satire of modernity - how much the state has a significant influence on the brains of people, methodically washing them from day to day. Moreover, the main characters are far from being subcamps or uneducated villagers, they are quite progressive, intelligent and erudite representatives of social society.
In part, you can call the picture chamber and dialogue, which is only good for her. The film begins in a comedic vein, but then transforms into a hybrid of a mixture of tragic drama and a horror idea that frightens with its realism, instilling existential fear. Most of the plot focuses on family relationships, their innermost secrets, revelations and multiple dialogues, which, however, are quite curious and perfectly entertaining, simultaneously explicitly or casually touching on topical topics.
Moral: there is no worse idea to celebrate the holiday with the whole codla of distant relatives - amusing fights, torn ears and broken noses are guaranteed.
In the end, a skillful genre experiment, causing a mixture of hope and despair, a bitter satire on our reality.
“Silent Night” is filmed on the popular theme of the apocalypse, but in the genre is not so much fiction as tragicomedy with a rather indistinct plot and with not the most pleasant characters. Funny episodes in the film a little, drama too - but a lot of verbal disassembly, profanity and all sorts of stamps characteristic of stories about the coming end of the world.
The film is the debut feature-length work of the little-known director Camille Griffin, which previously shot only short films. And here is the case when the first pancake in a big cinema, rather, came out in a lump.
The film has a solid cast, in which, first of all, you notice the presence of Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode. Special claims to the acting game when watching does not arise. Operator work is also quite at the level - the picture is bright, juicy, and where required - very gloomy and depressing. In some moments, a sensitive viewer can even squeeze a tear out of himself.
The paradox, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to empathize with the heroes of the film. And the director, apparently, was not too eager for this. Almost all the main characters of the picture (both adults and children) are rather repulsive characters who are more busy figuring out personal relationships, often in a very rude form, than trying to adequately spend the possible last hours of their lives.
On the other hand, if the negative features of the characters are deliberately introduced into the plot, and the film is a satire, it is not clear what the author primarily ridicules – family values and the life of the wealthy middle class, social inequality, the state, which turned out to be helpless in the face of danger, or the whole picture is a parody of films about the end of the world, and at the same time – the usual Christmas tales. After all, it is at the Christmas party that the heroes of the tape will meet.
In any case, the irony here is quite toothless, and the human tragedy, on the contrary, is felt extremely weakly.
Hence, it seems that the actors do not quite understand why their characters came together – either simply because it is “more fun together”, or out of fear of impending disaster, or to support friends and family members in a difficult moment. One way or another, it did not work out very well – as, indeed, with the apocalypse itself, which was caused either by environmental problems and the natural cataclysm that followed them, or by evil Russians. Although the latter in the film is more like a banter.
In the end, it is very difficult to name any good reasons for spending an hour and a half of your time on this film. The story turned out to be unfunny, not frightening and not the most original. Tickle your nerves here, most likely, will not work, and among the paintings about the apocalypse, as well as ridiculing the modern world order, you can find much more worthy.
I think many will agree that the films of catastrophes about the next threat of the destruction of mankind today no one was surprised. Throughout the history of cinema, a huge number of different films of the genre have been filmed and this topic seems to have long been explored back and forth. Nevertheless, the director of this film Camille Griffin and producer Matthew Vaughn managed to approach this topic from an extremely unexpected and interesting side.
The plot of this film develops around the spouses Nell and Simon, who invite close friends to visit to celebrate the Christmas holidays. However, a good pastime at a friendly dinner comes to an end when the real end of the world comes and all of them will soon end.
The script of this tape can be safely called at least unusual and curious. With the exception of a few quotes and verbal skirmishes, the authors of this tape to the last hide the main threat to the lives of the main characters and humanity in principle. Especially successfully achieving this by how cheerful, festive and relaxed is the atmosphere in the house and the relationship of the main characters. When the “maps open” only half an hour before the end of the picture and it is here that the true essence and message of this tape are revealed. Almost the first hour singing the concepts of friendship and family, as well as the spirit of the Christmas holidays, when at the same table and for a pleasant pastime gather the closest people to each other. However, it is in the last half an hour, turning all this into extremely unexpected and rather veiled reflections on the pandemic that has covered us since last year and numerous vaccines that, in the opinion of the authors of the picture, kill, not help (in other words).
If you discard all these thoughts about death and some gloom of the last half hour of the picture, then the director of this film Camille Griffin shot a very lamp, kind, warm, bright and in my opinion very funny film, which willingly recharges the festive mood and gives a lot of reason for laughing and smiling when watching. Very skillfully managing both the abundance of actors, each of whom gets a chance to reveal, and the limited locations of one small country cottage.
Definitely the main gem of this tape is an excellent cast in the person of Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Lily-Rose Depp, Annabelle Wallis, Lucy Punch and many others, each of which showed a great game. However, we can safely say that they all remained in the shadow of the young star of “JoJoJo Rabbit” Roman Griffin Davis, who, despite his young age, easily outplayed his more adult and experienced colleagues on the screen.

