Laura Linney was born on February 5, 1964 in the family of the famous playwright Romulus Linney and Miriam Anderson "Anne" Pierce. Laura's mother was a nurse at a cancer clinic. When Laura was a year old, her parents divorced, Linney stayed with her mother in a small one-room apartment.

After graduating from high school, Laura entered Northwestern University, and then transferred to Brown University. In 1986 she was awarded the status of Bachelor of Arts. But she did not stop there and continued her studies in New York at one of the most prestigious acting schools – the Juilliard School. Her film career began in 1992, when Laura starred in the film Lorenzo's Oil. In the film, her partners were Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon. After that, she took part in many television projects, but there she had only supporting roles.
In the 1990s, Laura Linney accepted offers to star in several famous thrillers, but the real fame in the vastness of Hollywood came to her after filming in the fantastic comedy The Truman Show. There she played Jim Carrey's wife. In 2000, Laura was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in You Can Count on Me. Laura is known for her roles in dramatic films subtle and clear transmission of emotions and feelings of her heroines.
