Documentary on Fritz Bauer humanist lawyer, in Germany during the sixties, whose main objective in the few trials achieved against Nazi criminals was whether they were capable of repentance. In this documentary we can sadly see how the entire German judicial system protected with its laws and glosses of these many who committed criminal acts during the period of national socialism where the Holocaust took place, in which 6 million Jews were exterminated. Very probably Bauer's death was a murder that went unpunished by this same corrupted judicial system. close

Shin Dong-Huyk was born on November 19, 1983 as a political prisoner in a North Korean re-education camp. He was a child of two prisoners who had been married by order of the wardens. He spent his entire childhood and youth in Camp 14, in fact a death camp. He was forced to labor since he was six years old and suffered from hunger, beatings and torture, always at the mercy of the wardens. He knew nothing about the world outside the barbed-wire fences. At the age of 23, with the help of an older prisoner, he managed to escape. For months he traveled through North Korea and China and finally to South Korea, where he encountered a world completely strange to him. close

In 2004, director Michael Kloft (The Goebbels Experiment) accompanied government historians and surveyors as they inspected various underground tunnels, bunkers, and silos built by the Nazis between 1940 and 1945. Some, mainly in Germany and occupied Poland, were built as shelters to house high-ranking Nazi officials like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, and Martin Bormann. Others, in the northern coast of occupied France, were constructed by Armaments Minister Albert Speer to serve as massive missile silos to launch V2 rocket attacks against London and, eventually, the United States. Interviews with surviving slave laborers and SS officials tell the story of how and why these tunnels were built. (from dvdverdict.com) close

Europe in the 1920s and 1930s is a continent licking its wounds after the devastating First World War, on the brink of economic crisis, and shattered by refugee flows from revolutions and civil war, marked by a refusal to accept these desperate people: fertile ground for disagreements with fragile new democracies and the rise of authoritarian regimes. Meanwhile, there are striking similarities — the rise of the far right, the turn of democracies toward “illiberal” regimes, the shaky foundations of our financial system. Can the past contain warnings for the present? The series chronicles a complex sequence of events that led to the emergence of a new administration and allowed violence and brutality to unfold on an incredible scale. This is a view of history that has a direct bearing on today’s world. close
