One of the worst and worst horror stories I've seen in recent years. It all starts out as second-rate fiction, it seems that the actors do not strain, and the budget of the film does not allow you to shoot any exciting scenes. The post-apocalypse and horror of nuclear war remain behind the scenes, but it doesn’t seem to bother the survivors much. However, in the second half of the film sheds its mask and shows its true identity. These are not fantastic horrors at all, but a parable about the decay of society and the nature of man. Having lost their only child in the bunker (abducted for experiments on children, committed by soulless security forces), the survivors began to gradually lose their human appearance, and here the skill of the actors played in full force. Horrible, eerie footage of the human fall turned out to be so realistic that after watching it becomes creepy and want to wash. The film can immediately forgive the holes in the plot (in part about the post-apocalypse and nuclear war), because not before that - what is happening on the screen is nasty, but at the same time something keeps from stopping the viewing. Cinema can be strong, although I personally disagree with the director of this film, but for the created atmosphere of despair, he deserves a good assessment.
Competently make a thriller of confined space is possible, although with a number of reservations. These reservations and conventions include the need to enter this space and the inability to go out; clearly spelled out characters and their motivation; a competently composed conflict arising from the previous paragraph (why it is necessary - maybe everyone would make friends and stay there?), an interesting outcome. Examples of such films are many, and a variety of genres and plot bases: “Room of Fear”, simply “Room”, “Hostage”, “Attack on the 13th Precinct”, “Identification”, “Gronholm Method”, some episodes from “Saws” and “Cubes”, the limiting case – “Buried alive”.
It's not good here. Doubtful properties of the shelter (only a toilet like a “point over the abyss” of what is worth, and the owner, meanwhile, is afraid of cracks around the germ door), characters whose transformation we see only by clothes (readable prescribed personalities are only a couple of the brightest – “loser”, “burnt cynic”, “strong woman”), highly strange plot twists (game outside). Good, perhaps, denouement - it is strong choice.
And in the dry remnant, we have a story of people who slowly tarnished to the level and appearance of the famous singer GG Allin’a (Google with caution). And at some point you find yourself watching not a psychological thriller with a light element of fiction, but some kind of thrashkin of the B series with blood smearing and creepy fetishes.
You want to watch the same movie: about the bunker, about the psychology of survival in the team, about a scumbag, a loser and a strong woman, about game outside, only good - see Cloverfield, 10. That's the truth - all the same, only with competent accents in the development of the conflict and without sliding into the "Cargo 200".

Let’s say this movie is a coin with two sides. One of them shows us a rather inconclusive part related to what happens immediately after the explosion: the people who found themselves in the shelter, somehow not very surprised by the atomic bombing, as if it was a routine matter, and some even want to go outside. Some will say, “They are in shock.” If that's true, they've played back the shock without you noticing it. After some time, we are shown the “enemy”, in comic costumes, whose motives are not clear. Plastic tunnels, a laboratory, children in stasis “cocoons” are not really important, because in the future this storyline will not get any development. As for me, this is basically the most controversial and rather useless moment of a film that looks foreign.
We talked about one side of the coin, let’s move on to the second. It is the dissolution of society, a small but still society. You will not see anything extraordinary here, the decline of moral and moral qualities of a person in the conditions of post-apocalypticism. With all this, this part of the film looks very convincing, here we see the transformation of once ordinary people into “creatures” motivated by animal instincts. At times, The Separator resembles films of the “new French extremism” with their inherent violence and depiction of sex. From the acting work stood out: Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Eklund and Rosanna Arquette, this trio “brightly burns” the second half of the film.
The finale of the film is also ambiguous, causing questions: “What’s next and what’s the point?” You can blame this picture for a lot, but we must understand that there are not so many such films, and despite the timekeeping, it looks not without interest.
The Separator is probably one of the most disgusting films I’ve seen. But ugly in a good way, if I may say so. Because in it all this horror has a very clear meaning and message – to show how people change in extreme circumstances and how low they can fall.
After a nuclear explosion, eight people escape in the form of a bunker in the basement of a New York skyscraper. Food is available, water is small, but how much they will have to sit is unclear. Yes, the doors of the bunker - instant death from radiation, inside - a slow death from hunger and disease.
At first, the characters are kept as cheerful as possible, but very soon they start to get serious. There will be murders with dismemberment, and debauchery, and complete moral decay. By the way, the creators released very eloquent promo posters for this film, where it is gradually shown how the appearance of the characters changed over time. It's scary to watch.
I really liked Michael Eklund playing Bobby. Playing bastards and freaks is his classic role, but in this film he surpassed himself, showing more eloquently than others how a man from a seemingly ordinary average guy turns into a real monster.
Also unexpectedly well performed in the lead female role Lauren German, many well known for the role of detective Decker in “Lucifer”. Here she plays a desperate, determined girl, and against the background of pedantic Decker looks quite impressive.
In general, if you want to test the nerves for strength, I recommend the film to watch. In terms of psychological pressure, I have not yet found him an equal.
Amazing, tense, hard to watch thriller! Because the film crudely and directly shows the slow descent of humans to the level of animals. Because playing when the cards are falling in most of the disgusting characters is incredible. And also because the film is an allegory of recent history. No artificially created viruses, natural disasters or zombies. Just the dark, perverse stupidity of humanity – from waging nuclear war to the self-preserving survival of the “fittest” mentalities.
Characters trapped in the bunker are simply doomed to collision due to limited resources. When isolated without bright prospects, at first, several old-school people stand out from a motley group of sheltered people who are able to single-handedly ensure an authoritarian order in the spirit of traditions fanned by eternity, and at the same time for a full set of terry money-makers. It seems that this was a hint of power 'far right'. It is overthrown (figuratively speaking) by a “liberal dictatorship” that allows it to choose only between “brown” and “blue.” With such dominants, ordinary 'little people' find themselves in the position of driven rats. Few will emerge from the scenes of debauchery and insanity unscathed and hardened like a steel needle. The final mess in the spirit of “Lord of the Flies” ends with the fact that the only hope for a way out of this situation lies with feminism, since any other illusions for survival are no longer valid.
