Robert Francis Vaughn. Robert Vaughn was born in Manhattan, but grew up in Minnesota and marched straight from acting classes to the set of the film No Time to Be Young. Although his third film earned him an Oscar nomination, Robert couldn’t break into the Hollywood starry sky until 1964, when he signed on to play the super-cool undercover agent in The Man From UNCLE. He vowed never to appear on television again, but in 1972 he played The Protectors again.
