Peter Weir is an Australian film director, born on 21 August 1944 in Sydney. His childhood and youth were spent in Australia. After graduation, the young man entered the University of Sydney as a lawyer, but dropped out at the age of 19. He decided to go into the family business and follow in the footsteps of his father, a real estate specialist. But he quickly realized that this was not his destiny. With the first money earned, Peter bought a ticket for a transoceanic steamer and went to travel around the world.
Already on board the steamer, Peter, to kill time, created an amateur troupe of passengers and staged performances that were unexpectedly successful with the audience. Having landed in London, he did not fail to continue this work. Moreover, while still a student, Peter began to try the pen, creating plays for student plays. He realized that he had found his calling, and took a small position as a clerk in a theater agency. Here Peter got his first experience in show business.
After returning as a married man to his homeland in 1966, Peter continued to write for the theater, at the same time earning extra money by whomever he had to. In Australia, he made his first films, documentaries and shorts, and picked up a camera for the first time. In 1971, he won a government grant. Peter returned to Europe, where he made a film.

More recent work, such as
The Truman Show "Residence Permit", "Master of the Seas", continue to develop the themes of nature, interpenetration and antagonism of different cultures. Pictures have been repeatedly nominated for the highest awards in the field of cinema, including the Oscar. But, unfortunately, Weir never won this film award.
Since 2003, Peter has not created any of his paintings. Currently, he occasionally performs in Hollywood as a producer and screenwriter.