It remains a mystery whose side the occupying soldiers belonged to and why they took away the children. The filmmakers were hardly serious about any country or military bloc, they needed only a condition to explain the high degree of paranoia caused by the loss of hope in a group of survivors of a nuclear explosion, locked in a small shelter intended for one person. Although if you really want to find some parallel in modern reality, the actions of world juvenile justice are most suitable for this “metaphor”, but in fact a plot trick. However, if you think about it well, stormtroopers and tunnels of biological danger leading to the laboratory with children were needed in the plot to get a protective suit into the shelter, which was necessary for passage into the outside world, which has entered the phase of the nuclear post-apocalypse.
The search for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie led me to this. It is impossible to speak positively if you do not share the values of the characters of the film.
It is very important to note that making such a disgusting film is also a kind of achievement.
I'll try to describe this nonsense.
It all begins with the fact that the owner of the bunker, named Mickey, appears in the film as a kind of inveterate indignant. During the explosion, trying to close the door and keep out the crowd fleeing the explosion. The consequences are expected for Mickey. The people who broke into his bunker are full of nothingness, characterizing a society that must be wiped off the face of the Earth. Each element of the film expresses the worst features of the values and life of the countries of production. All these dirt and vices do not come out in emergency situations. They are present in such a bad society. And to heal such an infection is possible only like the biblical Sodom and Gamorrah.
Every movement of the characters is saturated with bad, selfishness, lust, envy, jealousy, malice, greed, consumption to exhaustion. To Mickey in the house seems to fall 7 deadly sins, or maybe something like that, I will not dig this movie, just describe what I saw.
As a result, the guests behave so disgusting that it becomes sad. It's not just the situations, the reactions of the characters, or the atmosphere. It is sad that someone thought that making such a movie was adequate. It's okay to show it to people. That instead of explaining the plot, to show bathing in feces for two hours obscenely nasty people - it's enough to say something.
Still, what can I say? Surely the purpose, the message of the film in the eyes of the author was an entertaining film showing the life of people of Western society in a situation of nuclear explosion.
But between the lines came only the justification for the destruction of such a society.
And the only positive character in this movie is a nuclear explosion.
There are movies that leave you feeling devastated. 'The Separator' is one of them. The ending is pressing with its despair, and in the head of the heroine, for sure, there was only one question. 'Was it worse than here?'
I wouldn’t call 'The Divide' a movie about disaster or the apocalypse. Rather, it's just a film about people, and how they slowly start to go crazy, locked up in a small room with limited supplies. And each of them goes crazy in their own way. Someone quietly, barely noticeable, can not break away from reading a book or drawing a picture, even when there is chaos, screaming, and someone dies. Someone goes crazy loudly, with a challenge, inviting others to join their madness.
I'm hooked. It was scary for Eva, who was perfectly embodied by Lauren German, it was interesting to watch Josh, played by Milo Ventimiglia (I love it when he is given expressive roles of psychopaths, he copes perfectly, making his characters attractive and frightening at the same time). The unpredictability of the characters has done its job - every second you are tense, who will go crazy and when everything will go to hell.
Yes, we have not been given the essence of the disaster or who the people in the costumes are. But for some reason I didn’t want to know this time. I just wanted to predict whose madness would be the endpoint of their attempts to survive. And the ending seemed like a great ending to me.
Thinking that there was nothing left, the survivors decided to destroy the last thing that was, and it seemed that each of them was ready for its outcome.
If you want to see something sticky, with a permanent sense of tension and confidence that there will be no good ending, I advise.

I like low-budget movies. It is hard, sincere, hitting hard. And so I read the synopsis of this film, and I decided to see roughly what I would see.
I saw everything I expected. Except it's not that good.
First of all, what can you expect from a bind where a bunch of random people find themselves locked in a confined space with little hope of escape? That's right, the story is about human degradation, and the ending will be tough. But all this is obvious, and more important is not “what” but “how”. How do seemingly civilized people turn into animals? What will push them? Why won't there be a way back? This one's not in the movie. Yes, there are a couple of scenes that more or less explain motivation. But the film focuses on atrocities, not on psychology. And that's not exactly what I want to look at.
Secondly, about a minute in the fifteenth script suddenly turns in the direction of a fantastic thriller. And that's a total failure, guys! After an intriguing plot twist, the whole arc just hangs in the air and doesn't even try to answer any of the questions it left behind. Who are these people? Why would they want a girl? Why did they do this to her? The movie doesn't really care about that. All this arch is needed only to leave the heroes a suit of chemical protection.
And thirdly, the main character. Oh, that model of feminism and resilience. And I don't mind those types. Just in this genre it looks a little played, and even closer to the end it is generally unrealistic.
So despite the general realism of the characters, the ruthlessness of the script, the depressing metamorphosis of the personalities that the film tells about, in general, despite all that should be there, I can not recommend it. Too much "but," too much "don't believe," too much savoring violence instead of psychologicalism. There are better movies on the subject.
What could be worse than a nuclear explosion? That’s right, this is a group of almost strangers who took refuge in a shelter in time, which is either under a residential building or somewhere else. In the turmoil shown, it is difficult to understand where the crowd ran there. Well, let’s say it’s a kind of bunker. Old, loose smoker-commandant Mickey (Michael Bien) runs this place and he, oddly enough, is a large supply of canned food and drinking water. In addition to Mickey himself, 8 more people found themselves in this shelter, including two women, one underage girl and 5 men. It would seem that a tense chamber thriller-drama begs, and this is a good reason to once again expose the hidden sides of many law-abiding freaks who in extreme situations manifest their true essence. The post-apocalyptic curtain opens and ta-da-dam!
To Xavier Jeans, as a director, I have no complaints at all, since the person has done everything in his power. But this is what the writers Carl Muller and Aaron Sheehan got high for turning such a good idea into expendable material, I don’t know. It’s like you had to try to ruin such a plot, while having at the disposal of talented actors, at least I can give three names: Michael Bien, Milo Ventimiglia and at worst, the same hopeless Roseanne Arquette (she, by the way, as I thought, age only benefited). All of them tried, and every penny (or penny) was paid. It’s all the more disappointing that the film goes deeper and deeper into some marathon of idiocy. Given that this picture is a sad satire on the consumer society, the burden of responsibility is multiplied by two.
