Nine on the list of dead is an American thriller released in 2009. Directed by Chris Shadley.
The story follows nine strangers who are kidnapped by a masked man. He explains that he will kill each of them in turn in ten minutes while they learn the reason why the killer brought them together.
In general, this is a good thriller, in the style of “Cuba”, “Saws” and “Exam”. Yes, the film does not reach the level of these pictures. There were their joints and conventions, which can spoil the impression of viewing a little. But despite this, the film is interesting to watch, and I was able to enjoy it. And in general, the plot catches, intrigues and does not let go to the very credits.
The film was made qualitatively for its 2 million dollars. There was a good atmosphere. The actors are little known, but they play quite well. The movie looks pretty good.
The characters came out interesting, although some are not sufficiently revealed, such as Christian, who was killed first. Of the most memorable Persians, I can single out Coogan, Leon, Sally and Kelly.
Coogan is a pedophile and rapist who served time in several prisons. The character came out vile and repulsive, and all this compensates for the excellent acting of Lawrence Turner.
Leon is an illegal gun dealer who managed to get out and escape at first, but not for long. Quite charismatic and colorful character.
Sally is a strip club owner and moneylender. A wildly charismatic character. Chip Bent played a great role.
Kelly is the assistant district attorney for Los Angeles County. I won’t say much about it, as the character is revealed at the very end.
What about the killer? His motive came out interesting and understandable. John Terry played well.
Outcome: Nine on the list of dead - a good thriller, in the style of "Cuba", "Saws", and "Exam".

Neither before nor before the film clearly does not reach. But the survival movies are not the worst. Nine black cubs ... or rather, there was only one black, the rest — white and yellow ... gathered in the room, handcuffed to the posts ... They need to reflect on their sinful lives and remember how their sinful lives are interconnected. Every ten minutes, the organizer of the whole show enters the room with the question “So why are you here?” and kills one of them.
I note that the plot is not worked out, it is some kind of curve, ridiculous in places. In the finale, there are elements of drama, but nothing out of the ordinary. This is the "Nine Negroes" in the Darjedontsov Vision. Everything is so prosaic, naive, bland. I consider it superfluous to include in the plot a speed-bearing pedophile who managed to rape a twenty-year-old boy in prison, and an idealized priest. And how the Chinese did not guess to fasten the interpreter - I also do not understand. In general, a movie for one-time viewing.
Indoor thrillers are a genre I love. I’ve watched most of the movies on this subject and, to be honest, this genre in my eyes has already begun to fade in terms of morality, it is always the same, they say, many people are bad, think only of themselves and are ready to blame anyone for anything. In terms of atmosphere and other aspects, this genre can be said to be eternal.
So, what's this about? This film was almost the first in this genre for me. Since I first watched it, I have watched it five times. And he never ceases to impress me again and again.
The actors played well, at first the characters panic, think that this is some kind of prank, and then, gradually, realizing that everything is serious, they gather their thoughts and recall possible reasons why they could be here. In general, the plot and atmosphere are the best parts of this film in my opinion. The plot is twisted so that it is difficult to break away from the screen to the very titles. The atmosphere of what is happening also attracts attention. There are and will be people who will not like either the plot or the atmosphere. To be honest, I do not understand such people, although I can admit an alternative point of view if it does not come from a near-unicus.
So what's the bottom line? For me, this is a movie that can be watched endlessly. This is my movie classic. This is what detective thrillers should be. I highly recommend it.
Ever since James Wan created his famous Saw in 2004, a whole genre movement has emerged, where directors, having a meager budget, could create at first glance complex and intriguing thrillers. Indeed, what could be simpler, one room, multiple characters, limited time and intrigue. On this concept were created such films as: "The lot", "Exam", "Circle", etc. But one thing is for sure that Van was not surpassed, because it is difficult to create a second film that could tell something similar to Saw.
And so nine strangers ended up in one room handcuffed to a pipe. They don’t know each other and can’t understand why they’re in this room. But when a mysterious kidnapper issues an ultimatum, they must answer the question of why they are hostages, if they do not answer, one of them will be killed every ten minutes. What is the secret that binds them together?
