Billy Wilder was born in a small town called Suha, Poland, on June 22, 1906, into a Jewish family. The family was quite wealthy and owned a whole network of hotels. He studied Billy after school at the University of Vienna at the Faculty of Law, but after the first year he dropped out and became an employee of one of the local newspapers. He studied Billy after school at the University of Vienna at the Faculty of Law, but after the first year he dropped out and became an employee of one of the local newspapers.
Since 1920 he worked in Berlin as a journalist, there he began to write scripts for silent films. From 1929 to 1933, according to the scripts of Billy, the films “The Man Who Searched for His Killer” and “Emile and the Detectives” were staged.
When the Nazis came to power, Billy Wilder emigrated first to France, and then to the United States.
He came to Los Angeles without money, he did not know English, so the first years he lived very poor. During this difficult time, he wrote the scripts for the films Midnight.
Delay the dawn. In 1938 there was a turning point in the career of a screenwriter: Billy Wilder met Charles Brackett. After that, they collaborated for several years, as a result of which a number of great scripts and even hits of American cinema were published:
Ninochka "World of Fire" et al. In 1942, the friends expanded their field of activity and began directing.
Billy himself made his debut in 1942 as a picture.

Then Wilder became the most popular director of Hollywood due to the deliberate selection of the script, the accuracy of replicas, the utmost attention to the plot and in-depth work with the cast.
Among the director's works there are films awarded the Oscar: "Apartment", "Sunset Boulevard" and "Lost Weekend".