So here we go. The film never hints at the time the characters spent in the bunker. Judging by the freshness of the corpses left after this or that event, everything happens in an accelerated mode, that is, within days, a maximum of three weeks, even four weeks. The question arises... What the hell, most of the actors have changed their shoes so quickly into voracious bastards, maniacs, sadists and out-of-the-box prostitutes. The most repulsive convicts for 20-40 years live & #39; in cramped, but not in offense & #39; while playing their chess, cards or mahjong, from time to time looking at their personal calendar. And here a handful of people can not unite in the light of the common tragedy, they are all concerned and ready to cling to each other’s throats, while apparently they all lived in the same building and are each other’s neighbors. Yes, I understand that initially they could not go anywhere, because there was radiation everywhere and naturally, it would lead to inevitable death. But after all, the branching in the scenario with aliens arriving in combined arms protective suits and such a short confrontation between the heroes and them should have found a logical continuation or at least an end. But no, they're all over our idiots, all the more because they're smart. You know, you spend hours discussing the behavior of the characters, the strange passage of time within these walls, the stupid script gurgles, it's not going to get us anywhere. Because once you explain one thing, 2-3 other contradictions emerge from it. Writers brewed porridge noble and go into details can not, as it will carry the status 'spoiler'.
There are special forces in human nature that we are unaware of until necessity brings them out. (c)
“The Divideer” I will no doubt put in the category of the few films that are literally devastating, shocking and at the same time mesmerizing. I don’t think I’ll watch this movie again, but I can’t forget it. Initially, I did not expect such an outcome. In the genre, it was stated that this is a post-apocalypse, for something more I did not hope. I thought there would be a bunch of guys hustling around in the basement and thinking with their gray matter how to get out and eventually do it. Not! After watching about a quarter of the film, I realized that I was going to have a psychological drama and I completely stopped hoping for landscapes of collapsed cities and the logical backstory of why what happened happened. You will not see or hear it, but you will find yourself in a locked room with 8 unfamiliar people.
By the way, about the heroes you really do not know anything in detail. Who are they by profession? How old are they? Do they have families? All of them are neighbors of an apartment block in New York. Here we have the inhabitant of the same bunker, Mickey, a black mysterious man Dalvin, two half-brothers Adrien and Josh and their friend Bobby, Marilyn with a small daughter and a couple Sam and Ava. It was very interesting to see how each character metamorphosed throughout the film, both externally and internally. Initially, they are all ordinary residents of the metropolis of the 21st century, neatly dressed, trimmed, prudently behaved. They treat the situation with some skepticism, but at the same time, they try to get out and find out what is behind the door. But time passes, the heroes are tested for strength and some break down, others try to remain in good health (as much as possible). I’m not surprised that it was a certain homo sapiens that tore the roof off, because one person took the closest person, another had to dismember the corpse for the first time in his life, a third promised to save the child and could not, but ran into some people in plastic suits. Actors, namely Milo Ventimiglia and Michael Eklund, whom I have never met anywhere else in films, very much got used to the roles, madness and cruelty was through and very frightening, you do not know what these people, turned into animals, will come up with in the next moment. I would say that all the actors managed, except Lauren German. Her charming face with gray eyes on her expressed nothing but indifference. I never saw an expression of shock, surprise, love, fear. Although it's actually the main character.
Conclusion: If you are a super-vulnerable person who believes in pony and world peace, do not look. Although I am not a fan of cruelty (here it is, but not to the smallest detail). The main idea is to show what a person will (or will not) turn into if he is placed in a zone of discomfort with the same individuals without a chance to get out, I like. After that, I was thinking about everything I saw for a long time, and if the film made me do it, then it’s an indicator that the film is good. And the emphasis in this work is on interpersonal relations and not on the apocalypse or its causes, it is just a scenery.
And of course, a delightful song running after my fate, for which I actually decided to watch this film.
A movie that I was going to see for a long time, but my hands never reached. When I saw it, it was a revelation to me.
A little preface. I am attracted to films based on the idea of a closed space where people either solve various puzzles or just try to survive. "The Separator" is from this opera. A group of people survive in a bunker after a nuclear attack. The description is intriguing, isn’t it?
The whole story begins quite “harmlessly” (if you can say so at all in this situation) for the characters. Everything happens, enough, peacefully. The food is shared among the “residents of the bunker”, everyone tries to help each other. But this idyll does not last long. Some of the survivors are beginning to realize that they can run everything and do whatever they want. Permissiveness turns them into wild animals, for whom only low needs matter. And it's scary! It is frightening how people from quite adequate transformed into unbridled animals. Throughout the film, you’ve been thinking about who you’d be under such circumstances. And as much as I'd like to believe that I'm above it all, I can't say for sure that I would be a positive hero in this story.
But it's about the movie. The success of "The Separator" can be safely called 2 components: atmosphere and actors. Desperation, a closed space, coupled with frighteningly magnificent antagonists, gives the picture a unique color that will haunt you for a long time after viewing. It's really "cripple" when two friends shave their bald... (if you know what I mean)
Given that the budget of the film is minimal, and the questions and problems that it raises are not at all uninteresting, I want to say that the film is a must-see.
However, I cannot help but warn the viewer. In my opinion, the film is gorgeous, but not everyone will be able to watch what is happening on the screen. Depressive, frightening, disgusting and unpleasant, containing scenes of all kinds of violence (from sexual to psychological), the terrible degradation of individual individuals – all this is in the Divide.
And yet the movie is worth watching. Yes, it has plot "holes" and illogicalities in the actions of the heroes, but the pros definitely cover all the minuses.
8 out of 10
The plot of the film is intriguing, because it is quite disposed to an interesting story, when, due to fantastic fiction, it is possible to perfectly investigate the urgent - people, isolating the characters of individual individuals, their actions or human society, limited to a certain group of actors. The plot is simple and short, but the bridgehead for a lot of conflicts from it is excellent, to expose human nature, play out complex moral contradictions, show the relationship of the team, solve confusing situations, fight for survival and much more. The deliberately minimally submitted computer graphics in the initial nuclear explosions are only an artistic condition that allows you to collect in the basement of a multi-storey house a bunch of characters forced to coexist with each other in the harsh environment of devastation and radiation at the top. A fantastic catalyst is present exclusively by the gas pedal, which enhances external factors in the grotesque that affect the disclosure of the multifaceted human essence. And in the presence of this, it would be easy to forgive excessively stretched timekeeping, exceeding the standard hour and a half, at the expense of absolutely unnecessary scenes outside the bunker, artistically simplifying the strict chamber nature of the production with a total mystery, in order to leave the characters and spectators in ignorance of the overall picture of the situation. All this could be a sharp socio-psychological thriller, if it fell into the hands of smart screenwriters and director.