In principle, the film is not as bad as it may seem at first glance. Not a masterpiece of course, but there are pluses in it. First, the characters are not as cardboard as they usually are. Everyone was given attention and told their story. Secondly, the killer chose a very perverse punishment, but in the course of the action we begin to understand that the prisoners are not so holy and indeed were held hostage for a reason. And, thirdly, this is of course the final morality that saving their own skins, well-being, people spit on others and simply do not notice how they ruin other human life.
Of the minuses, it is worth noting only that each of the characters reveals themselves too late, a person is killed before their eyes, and they cannot confess their sins. There may be a feeling that they simply do not believe that they will be killed, that everything is not really happening. This lack of faith is inherent in many films, and this plot factor is very annoying.
In the end, we can say that this film is exactly one time, it does not catch stars from the sky, and literally admits that it is another copy of something bigger.
There is always a connection between a pimp, a priest and a prosecutor!
So, the elimination game. Time has gone... We begin to remember our sins. Such films are popular now, but this does not underestimate the importance of this.
The film is not bad, despite some crumpled moments in the game of actors, they are not very distracting, you are more attracted by the plot. The question asked at the beginning of the film "Why?" will pop up in your head constantly.
Everything will be quite difficult, although you, in general, expect it, after reading the summary. At the end of the film, you get what you expect. The answer to the mystery. No more, no less. This film is for once, but this time you will watch it with pleasure.
There is no division into good and bad, guilty and innocent. Every person has a great cocktail of qualities, try to figure out who is who. Very different people gathered in the picture, you need to find a connection. But what has always amused me in all such thrillers is the mandatory presence of a priest among the prisoners. He's like a guarantor that it's not easy, okay, killer and pimp, but priest??? According to the idea of the writers, this is probably an incredible trick with the ears, which should tear down the head. Well, here, in addition to the priest, there are 8 more heterogeneous characters who very vaguely intersect with each other, so this moment can be omitted.
Obvious plus pictures, it is realistic. I didn’t see any absolutely stupid moments, either in history or in people’s behavior. It could have happened. Why not?
Second positive. The whole film is based on plot, intrigue, mystery. There is no typical cruelty, no necessary abomination. The emphasis is shifted towards the puzzle and this is a plus.
For me personally, this is a story in one closed space. It’s always hard to get something out of the bare minimum. It's always interesting.
The result: of such thrillers - very worthy. There is a plot, there is a mystery, a good selection of diverse characters, everything is logical and not drawn out. Yes, and the end will please you in its own way.
Another movie, claiming the style of “Saws” and “Cuba”, and another movie, which failed miserably.
9 strangers to each other people find themselves in one incomprehensible place and try to find out how and why they got there.
Usually, the biggest puncture of such films is banality and predictability. Here, the creators hit the jackpot: acting at zero, scenery at zero, musical accompaniment at zero (and hence the tension / suspense / atmosphere), and, of course, the plot is also at zero. Following the logic of the film, I was very worried about the question, where are the other half a hundred people who were somehow involved in this story? Well, there, cleaners, sellers, security guards, postmen, random passers-by... After all, they also had a hand in the series of events for which the main villain punishes the main characters.
From the very beginning to the very end, the film does not cause any interest, does not make you empathize and even guess what is there and how it will be. That's just not interesting. I think that's the worst thing that can happen to a movie.
The idea, although not new and not original, still has potential, and in skillful hands could draw a satisfactory assessment, but here, unfortunately, no.

One psychopath kidnapped nine people so they could brainstorm together, find out why they were kidnapped and confess to their dirty deeds.
This psychopath is an American, so everything has to be tolerant and liberal. Among the abductees must be: a black, Latino or Asian, a woman, a policeman and a bandit, a priest and a pedophile, a blue or hoodlum, a botanist or a rocker.
If the abductees do not understand the reason for their stay indoors, they will lose one person every tenth minute.
The theme of such a movie has long been successfully played in “Saw” and “Five unknowns”, and this film “Nine on the list of dead” can not boast of originality. The main thing in such a movie, how the authors will be able to combine the history of all these diverse characters together.
And even despite the limited financial possibilities, visible to the naked eye, the film turned out quite decent. This is due to the unpredictable ending of the film. The actors played quite well, at least no one fell out, and did not particularly stand out.
