We have to stick together. Everything starts pretty well and calmly. The sons come for a time to their father, the mother and stepfather leave all three alone with each other, and then you can watch how the father is going to spend leisure time with his children.
He chooses as a pastime an occupation that, in his opinion, should make guys real men - shooting.
Judging by the behavior of the brothers, we can say with some certainty how each of them relates to the Pope. Obviously, the younger one is trying to make contact, whether it is agreeing to learn to shoot or just drink a beer and then proudly tell his older brother that his dad shared a sip of beer with him. The doubtful joy was of course, but it was obvious that the youngest thought it was either the attention of his father, or he just wanted to support him in something. So everything that seemed important to the younger son, the older son perceived calmly, at some point, even with a slight mockery.
Listening to his father’s words that the only important thing he had left in his life was his sons, I honestly sympathized with him even, but at the same time some suspicions about his behavior arose, when it turned out that it would not work out to be together and forever, as it seemed to be a bate, in the near future.
Yes, I could see how much my father cared and loved his children. And out of the icy water he pulled, and protected from uninvited guests. But it's also easy to see a dramatic change in his behavior, especially when there's the possibility that someone might take his guys away. Obsessive thoughts and paranoia, fear of being alone, all this turns a caring father into a crazy, obsessive and dangerous person even for his own children. It is a pity that this character was shown in such a way that he can only be considered suddenly out of his wits, and I, alas, had almost no sympathy for him. Or maybe I didn't experience it at all. After all, his story sounded glimpses, it was never revealed, maybe there was nothing to reveal, maybe the person lost his mind and came into a state of complete despair based only on his own character, quick temper, which was repeatedly shown to the viewer, and emotional instability. It was impossible to sympathize with this character. Here it is shown as they wanted to show it. A loving but paranoid and cruel father.
The actors played well, especially the smallest guy liked it. Made him kind, emotional, non-conflict. Anyway, it's fine here. But I would like the character of the father of the guys made more interesting, more detailed work than it turned out. Perhaps it would have given the film more dramatic atmosphere, which, frankly, was not enough, so it turned out more thriller, but the sons diluted it all so that their emotions are undeniably believed. But what is there is.
Cold, frozen winter shots, along with a curious plot and good actors give a fairly good thriller with elements of drama. I would like to be more specific about some of my father’s actions. Although, my version of his sudden outbursts of rage and paranoia is perhaps the most banal - he was afraid to be alone, afraid to lose his people. But, alas, it was not possible to sympathize with him, only brothers, and random guests in the hut still.
Atmospheric, somewhat realistic, in general, I liked it.