Alas, the authors decided to focus on the show of freaks - moral and physical. We must pay tribute to the make-up artists who harmoniously conveyed the vile inner world of the characters due to their appearance, moving along the growing one, so that in the climax a person resembles a hellish creature that has lost the signs of reason and gender. However, it is difficult to talk about reason in the characters, if most of them are discharged, to put it mildly, by fools who are not able to rally in the face of a common (!) danger. It is clear that the much-vaunted degradation of personality, which has been shown by many, does not stand up to any criticism, which is the only one put in the key directorial task here. There is no gradual metamorphosis when initially the list of actors corresponds to the logical result. If fools are not able to cloak on their noses at least primitively that the door to the outside cannot be opened because of radiation, then all their further blatant actions do not cause surprise - what is the demand for madmen? It is impossible for the creators to penetrate the viewer’s head, forcing him to discuss the symbiosis of civilization and the individual in it, showing a fantasy when the first disappears under the hats of nuclear mushrooms, completely freeing the person from all inoculated rules, laws and values. None of the characters changed inside, being who he remained throughout the screen path without any development. In the end, it turns out that the mission of the film - if it is still applicable to modern cinema - consists of showing us an unpleasant gathering, where nasty and pathetic souls prevail, whose actions are destructive, selfish, not subject to any human values that are always bound to be in the person regardless of the existence of civilization or its collapse, because this is what makes a person a human being.
But is the film that empty? It is to be believed that it is not simple, but this key to consideration lies somewhere between the lines of a possible second layer, which turned out to be a really deep and psychologically strong study of society. But this is not about humanity. Pardon me, we are talking about her small piece, which cleverly spurs the French director. Bravo, Monsieur Xavier Jeans, that's genius! After all, not everyone is given a partial shot on American money, for the American hire and with the American cast a damning film, where the situation takes place in the destroyed nuclear attack of New York, the actors are exposed to endlessly vile, ugly and unfit for survival types, floundering in moral chaos, whose dreams are reduced only to stuffing the stomach and mechanical copulation of all with everyone, demonstratively above the door with hidden products, for which the throats gnawed, hangs a stained star-and-and-and-sand-sand-sand-sand-sand-sand-sand-death symbol of a dead person in the appropriate way. Shown in every sense, a decaying society, where divided madmen command, who do not have morals and implant concerned values greedily devour and sadistically fuck, corrupts and destroys itself, and then the director is no longer a prophet, but a contemporary.
So it turns out that the staging is disproportionately one-sided in the demonstration of human nature, as a feature film, because it is not worth a little finger, if you compare it with our picture “Letters of a Dead Man”, truly compassionately exploring a society that has entered the dangerous era of nuclear weapons, where too much pain and despair is shown, but not lost core humanism. Successful work only in reliable acting, when the lyceums without complaints tried on ugly makeup and skins of repulsive creatures, perhaps, except for the hero Michael Bien, who returned to the big screens, under whose management the team was harsh, but order. And also interesting work as a veiled director's sad satire. Of course, if you look for allegorical meanings where they are possible and not, the more so, diving into a vat with various abominations for a whole two hours.

What would happen if a group of people were locked in a confined space? This was thought of by many filmmakers who worked in various genres. The result was films of different quality and viewability - comedies, detectives, thrillers, some became cult and beloved, and some almost instantly forgotten. But what they have in common is the danger of the most enclosed space that leads to insanity. Somewhere it is furnished ridiculously, as in the Ryazan Garage, and somewhere locked up where there is no way out people begin to beasts, to mock their recent comrades, to believe that only they have the right to command, because, in their opinion, others are weak. Animals do not behave like this, they do not begin to rape or kill because of their whim – only man can do that. Who after that can no longer be considered either a man or a beast - it is not even an inhuman, but completely lost all evil.
The heroes of the divider found themselves in this situation. The nuclear explosion destroyed New York — we don't know who did it, we don't know what causes it — it's clearly not some crazy person who pressed the button, there must be reasons, but whether the characters were completely uninterested in international politics, or whatever — we're just confronted with the fact. A group of survivors is hiding in a bunker-equipped basement. No one called them there, they were only guests there, and at first they behaved accordingly - but only at first. Gradually increasing insanity caused by the unknown outside and confined space turn some of them into the same evil. Of course, not all at once, we will be shown a gradual process of reincarnation and while some characters can still be forgiven their madness by suffering from stress, hunger, uncertainty, then nothing is forgiven for others.
The plot here is very on the amateur and someone he will very much come, and someone will only recoil from him. You can adore apocalyptic movies, but only those where various viruses turn people into bloodthirsty zombies, machines go crazy and begin to exterminate their creators, attacked by evil representatives of alien races – in general, those in which there is a lot of bright action. There is another option in which floods, asteroid impacts, etc. and all the action centers around a group that, overcoming various obstacles, is looking for a safe place. The third one, which is used here. If in the first two you can still have fun with special effects, play with the troubles of the characters, give an excuse to enjoy the landscapes, then the third can only save the game of actors.
Is she good here or bad? In the purely subjective view of your submissive author, the middle came out. Along with good work, we got very average - the good thing that was disgusting was not. Some have had better moments of madness, like Roseanne Arquette and Michael Eklund. Someone has a less insane beginning - Courtney B. Vance and Ivan Gonzalez. Someone worked just fine - Ashton Holmes and Lauren German. But there were also those who were clearly on the hit and played their character equally strong from start to finish - Milo Ventimiglia and Michael Bien.
The film is divided into two parts and they are so different that it seems that two teams worked on their creation. If the first half looked very good option about the first days after the apocalypse in the best traditions of Fallout and your obedient author even liked, the second for the most part caused nothing but disgust with its cruelty. Add to this the final, as if plunged into the atmosphere of a great game and get

On the advice of a friend, I decided to see this work of art. I was flattered by the one I loved after "Heroes" Milo Ventimiglia...