The filmmakers of Nine on the Dead List only had enough money for the microscopic, episodic role of Daniel Bouldwin. But this is enough to draw the viewer’s attention to this film. Yes, and special effects, weapons and pyrotechnic effects and scenes of fights are made in an extremely modest budget version.
In general, the film “Nine on the list of the dead” is not bad, it is worth watching, but no more.
6 out of 10
To watch this film, I was knocked by only one person and her name is Melissa Joan Hart, a very promising but little-known actress. Also, the decisive fact that made you pay attention to this picture was the fact that this film is a representative of the genre of detective thriller, and this in itself is an interesting combination. At the same time, having not seen anything like this before, I can add that the plot turned out to be very original.
The film takes place in an enclosed space, in which, at first glance, nine ordinary people are handcuffed to pipes. Informed by the rules of the game, nine hostages must unravel the mystery of their stay in this terrible place. Due to a modest budget, most of the film is based on dialogue, and the focus is on how the mindset of a person changes in the face of the fear of death, rather than bloody murder. I think the creators of the film chose the optimal, albeit risky solution – to minimize the spectacular scenes in favor of the development of the story and the characters themselves. And this proved to be a justified risk, since the strongest moments of the film are the reasoning and reasoning of the characters about their connectedness in one common story.
As for the characters, they are presented very successfully, nine people who are completely different from each other, both externally and internally (but still at times they are united by one thing - illogical actions). I will say one thing about the actors that outwardly they fit their roles, but in the initial scenes they treated their game somewhat superficially, and only by the middle of the whole action began to play more believable. Of the entire cast, I want to highlight Lucille Sung, as she played an order of magnitude higher against the rest.
The disadvantages of this film I want to include the work of the operator and composer, as I expected that these characteristics will keep the viewer in suspense until the very end, but my hopes were not fulfilled. And the biggest drawback, perhaps, is the finale, which ends in the middle of a word, I do not know what the director expected, but such openness of the final left only an unpleasant residue. Perhaps the main enemy of this film was its funding, if it was bigger, perhaps there would be no these disadvantages.
But despite this, the film leaves a deep impression, while giving food to the mind that it is possible that every action we take, every action we take, can directly or indirectly affect the lives of others.
1) for example, one girl who was fond of magic in her youth would not be so insincere in her emotions;
2) a little-known person whose surname is consonant with the “red tree” would replace some symbols;
(3) a group of an indefinite number of persons would use more colours;
(4) an older man from Virginia would have been a little more dissolute;
And finally,
5) the light would not have turned off so early,
You would be here because of the wild delight of what you saw.
Don't you understand? That's the movie at first, too. But unravelling thread by thread the events that took place, revealing the maps, the heroes find the answer to the main question. But the price for thinking is too high.
I do not ask anything for the solution of the above (except for “yes”, if you like), so I explain:
The first (and the main, in my opinion!) disadvantage of this film is the actors who so falsely performed their roles. With the exception, perhaps, of Lucille Sung - Mrs. Cheng, quite frightenedly rattling in an incomprehensible language, yes James Victor. Eddie's from a pharmaceutical company, the only sane person in this situation. And above, I meant Melissa Joan Hart, or Sabrina, the little witch (half of the movie, damn, I remembered!)
The second minus is the script. Mr. Mahoney (and the consonant “mahogony” from the English “red tree”) could reduce the dialogue in places, adding more dynamics in return, and either completely remove slurred flashbacks, or, conversely, add stories and other characters.
The third minus, by the way, is also associated with flashbacks. Well, no different than the current heroes from themselves the year before (especially Kelly)! Makeup could have worked better!
The fourth point is about the operator. It's a fucking thriller! Where are the sharp shots, unexpected angles and other “things”? Instead, a camera floating around the room.
And finally , the ending. The “wow” effect didn’t work (more precisely, it worked, but immediately went out), because the film ends on a very incomprehensible frame. That's it? So what? ? ?
"Nine on the list of dead" is a kind of mix from "Death Maze" and "Saws." With the "Death Maze" he shares not only the same number of kidnapped people, but even types - a priest, an African-American gangster. And with "Saw" - an attempt to give this meat grinder a deep meaning, a touch of pseudophilosophical fabrications on the theme that we all, like atoms, interact with each other, forming molecules, and these connections affect not only our lives, but also the lives of others, blah blah blah blah blah. I will not argue that this eternal inexhaustible topic is always relevant, but there have been many similar reflections, and many of them have been done much better.