Silent Night is at least one of the most unusual and interesting doomsday movies I’ve ever seen. The authors of this tape shot a lamp, kind, warm, bright and in my opinion very funny film, which willingly recharges the festive mood and gives a lot of reason to laugh and smile when watching. Happily singing the concepts of friendship and family, as well as the spirit and essence of Christmas holidays. Only in the last half an hour, unexpectedly changing tone and delving into the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic and its “long-term” consequences.
A chic mansion on a hill surrounded by an ocean of trees, the family is in a hurry to meet guests, completing the last preparations: the mother checks the oven, the father throws through the fence of screaming chickens, the eldest son shinks carrots, watering it with blood from a cut finger, the twin brothers are driven into the bath, and friends are rolling along the backcountry to them, singing to Michael Bublé and his Christmas jumper, spreading from car speakers, marking the idity of the ritual action, which is equally repeated from year to year.
Breaking away from the fussing fuss, under the cheerful chords of Feliz Navidad in the original version of Jose Feliciano, the boy releases his favorite laying hens into the forest, because his grandmother said that it is better for a bird to become a prey of a fox than to die from an impending poisonous cloud that will cover their house next morning.
The soundtrack is not useless - it is a telling component of this story, exposing the deception and pretense of adults who skillfully pretend, pretend, silence and openly lie, covering the curvature of their souls with the right phrases, and the boy Art cannot stand their muddle, remaining in the general company the only one who is free in his decision.
Camille Griffin decided to interrupt her son’s simple, writing an uncomplicated script for the next apocalypse, having a phenomenal actor in her arms with a guaranteed shine in the solo part, where the star of “Jojo Rabbit” partnered with Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode.
An incriminating pamphlet with a brilliant table discussion of the protagonist about truth and rules, about self-deception and lies, about good manners that cover the unprincipledness of modern society, in which there is no place for people without TINs and SNILS, a society where hypocrisy overshadows insensitivity, where the rule is to seem, not to be, that the honest Art who cuts the truth does not hesitate to expressive capacity of obscene truths.
Undoubtedly, Camille took advantage of the arrival of a viral infection and the new planetary situation to highlight the moral flaws, inequality and injustice of existence, decisively taking the film away from the Christmas fun played by the guests to reflections on the imperfection of the world and humanity, which is opposed by an independent young man, not that he believes in the possibility of a miracle, but retains humanity, leaving everyone the wish to meet the happy dawn of a new Christmas.

For the list of actors involved in the film forces to pay close attention to this work. Keira Knightley is a super star! And this is far from a complete list. Perchit and salt author ' brew ' from the heart. Do not immediately understand, do not immediately understand and understand the subtleties of English humor. Ladies - as usual sting ' friend friend ' rivaling, slying, protruding ... and so on and so on (you need so much messed up in the souls). Cars rush to festive feast. From afar. And the beginning of this tape is like a return to the good detective of 1974 - ' Purely English Murder'. We look at faces, we listen to words, we draw information about characters, people from scraps of words, phrases, barbs. Is it really worth it to go? Shouldn't we turn back? Or maybe, well, it's to the lechem ' these vinaigrettes, these salads, potatoes, trousers'... and the hosts, along with the guests. But the move is made. And it's too late to retreat. Here and two chocolates to our attention - white and black practicing the same-sex charm of relationships hurried, and the topic of coke, the choice of priorities in life, sounds, and the delights of the table with scourging, and sexual & #39; cardage & #39; in memories with whom, when, where what was - it cost only a little to drink, and champagne bubbles - hit the head. . .

But, the movie and the movie to have unpredictability highlight. And the time has come for that. Having passed the middle of timekeeping, the afterburner is included in the British brainchild. It is so high that no clairvoyant can guess. A cold shower has the same effect. Rapid - a sense of surprise spontaneously opened mouth. Why all this? So nice and so beautifully splashed it 'swamp'...
Apparently, this is where the main flaw of the film lies. The pomposity of the first part - to applause. The second is sadness and sadness with hamar. Why was that wise? For what? It's too salty! It's totally overdone! Oh, come on, funny guys. . .
And yet, thanks to an optimistic start, I'll put a 7. Before the romantic comedy ' Four Weddings and a Funeral' the tape certainly does not reach, but it looks like a 1994 film, so it looks like. ..
