Dirk Bogarde was born on March 28, 1921. His father was a Dutch artist and his mother an actress. The creativity of parents had a great influence on the future fate of the future actor.
In 1937 he entered the Royal College of Art. He had excellent teachers, among whom he was most grateful to Henry Moore.
When World War II broke out, Dirk went to the front. He had to fight both in Europe and in the Far East.
After the war, Bogard returned to London and devoted himself entirely to theatrical activities.
Rank was looking for new faces at the time. And Dirk looked up. Those who bet on him did not miscalculate - since 1949, the actor has been actively removed, he is offered several roles a year, and his popularity with each new role is gaining momentum.
Fans did not give passage to their pet, were on duty at night under the windows of his house.
For almost ten years, since 1955, the actor has continuously starred in the same role. This almost leads to severe depression. But fame did its job, and over time, he was able to choose his own roles. He was loved by the audience for the films “The Doctor’s Dilemma”, “Angel in Red”, “Dear”, “Infinite Song” and others.
For many years he was considered the most popular English actor, but world fame comes to him only in 1963 thanks to the roles of American director Joseph Lowsey, Italian director Luchino Visconti and Liliane Covani.
The final international recognition brought him roles.
"Servant" "Death in Venice" and "The Night Porter".
In 1977, Bogard published his memoir A Postillon Struck by Lightning. For many, he remained a very mysterious person. After leaving the cinema relatively early, he retired to his villa, where he wrote memoirs, short stories, essays.
On May 8, 1999, he died of a heart attack. /