Of course, all nine strangers in this case are related, but how? They do not know each other, they do not share information in a hurry, because each managed to make a couple of pretty skeletons in the closet. Since the viewer is given information in portions, in small quantities, it is difficult to predict the development of events. A couple of versions can be made, but not the fact that you guess. However, in this unpredictability there is a minus - the creators of the film completely deprived the viewer of the opportunity to think about the essence of what is happening. You just have to sit and watch.
Oh yes, there’s one thing this movie has in common with The Deadly Maze: the characters. I admit that some of them are not as cardboard and predictable in their words and actions as in the Deadly Maze, but they are still unnatural. Because of their picture scare, fake anger, contrived tantrums, sudden revelations, clearly spelled out by the script, no compassion arises. Well, they do not cause me interest, I do not want at least any of them to remain alive. If anyone stays, I don't care. I attribute this to the mistake of both writers and actors. The worst thing, in my opinion, was that the one who looked most like a real person was Coogan (Lawrence Turner). But still, I liked Mrs. Chang (Lucille Sung) the most - she spoke only Chinese, very emotionally, rarely got into the frame, in general, some pluses.
What else can I say about the movie? His budget by modern standards is quite small - only two million American rubles, so the camera tries not to go outside the basement, and a close-up filmed only a couple of murders, the rest remains behind the scenes, rely on your imagination. However, despite the carefully concealed cheapness, I did not feel monotony - I was very curious what still connects these unpleasant people.
After watching, I had two questions. One, what the fuck is the ending? Did anyone understand what it was? And the second – why the locking mechanism on the basement door closes with the sound of a spinning revolver drum instead of a metal clang?
For those who can’t live without stories about people trapped in the basement.
“I suppose you all want to know why I brought you here? Okay, I'll take it. You are here to tell me why you are here!
So, in a nutshell, you can describe what's happening on the screen. Nine people, most of whom do not know each other and have no connection at all, must recall an event from their past that is directly related to each of them and makes them all accomplices in one terrible crime. It is so terrible that the organizer of this meeting threatens them with the death penalty. An amnesty is granted only in exchange for the correct answer.
We will try to assess the chances of the participants. They are, to put it mildly, very few. To be more precise, the number of these chances tends to zero. Heroes begin to remember their former exploits, looking for more terrible misdeeds among them (a reasonable move). Yes, only here it turns out that many of the gathered are bright and outstanding personalities, crime for them is a common and very familiar thing, they managed to smooch and mess around, you will not remember everything. That's the first problem. The second is the terrible stress, panic and monstrous doses of adrenaline, as it should be with any more or less normal person in this situation: not only have they been kidnapped and locked up in some basement, but also every ten minutes one of them is killed. Blood, brains on the wall, wonderful conditions for solving puzzles. From here, by the way, another problem grows: no one will ever give a damn what they did, so there are fewer and fewer players in this quiz, and therefore fewer ideas. And to add to all of the above, one of the victims doesn't understand a word of English. She's definitely no use.
Meanwhile, the tape manages to capture the viewer’s attention at the beginning and keep it inflated by intrigue almost to the very end. I wonder what happened there. Well, the denouement, as often happens in such films, brings with it sadness and disappointment, allowing you to instantly recall the events of the last hour and a half and realize that during this time you were rubbed with fierce game.
When the kidnapper’s motives are revealed, new questions arise along with the answers. In particular, was he so right and just in his understandable desire for revenge? Yes, some of his victims did deserve to be executed by him, but only a few. In fact, most of them were guilty only of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So let’s punish their parents, or they’ve created villains here. School teachers have trained such bandits. Friends and relatives too, just in case - the environment leaves an imprint. In general, the avenger clearly went to extremes and went very far beyond justifiable necessity.
In general, the film is quite watchable, the action develops dynamically, it is not necessary to get bored. Intrigue, as I mentioned, is served fairly well, and holds quite skillfully. Except it was a little weak. Not even the ending, but the idea. In the end, everything had to end in a bloody massacre.