What can I say about that? After watching, there was nothing left in my head and soul except negativity! This is reflected in all aspects of perception. The plot begins with a mysterious explosion that destroyed almost all life on the planet. Drama is cool, but it would be interesting to know what kind of explosion it was, what caused it and so on. Apparently, the author decided that this is not so important for the idea of the film. Once locked in the basement, our heroes begin to survive. And they are fighting not only chemical and biological substances from that atomic explosion, but also mysterious people in suits. Or are they military? I have no idea! Why did they kidnap the girl? You can continue indefinitely... I have already used the word “mysterious” 2 times, and this is not accidental, because apart from the fact of the presence of these events, we do not know anything, all the answers and explanations the author left behind.
The interaction of the heroes begins to gain momentum, and they all go wild and turn into animals, while we do not have time to penetrate any of them to sympathize with them. They are all faceless and undisclosed. As a result, we don’t see anything else in the film, except for some strained dialogue. Aside from the message that we all have an animal in us, and that society is the only thing that separates us from the merciless bastards, the film didn’t show anything. And here, I apologize, examples of normal films about the “fall of worthy personalities” in the history of cinema enough. The ending of the film was probably conceived as very strong, but the logic in it, as in the film itself - 0! One quote from my favorite movie The Dark Knight by Harvey Dent, “Either you die a hero, or you live until you become a villain,” is the whole point of the movie, which is absolutely not necessary to watch. There is nothing more to say, because I could not see the positive aspects here with all my desire. But if you like this genre, you can look at your leisure. The truth for the result I do not vouch and my task I consider fulfilled - the rest is on your conscience.
For all of the above, I paid for the most expensive known currency in the world – time. I can't get him back, but I'm sorry. I don’t even want to pull the score on a three with a minus for the effort:
Watching the film 'The Separator' I got a bunch of mixed feelings and emotions. At the beginning of the film, you empathize with each character, and at the end, you were filled with a feeling of hatred for each of the characters of the film. The film makes it clear that if you want to survive, you need to transcend love, friendship and family. When a critical situation comes, then everything ceases to matter and you have to remove all the masks behind which you hid in order to make important decisions to save yourself and the people around you. I think every person should experience this at least once in his life and look at himself (without bills). We can see a complete transformation from human to animal, and we can learn from the weakness of others in extreme situations.
The second question that the director touched upon is freedom of choice and what it can lead a person to. It becomes scary when people stop being controlled and begin to realize their most cruel desires and thoughts. With complete freedom of choice, the individual ceases to reckon with others and begins to act only on the basis of his desires and judgments. After watching, you understand why there is so much control over society in the world and what can happen when a person is given unlimited power and freedom of action.
The film is heavy and I recommend one to watch, so that one can understand each of the characters and understand why he does this and not otherwise. I can assure you that many of the antagonists of the film you will begin to understand, although you will hate them. Darkness and hopelessness throughout the picture will make you feel the right emotions. It's a 9/10 score, because it's not entirely clear why or how it all happened, but by the end it doesn't matter at all. Have a good time.
There are a lot of films about the end of the world, but really interesting and demonstrating something new only a few of them. ' Separator' maybe does not show something super new, but makes you watch what is happening, empathize with any of the characters, and everything goes on increasing ... the first 15-20 minutes of the film all looks like a typical pass treshka, but this is just a bundle that you have to wait to understand who is what is happening, what is happening, and what to wait for next. . .
Every person has a turning point in life when you suddenly rethink everything and begin not just to look at everything differently, but to live differently. For someone it is a change of residence, for someone the loss of a loved one, and for someone even just watching a strong film, it all depends on a particular person ... but I think such a situation, which is shown in the film, would make anyone change once and for all, just for everyone it would be a matter of time ... and change for what?! in order to finally understand. . .
I think this is the right end of the whole thing.
This film is also remembered for a rather good game of actors (for this genre), who are given a leading role in the film, and a good soundtrack, let there be almost one track, but what!! !
As a result of an unexpected impact on the city, the basement, which the prudent commandant of the house has equipped as a bunker in case of nuclear or other war, becomes a refuge for several people. Absolutely ordinary – a married couple, a single mother with a daughter, two brothers with a friend, such “cool guys”, but only cool in ordinary life, and now they are all in an unusual situation, and their life, accordingly, will also be unusual.
And then the thrash begins. But I liked the film more from the point of view of how in these circumstances - fear, the need to survive under the same roof with almost unfamiliar "neighbors", to share food and prove who is the strongest - the characters changed. As someone broke down and down, someone took leadership by force, and it intoxicated him, allowed him to do things that in ordinary conditions a person would not even think of. Despite all the blood and dirt, I really liked the movie from a psychological point of view.
And there is a gorgeous, in my opinion, the final, powerful puts a point.

Found this masterpiece as a horror film, which ' insert ' in full program. Not ' inserted ' and here's why.
1) Completely ill-conceived idea, simply no. It seems that by the beginning of filming, the director came up with only the beginning:' There should be people, and, in general, the apocalypse happened to them, and they are in the basement, about then, well, it is clear that the food will not be enough, well, and everyone will start to rage, and there, later, like a sweat' Well, and the end of course (spoiler will not):'To be more unexpected'.
2) Sound. More precisely, its overabundance. And too much epic. You know, when epic music and #39;natural' slow-motion special effects are repeated every 5 minutes of a movie, it becomes too much of a desire to knock out that ball.
(3) Completely undisclosed storylines. Let me explain why this section is separate from the idea. You see, it is one thing that goes on in the author's head, and quite another - on paper. And the fact is that in this case, he puts in the film less than in his head. Therefore, the plot is more confusing than the idea itself. Touched the line of politics and war? Open it up at least a little!! Or the love of the main character? Or any of the characters? Open them up, people!! But in order to less strain his convolutions, the author sent all the spectators. Thinking.
Note: There is a difference between undisclosed and interesting characters, in which case they are undisclosed. Regarding the actions and thoughts of interesting people, you can argue, talk, think, discuss them, about the undisclosed there will be only one thought:' And what was it at all?'
A few of the following:
1) Quality of the soundtrack. It’s really not bad, but throughout the film the same melody is boring.
2) Special effects and the work of operators.
Acting and to the pros and cons I do not want and can not relate - undisclosed characters did not give it to appreciate.
