He was born on December 11, 1939, in Novosibirsk.
In 1963 he graduated from VGIK (scenario faculty). In 1970 he graduated from the Higher Courses of Directors and Screenwriters at VGIK (directing faculty). Author of scripts for a number of documentary and feature films.
Leading Russian playwright and public figure. One of the creators of the Open Russian Animated Film Festival, known as "Tarusa". Head of the Animators Club at the Moscow Film Museum. The debut of Vladimir Golovanov in animation is the famous, witty extravaganza “Film, film, film”, created in collaboration with F. Khitruk. Then he worked a lot with the director N. Golovanova (first wife), who shot for young viewers. Among the best films of this period: “Jiharka”, “The Girl and the Bear”, “Winter of Animals”, “The Selfish Giant”, “Porridge Pot”, “Mrs. Vinegar and Mr. Vinegar”. The heroes of these fairy tales do not speak a template language, break the traditional idea of the language of children's narratives. Unexpectedness, sometimes absurdity of certain situations in the smooth, it would seem, course of the plot - Golovanov's favorite horse in further works. He writes scripts on folk epics and world-famous literary works, participates in bold projects to create grandiose animated events and TV series (Optimus Mundus, “Neznaika on the Moon”, “Multipotam”).
Vladimir Golovanov is a regular author of the scripts of the films M. Muat (second wife): “Ancient lyrics”, “Beautiful Margaret and Cherry Flay”, “Kings and cabbage”.