In one room are 9 people, handcuffed at a distance from each other. They don't know each other. A masked man walks into the room and says they are all connected. Their task is to understand what exactly. In the meantime, he'll kill one of them every 10 minutes. On the one hand, what can a pedophile, a priest, an assistant prosecutor, a gangster, a mobster, a cop, a biologist, an ordinary guy, and a Chinese grandmother who doesn't even know English have in common? It’s not really that simple.
+ Great idea of the movie!
+ The next topic of death and the value of life is presented in the right angle.
+ Well-designed and logically constructed chain of events and connectedness of data of people;
+ A life ending that philosophically shows how things would have really happened if they were real. Not ideally predicted ending;
+ The effect of surprise of victims and the development of events and thoughts of the characters;
+ Quite interesting additional actions of the characters, in addition to thinking about their connectedness.
- In principle, it is possible to predict who will remain alive.
- It is not a logical action of a man in a mask for a few minutes before the end of the film.
I like such interesting films with elements of the detective genre and life at stake. Impressive and exciting. It is better to watch the film without stopping, periodically stopping it and discussing with friends the further course of events and your possible guesses.
An interesting story built on deception and blood. That our sometimes minor actions or inactions lead to global events. How small flaws of small people, gathered together, ruin someone’s fate irrevocably.
Worth watching. The disadvantages are small, but they weigh quite significantly, so
7 out of 10
I don't understand the film's not really low rating. Although, it is possible that this film is not for the masses and for fans of this genre and theme. I don’t know why I haven’t heard of this movie before. Like most users, I found it by accident. Read the synopsis I was just amazed - this is exactly what I was looking for.
I wanted to watch a movie from a twisted plot, well, not so much as to blow my head off, but so that everything was clear at the end. And I found one. And if you happen to stumble upon this film, then I can only tell you one thing - you must watch it. And if you think you're in for a movie with a lot of violent scenes (although some people associate the movie with Saw), then I want to disappoint you. There is no murderer who cuts off the limbs of a sober man in front of those present, wanting to discover the secret secrets of their dark past. No, it's a decent movie with moderate episodes of nalysium that are carefully hidden. There is nothing to close your eyes.
The plot is even cooler than the title itself (for me personally, the title and the poster are two big pluses in favor of watching this film) and as we get closer to the finale, it becomes more interesting. Nine people have to find the answer to the question, why are they here? It is difficult to find the answer when you first see a person and even every ten minutes one goes into oblivion.
So, in moderation, a cruel film with a twisted plot that will make you keep your eyes on what is happening on the screen until the very end, a great thriller with an amazing smart script, shocking, impressive and very strange ending. A film for a one-time viewing on a dull winter evening in big company.
I will immediately make a reservation that I have not watched any part of the world-famous film Saw. I think this film is too cruel and meaningless, and my nerves are not iron, I love light thrillers and horror movies. In principle, the film “Nine on the list of the dead” was such.
The story centers on nine people and one murderer, who easily kidnapped them and imprisoned them in some abandoned industrial zone. It was difficult to understand what unites all these people, what this psychopath needs from them, but just dig a little deeper into their past, it becomes clear that they are united by one person, an innocent soul who has become a bargaining chip in the fate of each of the abductees.
The film lacked sharpness, everything is too played and not natural, after the first 20 minutes you already understand the essence of the whole mystery, easily put all chess in their places, but the characters of the film continue to dull. I didn’t like Kelly’s character, she tried too deliberately to hide the truth about her life and her crimes, I didn’t like the denouement with her participation, I didn’t like her story, she didn’t impress me in principle and I think she should have been killed first.
If we talk about the tragedy of the main character and the murderer, then I think all this was pointless, all this cruelty is sucked out of the finger, all this alleged revenge is outright stupidity. From the outside, a perfectly healthy, rational person, able to think, unveiled in the veil of rage, and on the other hand, such illogical actions. You could catch a couple of these nine, soak them in the entrance, and let the rest continue to live, because they are the same suckers in this world, just were in the wrong time and place.