Predictability added a share of confusion and special effects - that's what turned out this masterpiece.
I can't say that about the ending. The ending, for me personally, is unexpected. But these 5 minutes of the film will not answer for 2 hours of my life killed.

Frenchman Xavier Jeans started his career very successfully - his full-length debut, the thriller "Border" paid off almost six times, and one of the co-producers was Luc Besson himself. Further - better, Jeans was offered to shoot the film adaptation of the computer game "Hitman", and let the reviews he received mixed, but the film paid off again, which means Xavier was back on the horse. But while the next high-profile projects in terms of the director is not brewing, he decided to shoot an independent film, which is, released in 2011 - om year, the thriller "The Separator", whose budget is only modest $ 3 million, and the title roles are listed Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Bean, Lauren German and Roseanne Arquette.
It was unexpected and scary. On an ordinary day, in an ordinary New York, in broad daylight there is a powerful explosion that destroys everything in its path. The only escape is the basement. Not everyone gets to him, only eight people, including a mother and daughter, two brothers and their friend, a couple Sam and Eva, and Mickey, who lives in the basement. What happened? Who's behind this? The survivors take their breath, sit in the corners. Not a day goes by as unknown, armed fighters in protective suits break into the door and their appearance is clearly not friendly.
Director Xavier Jeans managed to make a not bad psychological thriller with the effect of claustrophobia. It is no coincidence that the genre of the film is horror, because horror is not only when a bunch of monsters run after people, eating everything, no, people can create horror. Jeans is not afraid to bring cruelty to his tape - there is plenty of blood here, and some moments are really made very tough. There are almost no questions about directing, it is good, however, in my opinion, the timing is a bit large - in two hours the picture seems a little long, which knocks down the pace of a psychological thriller. The script by Carl Mueller and Aaron Sheehan is also very relevant and is an example of a decent thriller. Müller and Sheehan are so carried away with the development of the middle that they forgot about the beginning (the film begins directly with the action) and the ending, leaving a lot of questions - who are these guys in costumes? What are they doing here? Where did they even go afterwards? All these questions will remain unanswered, but the fact remains that the writers spent most of their time not on horror or fiction, but on psychology, which is responsible for most of the time. The writers make one of these films, which shows all the cruelty of a person, the dominance of one over the other, the dominance of the stronger over the weaker. The question of survival is another topic that the authors reveal, talking about it as the fact that a person will do anything to survive - betray, go over to the side of the dominant enemy, be his faithful dog. The script from the first minutes covers more desperate, grief, along the way developing into psychosis and a state of complete madness, the dying of reason. According to the development of the plot, even good people change beyond recognition - this is what the director perfectly caught and showed. All these soldiers may be the pretext and logical conclusion of a few moves, but they should have been given more time. The script is strong, interesting, the characters are spelled out well, but here’s what is missing. Operator Laurent Bares does not work poorly, and this is due not only to confident camera work, but also to the choice of ash colors, which have become more of a painting style, because the gloomy scenario is dominated by many dark shades. Sluggish composer Jean-Pierre Tayeb, who could his music to enhance the desired effect, but did not do it. It seems, on the one hand, it seems that the music here is simply not needed, but on the other it becomes clear the opposite – it is necessary to adhere to the appropriate rhythm of the thriller, giving out unexpected compositions that say that now something will happen, it would force the viewer to watch the film much brighter.
A well-chosen cast has famous actors such as Milo Ventimiglia or Michael Bean, as well as beginners (Abbie Tickson, Jennifer Blank). In such a film, it is extremely important to concentrate on your character, understand its psychological structure, understand it fully, every detail and multiply it by the atmosphere. Jeans coped with this, giving the right instructions, and the actors perfectly turned into their heroes. Most striking is the play of Milo Vantimiglia, who many know as a performer of the roles of kind people or a supporter of the bright side. Immediately, the actor shows the right mood and turns into a real monster, like his friend played by Michael Eklund. Michael Bean is also good in his role, even if he does not quite inspire confidence, the viewer will definitely worry about him in one moment. A good cast, producers not in vain invested their money in them, and the same game.
The film does not have world awards, but it boasts that it was shown at the film festival of horror and fiction in Toronto, and the picture of Jans took second place there. From the film festival in Sitges (International Film Festival in Catalonia), the film received an award for best makeup.
Total:
The Divideer is a movie worth watching for all fans of psychological thrillers. Good directing, not a bad script, confident professional work, as well as a very high-quality performance of the actors is guaranteed! Let Jeanse and the screenwriters have gone overboard with the genre, making the picture both fiction and a horror film, but its core is the thriller, where a number of unexpected turns and transformations are not excluded. This film is also worth watching because it has a few relevant themes. It is worth recommending to those who treat the film with dignity and understanding, fans of the cast and anyone who likes this film. Personally, I liked the film, but that’s what he lacked, and maybe it’s all the fault of timing or small jambs in the script, I don’t know. But for those who want to see a thoughtful movie, it is recommended to watch.
Thank you for listening!
To begin with, the film is very unusual. It turned all my expectations upside down, because I expected to see a banal picture with a happy ending. But I saw a very interesting film that made me think about a lot, which left a sediment in my soul.
An intriguing beginning, without long prefaces: Explosion, bunker, movie start. It does not make you bored, waiting for any action, as /#39; action & #39; you get from the first minutes of the film. I liked the movie because I couldn’t even imagine what would happen next. Here I sit, I think I can ' read' this film, but no, it gives me quite unexpected twists. The film makes you focus on the smallest details, think that they will lead to something.
Personally, I think that the film is a must-see for fans of unusual cinema, for fans ' tickle nerves', in a sense.
The film Divide takes as its basis the idea: “How will absolutely different people behave in a locked room from which there is no exit?” And I have to say, he did it. Every action of the heroes believe, and completely imbued with the atmosphere of despair. Does not make you relax a quality soundtrack. In total, the film spins one track 3-4 times, in the rest we have complete silence, thanks to this, the film looks on one breath and in full tension. It's a shame he's been underestimated. It's really a very strong movie. Many people do not understand, but want to understand.
