An unusual mystical thriller for fans of the genre In my opinion, it is much more difficult to make a good mystical movie than soulless template fiction with an abundance of expensive special effects (such as Transformers) or a box office action movie with a bunch of ostentatiously bad and good guys (such as The Expendables). Here we have a very original story. History, if you think carefully, can seem creepy and even frightening.
In a dream, everything falls into place.
Have you ever wondered about the nature of the things around us? When you wake up every morning, are you still in the same reality as yesterday, or have you been moved to another world in some unknown way? Where everything seems to be the same, but with small barely noticeable differences that can easily be missed. The plot is a story about a fisherman whose pregnant wife drowned in the sea and now her soul is desperately trying to find a loophole into our world to live, feel, exist. About the plot is worth saying separately, because it is unusual and predict in advance what will happen next, it is quite difficult.
Businessman Peter and his wife Eve from America moved to live on a tropical island. Drunkies, partying, dusty work, away from home, Eve seriously thinks about having a child. But things go awry when, one dark night, she hears the ominous, terrific screams, or maybe the cry of a mermaid? Sounds coming from the sea, remotely resembling a human voice. Going to the shore, Eve notices another woman in the water. Actually, the film is called “Some other woman”, which most accurately reflects its content than the rolling title “Impostor”.
"Am I still alive?"
It felt like “It follows” with Mikea Monroe or “Sea of Seduction” with Matthew McConaughey or even “Langoliers” by Stephen King. As you watch it, you can remember the Mandela effect, the fifty percent probability that we live in virtual reality, the subtle world that is not out there, far away, thousands of light years away, but right here, right next door. These messages are skillfully sewn into dialogue, very delicately, so as not to scare, everything is wrapped in a beautiful shell of a mystical story about a sailor and his drowned wife. There are no special effects in the film, and this is the rare case when they only spoil.
Amanda Crewe (previously I noticed in such unusual films as “Repeat reality”, “Age of Adalin”, “Others”) I initially did not like in the role of the main character, but gradually the actress began to give out lively emotions of fear, irritation, horror, demonstrating a strong immersion in her difficult role. Ashley Greene played a little bit worse, though maybe I thought so. 15 years after the acclaimed “Twilight” actress has not lost its natural beauty, it is in principle enough to sing the song playfully winking to leave a positive impression.
In my opinion, the filmmakers decided in vain at the very beginning to tell the story of a fisherman and his wife. I wouldn’t be the writer until the end, but then the film would be more difficult to understand. But if you wanted, it could be fun to play. “Impostor” is a definitely worthwhile film for connoisseurs of chilling plots, where everything is not what it seems.