The only thing I liked about this movie was the pedophile pervert. A very colorful character, he showed himself extremely ambiguous from the very first minutes of the film. His strange behavior in prison, his frank audacity in admitting his sins, his vile laughter and cheeky jokes - all of which I really liked. I wanted him to be the first, I wanted him to be killed with special cruelty, but at the same time it was impossible not to laugh at his jokes and manner of behavior, he is a real freak.
I agree with many, the film is one time, the good that it does not stretch for two and a half hours, and takes only one and a half. The plot is simple, so time flies by quickly.
So the game has begun... Although stop, it’s not “Saw”, it’s a completely different movie.
The story is that 9 people from all walks of life are abducted and they wake up bound in some strange place. But what have they done? Why are they in such an unenviable situation? This is the whole catch - they themselves must understand why they got here, for what kind of misconduct and what connects them all. And again, it's not that easy, they're not just told, "Guys, you can sit here and think and then tell me why you're here," no, every 10 minutes, one of them gets killed. Here they are in turn “punished”, but this is how everyone can die. Do they understand what unites everyone for the crime and who is behind it?
At the beginning of the viewing, it seems that John Kramer (designer) came to life and started his affairs again, however, then we see that this film does not have those philosophical thoughts that the famous “maniac” pursued. But at the same time, the similarities with “Saw” are simply striking, of course, not the whole idea is taken, but the main essence clearly lies at the heart of the plot. And this film, his script, is very similar to the 5th part of the famous franchise. Sometimes the soul demands not just murder, but more sophisticated punishment. Throughout the tape stretches the main question: what could they do without knowing each other? The answer to this question is very interesting, and still very well thought out and intertwined stories of the characters. Melissa Joan Hart plays one of these 9 victims of imprisonment, I can say that it is very unusual to see from childhood the familiar “Sabrina the Little Witch” in a film of this genre and in such a role. The young sorceress has long grown up and in this film she played quite decently.
Of course, the main idea of the film is taken from Saw, but the tape itself is also very good. If you want a mystery, not a bloody mess and more dismemberment, then “nine on the list of dead” will do.
6 out of 10
The whole problem with Nine on the Dead List is that there is Saw. It is impossible not to compare these two films, because the concept, morality and presentation of the films are the same. And in one and the other tape there is an unknown maniac, there are several victims who fell into a trap for committing immoral acts and there is a morality that explains to the viewer that all actions committed by people can lead to far-reaching consequences. Not always pleasant.
Despite the fact that the cast is not popular, the budget is small, and the action takes place in one room, the film is not bad and deserves attention. And the genius of screenwriter Patrick Vehe Mahoney and director Chris Shadley would be more noticeable if there were no genius of screenwriter Lee Wannell and director James Wan.
5 out of 10
Let me start with what is mentioned in many reviews – about comparing this tape with the famous “Saw”. I do not see Nine on the Dead List as plagiarism. It's quite an independent thriller. This movie can be compared to any other in this genre and find something in it that “we’ve already seen it somewhere.” And I liked the movie. Let me tell you why.
Nine strangers find themselves locked in one room, handcuffed to pipes. The kidnapper asks them to determine what binds them all, to find the answer to the question - why exactly are they here and now in such a terrible situation? Who judges them for what? Thinking time is 9 minutes, and then Mr. X kills one of the defendants, and the countdown goes back.
So, what I liked:
1. Attachment to the screen. Despite the fact that the action of the film is enclosed in four walls and epic action was not foreseen, I did not have the desire to pause the film. Basing an interesting plot literally on conversations is not so easy, and this thriller-dialogue may not have provided the necessary tension for this genre, but it did not allow you to get bored.
2. Actors. The tape is low-budget, faces unknown, and played well.
3. The psychological aspect. I liked the fact that this story showed different facets of the human person. All victims of violence in a critical situation behaved in their own way. Someone fell into depression, someone quietly prayed, someone took for granted and flaunted his laugh at the situation, and someone is generally a cool nigger (forgive me all this word, but it is appropriate) and now will deal with everything. Due to the fact that not all people are able to think sanely within minutes of possible death, the characters hopelessly lose time, which, in principle, is enough to find out what they have in common - the task given to them by the killer was not at all difficult. In addition, not everyone is ready to pull their skeletons out of the closet even on their deathbed.
