This film is the second installment (of five) of Igor Shadkhan and Svetlana Voloshina’s project Test for Adults (the first 16-year television observation of children and their parents in the USSR, 1978-1994). There are six television short stories, each dedicated to one of the children who are 10 years old at the time of shooting: Artyom, Julia, Pavel, Alyosha, Sveta, and Alexey. The authors are interested in the psychological portrait of children. The intimate nature of the interview and the delicacy of the interviewer allows them to touch upon difficult topics – loneliness in the hospital, the child’s experiences of parental divorce, the existential fears of children, leadership, attitudes, etc. close

Documentary series “The Great Patriotic War: Liberation of Ukraine” Liberation of Belarus, shot by Igor Geleyn and Lev Danilov, consists of two main parts. The first part is devoted to the liberation of Ukraine, which was occupied by the Nazis in 1941-1943 and in which more than 714 cities and villages and 16,000 industrial enterprises were destroyed. On November 6, 1943, the Soviet troops of the First Ukrainian Front, after a long and bloody battle, liberated Kiev and created a strategic bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper.
The second part is devoted to the liberation of Belarus, in which the punitive operations of the fascist troops were the most sophisticated and cruel. Thus, according to historians, every fourth inhabitant of this country was destroyed during the fascist occupation, and if it were not for the Soviet troops that liberated Belarus in the summer of 1944 and moved to East Prussia, it is unknown whether this country would be on the map now. close

This is a documentary on the 70's French porn industry. There are generally two kinds of porn documentaries--those that actually take an insightful look behind the scenes, and those that are just an excuse to show a lot of nudity and XXX porn footage. This is actually somewhere in between. It's generously seasoned with porn footage, but there are also a lot of (fully-clothed) interviews, and they even talk to the owners of porn theaters, some typical porn customers (including some pre-adolescent boys who are walking by the the theater--I wonder what their parents thought of that?), as well as a guy who makes promotional billboards for porn movies although he claims never to have seen one! close

Documentary Igor Gelein and Ilya Gutman "The Great Patriotic: from the Balkans to Vienna. The Liberation of Poland was created in 1978, when the history of the Great Victory was perceived and read in the USSR and abroad quite differently than it is now – closer to the truth, fuller, sharper. The witnesses were still alive, their memory was still clear and unforgiving.
The painting consists of two separate parts. The first episode, titled “From the Balkans to Vienna,” chronicles the successful Red Army operations that were undertaken to liberate southeastern Europe. The events of the second part take place in early 1944, from January to April, when Soviet soldiers liberated Poland, which lost more than six million lives during the Second World War. . . close

The co-founder of the Gamma press agency, Raymond Depardon, created this documentary of press photographers in Paris and their subjects by following the photographers around for one month, in October, 1980. In-between long hours waiting for a celebrity to emerge from a restaurant or a hotel, boredom immediately switches to fast action as the cameras click and roll when the person appears. The reaction to the gaggle of photographers is as varied as the people they often literally chase all around town. While some of the celebrities, such as Jacques Chirac who was mayor of Paris at the time, are perceived as comical caricatures, others are shown simply going about ordinary pursuits - including Catherine Deneuve, Gene Kelly, and Jean-Luc Godard. close

This short film is Godard’s message to the people of Lausanne, specifically journalist and critic Freddy Buache, addressing his reasons why he will not make a film about their town’s 500th anniversary. Rather than cynical or defensive, Godard's bemused narration of the footage of Lausanne is imaginative and even playful, a rumination on cinema's possibilities. close