9 from 10
A nuclear explosion and soldiers in radio defense suits and gas masks, a medical laboratory and a prosector countertop with a brown spot on the surface, alcoholized organs and containers with human hair - all this is also in the film, but not in the center, but in the background. “Diverser” is more of a drama, although it has all the formal signs of horror: the film scares, whipps up the atmosphere and generates the very painful expectation of horror, which is sometimes worse than the film itself – how many people will get out of bed there!
The film begins with a nuclear explosion in New York, which Eve looks at through the window of an apartment skyscraper. Twenty seconds of awareness and panic begins: the crowd, swinging, dropping and falling, grabbing others and getting stuck in narrow openings, runs down the stairs down - the very wild stampede begins when danger and uncertainty drives people into hiding at any cost and for everything for two minutes.
So, a small group of people managed to escape the explosion and radiation in the basement bunker. The basement is like a basement: intricate corridors, sufficiently lit and moderately gloomy rooms, a safe door. It is clear that the resources of the bunker are limited, water and food are not enough for everyone. Post-apocalypse is always the survival of some at the expense of others, sometimes literally. The course of events is predictable, the question is only who will die first, and who will survive and save the rest?
Young couple Eva and Sam (Lauren German and Ivan Gonzalez) – the film is not quite clear what exactly connects them, but first they stick together. Strong in spirit and vanilla in appearance, Eva and smear Sam, who was saved from the loss of human appearance only by the end of the film.
Mother with a seven-year-old daughter: Marilyn and Wendy (Roseanne Arquette and Abby Tickson) - the mother got the role of a torn victim of sexual psychosis (warning in the film there are naturalistic scenes of violence), and the girl, after the abduction, in the best traditions of man-made horrors, is shown in a transparent autoclave with a tube in the throat and eyes glued with a patch.
A group of young men. Two half-brothers: the “positive” against the background of the headless brother Adrian (Ashton Holmes) and the “negative” Josh (Milo Ventimiglia), who during the film degrades so that the image of a mutant harmoniously complements the essence of an unpredictable and dangerous psychopath, and the third man, a friend of the brothers, who broke and went wild like Josh, Bobby (Michael Eklund).
The owner of the bunker, Mickey (Michael Bean): loneliness, the American flag on the wall, deposits of canned goods and weapons betray in it an apocalypse fanatic who knew, waited and waited. Will it help him to survive at the present end of the world?
Delvin (Courtney B. Vance), an elderly, slightly paranoid man who trusts only himself and relies only on himself.
No way out. The safe door of the bunker outside is brewed tightly by the mysterious military, and in the bunker, a strong and violent egocentric Josh seizes resources and sets his own rules, as crazy as himself. It seems that there is no way out, but it is, even if it is a sewer.
The Separator could be another survival horror movie, but suddenly the film is humanly understandable and realistic, there is nothing more in it: no superheroes, no supervillains, they are the people who walk the streets today and live next to us. This is exactly what awaits all of us in the event of a nuclear catastrophe, except that the end is unlikely to be so optimistic.
This film is from the category of films that turn a person's gut. The aftertaste is not quite pleasant, and not quite unpleasant. the next day after watching you think, but what did the director want to say? What is the meaning of it? and does he have any sense at all? these questions are natural. because the scenes from the film are shocking in their absurdity. at the beginning of the film we see normal people, ordinary, such walk the streets in any city of the world. But what happens then, when they do not understand how long they begin to degrade, that's where I began to like the film.
I will not retell. but the meaning as it seemed to me is still there. it is like in the novel “The Idiot” by F. Dostoevsky.
Once upon a time there was a cockroach.
A cockroach from childhood.
And then I got into the glass.
It's full of fly-eaters. (roughly)
The conclusion is: “People, however terrible and terrible the life in which we are all involved, live peacefully and honestly, remain human and not beasts.” Or, if you want to go upstairs, want a better life, leaving your friends to die, betraying and slamming doors, then remember that there will be no way back. Something better? It may be that there is no better life. There's nothing there.

for the good performance of good actors, makeup and the fact that the director did not care about the aesthetic feelings of the audience.
Why, I decided to write a review for this film!
That’s because it was the first film of this genre, which is extremely imprinted in my memory. After watching this masterpiece, I fell in love with the genre of psychological thrillers / dramas like never before.
To this day, after watching a huge number of such films, this creation is always remembered.
What can be said about the film itself:
Psychology of the behavior of the characters and their actions, almost as close to reality as other similar films.
The atmosphere of everything that is happening is extremely exciting for the viewer.
The director and the actors did a very good job of conveying all the fear and horror that is happening in the bunker.
All the roles that fell to the characters of the film are predictable, but at the same time there were unexpected characters who surprised.
I am very glad that so little budget film, shot in just 4 walls, gave a sea of emotions and memories for many years.
After watching the film, there was a very bitter negative residue at heart. That’s great, because few movies can do that. Makes you wonder who or what is hiding behind people’s daily masks. What a person is capable of in extreme, dangerous or uncomfortable conditions. What does humanity mean? And who, after that, is actually a man?
I suggest! All fans of this genre are required to view.
PS: After the first viewing, I could not fall asleep for about 4 hours.

A typical post-apocalyptic film, where everyone in the end expects one fate. But if you are a lover of bald men in dirty underpants, then this film is for you!
From the very beginning of the film, I hated all the characters, no, it’s not about their game, it’s just all too good, it’s about the behavior these characters showed. All this progressive degradation, insanity, lack of cohesion, immoral behavior and inhumanity, all this is sprinkled with dismemberment, dirty sex, unexpected periods in an old woman, unsanitary conditions, as well as glimpses of radiation sickness. It showed everything from which I constantly had vomiting urges. Unacceptable? Yes, this is unacceptable to me, and I don’t even want to think that people can turn into such creatures. No film has ever made me write a review, but this one... Honestly, the feeling that I myself visited this bunker and from head to toe was doused with this shit, and now I need a portion of gentle, vanilla, pink, mimic cartoons.
The movie sucks? No, but forgetting it and never seeing it is what I need right now.

To begin with, the film doesn’t look like a big-budget production, it’s a cheap and angry story. In which there is no place for snot, so to speak, an acute social and eternal question.
What happens if you throw hungry rats in a barrel?
This is the question that sets us the beginning of the film, so that the viewer can see what can happen in such a situation. But it’s better to stay only in the movie, and in life that everything would be more positive.
So why would I urge you to watch it?
You have to watch it, at least to be horrified.