4. Final. It wasn’t shocking, but it certainly surprised me. Everything turned quite unpredictable - once again you think about how deceptive the appearance and generally the first impression of a person. And how dark someone's soul - to survive at any cost becomes the main task, and reputation comes to the fore even before the lives of other people.
Of course, this thriller is not one of the best, stars from the sky are missing. The shooting is quite mediocre (remember, remember, the film is low-budget – forgive), but the main disadvantage for me was rather that the proper tension was not created. Looks with interest - definitely, with fear and excitement - hardly. Plus, the finale, which I, on the one hand, praised for the suddenness, can be scolded for ... stupidity or something. But, to my taste, the tape is worthy of a one-time viewing to brighten up the evening with an interesting story and a good way to grab your attention is to show you a plot built on dialogue.
7 out of 10
When I saw this movie, I had a good impression and the feeling that I had seen it somewhere before. There are many such pictures, but this one I would like to highlight especially.
First of all, the plot: nine people wake up, handcuffed, in an unfamiliar place, and a stranger explains to them that they can survive only by solving a mystery. This alone gives hope for an interesting spectacle. In principle, this is how it turned out, although the ending came out a little unthought out, it seems that only one final scene is missing, which you will understand after watching.
I liked the logical reasoning of the characters who tried to find a common language in order to survive. It looked quite plausible, especially since the acting did not disappoint. Melissa played well, her character turned out to be a very colorful lady, and the rest stood out from the good side. Thanks to the high-quality play of the actors, the viewer observes the behavior of living heroes, which undoubtedly goes to the film in the plus.
It is possible to highlight some shortcomings of the plot in terms of kidnapping of people to the main characters, the scenes with their abduction were not too plausible, but this is the disadvantage of many such paintings. The people he kidnapped were very interesting. Gradually, the viewer sees that each of them has its own skeletons in the closet.
In general, we have a rather high-quality clone of the famous “Saw”, not devoid of shortcomings, which, however, do not greatly affect the impressions of the film. I would like to recommend this picture to all fans of such thrillers.
The film is not original, absolutely. I will say even more: Chris Shadley, apparently, was an ardent fan 'Saws'.
I would like something more, an explosion of emotions, which would cause vehement euphoria, they say, this is the film that I was waiting for, but, alas, this is the movie that I was waiting for.
There are moments for which, of course, I would like to praise the director, but more noticeable, only the similarities with 'Saw' and, unfortunately, nothing new.
If you just want to replenish the collection of thrillers you have watched, then 'Nine in the list of dead' - the very thing, but if you consider the film as something very grandiose, in modern cinema, it is better to devote your time to another thriller or horror.

At first, I wanted to praise the film for those 10 minutes, for keeping the chronology straight. But in the end, these “ten minutes” lasted for eight minutes and six. So in this regard, the "Exam" wins. However, this film does not miss this detail.
I liked the fact that people were killed, it is unclear on what principle. He went in, asked what they were up to, shot him, took out the body. Who's sorry? Almost no one, because no one really liked them. Probably, the director made the film with the aphorism in his head: “If you put an innocent person in prison without explanation, deep down he will know why.” So it came out, and the heroes laid out all their sins. This movie reminded me of Agatha Christie’s “Ten Negroes.”
It was a pity only to an elderly Japanese woman who did not speak English, and this, apparently, should entertain the audience, given how evil she was ridiculed by the prisoners.
Surprisingly, none of those on the list of dead were horrified by the mask of a maniac. It seemed to me one of the scariest in the history of cinema (sweeter than Michael Myers’ Halloween or Jason’s Friday the 13th). But the “guilty” did not appreciate it, and only did they swear at the killer.
Why they gathered there is not important, but interesting their reasoning – every ten minutes different.
It was a bit sad to watch Melissa Joan Hart, who I know from the TV series “Clarissa” (and the movie “Sabrina Goes to Rome”). Ten years the actress changed beyond recognition. Then a teenager, then an aunt. It is a woman, not a woman or a woman.
A decent thriller, with a good silent ending. But with a sprain. As some were abducted, they could have been removed altogether. After all, the film itself looks with interest from a gloomy room. But that doesn't ruin anything. I forgot all about the kidnappings by the end of the movie. By chance, I remembered...