And here is the whole movie:
Plot:
The explosion of the atomic bomb, people run into the basement and ...
The visual part - I'll be honest, it plays a secondary role here. In the beginning, everything was done very qualitatively. To understand why it’s bad visually, look at the movie’s budget.
The cast:
More than three famous actors. (Michael Bean, Rosana Arquette, Milo Ventimelia) Of them, only two Bean and Ventimel come out separately, like Arquet does not look bad, it seems. The main character plays directly - a little weak.
Michael Eklund is less well written thanks to the script, but he also lacks tear.
Because of all this, I can assure you The script here has a huge potential, the strongest, develops very strongly, but can not shoot in the head. How to say the script is weak.
Xavier Jeans shot before that, in fact, mainly the films of the series “Bloody Massacre” and so far there is no serious experience.
What Jans really managed was to competently present the atmosphere and mood - depressive and hopeless. The operator has no complaints at all, and the music that divides your consciousness will remain in your memory for a long time.
Outcome You should definitely try to watch it.
In fact, at first I was skeptical about this film, because the title made me sad. Of course, I understand that this is not a literal title, but the film, first of all, I evaluate the title. Let's say I miss this criterion. The title in this masterpiece does not affect the content.
I want to get straight to the point. I was impressed by the actors... That's great! I cannot put into words my delight. The emotions of the heroes are played delightfully. It's short and clear. Well-chosen light transmission can not but delight. Everything was shot professionally, judging by the volume of space in such a studio, I can say that it is very difficult to shoot so well in such a box. Special applause for the operator, super! Selected images for the characters are also expensive. Music-in-the-me, to confess, immediately after the film I found the soundtracks and listened to them 5 times, another plus of the film.
As for the plot itself... Decent. Too good, I would say. That's brilliant. I came across this film by accident, but now it has turned my worldview around. The tagline says exactly what happens in the movie. A bunch of seemingly normal people gradually turn into zombies who demand things they don’t understand. The only drawback, in my opinion, is too frank and violent scenes of violence. But, this genre of error can be forgiven. In the end, I can’t say anything negative about this film, but...

Hoping to see a tightly knit thriller, I decided to watch the movie The Separator. Moreover, after watching the movie “Death labyrinth” was entitled to expect something similar in a good way. But my hopes were not fulfilled. In fact, Xavier Jans turned out to be terrible and disgusting. But the beginning of the tape, did not promise anything bad. In fact, I liked the beginning. It harbored intrigue and mystery. But what happened near the middle of the picture didn’t fit into my head, let alone the end of the story. The ending is premersacoustic. Now let's go.
Somewhere out there, let’s think that in America, probably it is, there was an explosion of unprecedented magnitude. It happens. The explosion occurred in a building in New York. Let's say. People naturally broke down to jump out onto the street. It wasn't here. Radiation. It became necessary to hide in a basement called a bunker. So far, so good. Xavier Jeans shows us one hell of a tough guy who looks like Clint Eastwood. This same uncle took power into his own hands among those who ran to the rescue bunker. Why exactly? So he actually was there, was something like a gatekeeper or a watchman. But he looks serious. I need to make a little clarification here. Mickey, our hero's name, plays Michael Bean. And he plays great. Probably the only bright spot from the movie. Factual, brutal, recognizing no one and nothing but his own truth. In general, one hundred percent hit in the image.
But then you expect people to either come together to save themselves and get out of this situation, or there will be natural selection. The director leaned toward the latter. This option has the right to exist. But even further, Xavier just drifted and it was impossible to stop. Here you have a beautiful, not yet old woman with a child, who either lost her mind or showed her secret desires. What did she do? She just gave up on everything and began to have sex with two scumbags, who by then had seized the reins in this bunker. It got to the point that they shaved naked, put on makeup like women and began to make up various obscenities. That's gross. I don’t believe that people behave in this way. Just the director decided to knock everyone out or shock, it's who, as much as he likes. There was really one girl who resisted all the atrocities, but even this character is not fully revealed and not revealed, so does not save the film. The result was complete stench and horror. How you might like it, I honestly don’t know. And why is the film called the divider? What does he share with Monsieur Xavier Jeans? If the grain is from the chaff, then the attempt, frankly speaking, turns into a real torture and torture for the beholders. Forget, don't watch, and period!
I accidentally came across this movie. Without thinking about anything, I looked at it. And you know what? I fell in love with him!
At first glance, this is a banal apocalyptic film. But what made me happy is that we are not dealing with a typical nuclear disaster and people who are supposed to survive and live happily ever after. Nope. According to the plan of the creators, they should not understand the reason for the nuclear bombing, stop the war or anything like that. It's about people who are in the back, and sooner or later they have to die.
Some unwarranted protracted actions irritate, but more than compensated by excellent acting. They perfectly showed the evolution of the character of each character in such difficult circumstances. The only thing that is difficult to understand is in what period of time all these events occur.
Of course, in this film, not everything is so beautiful, neat and pleasant to the eye, but this becomes even worse, because people placed in such conditions will remain in their minds.
And of course the ending. I have always loved the endings of this plan. They give you the opportunity to think something, to think something, so that you begin to think about the film, immersed in philosophical reasoning.
P.S.
Separately, I would like to mention the music, because the soundtracks are simply gorgeous.
The film can be praised primarily for its unconventional nature. The plot of the truth often pleased with unexpected twists and realistic scenes. Screenwriters managed to avoid quite a lot of clichés characteristic of films of this genre. At least one big flaw that spoiled the overall impression was present. From the very beginning it was obvious that the main character can not worry.
While the men turned into monkeys, splitting into either stupid, violent alpha males or pathetic reptiles omegas (or the alpha brothers, who walk like restless shadows throughout the film). She always managed to keep her composure and look at the situation soberly, which, of course, is a common characteristic of the female character. While the men were hysterical, panicking, playing games for social attention, she calmly assessed the situation and made the only right and fair decisions. Having spent so much time in the company of the five men who had long since lost the touch of their civilized gallantry, none of them, of course, even tried against their will to seize her until she herself showed the desire. The only thing that could be accused of the main character is that she thought for so long that these animals are worthy of a female life.
But, by the end of the film, she finally realized that a woman is a creature much more worthy of life, that she is independent and can take care of herself.
