For centuries, Peru was home to highly developed civilizations of the Andes. Here, the Inca kings, worshipping the sun, ruled a huge empire that stretched for more than three thousand kilometers at the foot of the mountains of South America. In 1532 it was destroyed by the Spanish. Fleeing from their crumbling world, the upper class of the Incas found shelter in the hidden jungle of inaccessible mountain ranges. Here, in the last city of the Incas, Vilcabamba, they tried to preserve their traditions. Going in search of Vilcabamba in 1911, a young scientist Hiram Bingham made one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century: he discovered the majestic ruins of Machu Picchu, which told the world about the former glory of the Inca civilization.

Honey, We're Killing the Kids is the name of a BBC television series in which parents are shown the consequences of poor parenting. The program shows more
Honey, We're Killing the Kids is the name of a BBC television series in which parents are shown the consequences of poor parenting. The program shows computer-generated images and technology of what their children may look like as adults if they continue with their present life-style, dietary and exercise habits. The name of this show is a parody of the name from Disney's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movies and TV series.
First, a family with issues relating to their parenting, dietary and exercise habits is introduced. Then, the children are examined by physicians and psychologists, and every aspect of their eating habits and physical activity is analysed by an expert team. Then, the parents are shown what their children may look like by taking present-day photos of them and age-progressing the photos with a computer year by year until age forty. The parents are frequently brought to tears when presented with the likelihood of their children's unhappy future appearance and significantly reduced life expectancy.
Some traits are exaggerated for effect. Highly variable traits such as clothes, hairstyles, jewelry, eyeglasses, facial hair, and so forth are added to the computer generated images based on guesses by the show at the social and educational impact current poor parenting may have on the children's future lives. These guesses at highly variable traits are swayed depending on the outcome predicted by the show's child experts based upon the likely life expectancy, state of health and emotional stability of the children. Bad haircuts and glasses may be used for the before version while the after version has the computer generated images smiling and wearing a suit. Another example, in the premier TLC episode, an eight-year-old boy was given a mullet, an earring, nerdy-looking eyeglasses, and a soul patch at age fifteen. In another episode, an eight-year-old girl was given a bad case of acne as she went through her teenage years. Rosacea, obesity, tooth decay, and hair loss also seem to be common ailments added to the age-progression. These guesses at personal traits are present in all episodes to dramatise the harmful physical, emotional effects of a poor diet and poor parenting, and the major impact the show's experts say these are likely to have on the children's future well being. close

Australia is the only continent where in the wild there is an amazing, incomparable animal kangaroo, growing in a bag on the stomach of its mother. These herbivores live in small herds and lead mainly evening and nocturnal lives, hiding during the day. Being heroes of ancient sea stories and modern movies, killer whales have always instilled in the hearts of people feelings of fear and sympathy. Scientific research in wild nature has helped to create a more realistic portrait of these mammals with a well-developed intelligence, living in a community with a complex code of rules. A variety of animals in the marine reserve of Monterey Bay in California attracts killer whales, which are considered the main predators in the world ocean. They refer to the so-called “passing” individuals, so “as of all carnivorous schooling animals on the Earth, they are most elusive and difficult to study.” Orcas of the “passing” species hunt closely united families, separately from other orcas, overcoming vast distances in search of prey. And only now we have the opportunity to get acquainted with the fascinating details of the life of these majestic and elusive predators. close

Documentary series (United Kingdom, 2004), 7 episodes.
Terry Jones, as always incendiary and humorous, talks about the inhabitants of medieval Britain - from peasant to king - their way of life and views.
Episode 1. Peasant. About how the plague epidemic led to the enrichment of peasants and their uprising.
Episode 2. Monk. The life of a monk, protected from the vain world, seems to be an ideal of simplicity and piety. The main task of the monk is prayer and work. But the medieval church could not avoid the influx of ministers pursuing their own personal selfish goals.
Episode 3. Minstrel. Being a minstrel in the Middle Ages meant more than just playing and singing. Minstrels had to play many roles: entertain the owners, raise the attack of soldiers, even spy. These medieval cheerleaders were not as carefree as they seem.
Episode 4. Knight. Knighthood is the personification of courage, loyalty to duty, nobility towards a woman. Were these the knights of the Middle Ages? What was knighthood in its heyday?
Episode 5. Alchemist. The Middle Ages are considered a time of ignorance and superstition: the Church suppressed the desire for knowledge, medicine killed rather than cured, and people did not know what shape the Earth was. But what really happened? Maybe we just don't know the past well?
Episode 6. Robber. Legends have brought to us stories of noble forest robbers who personified the hope of justice for the medieval poor. Was the law so inaccessible to the common man? What was the legal system in medieval England?
Episode 7. King. There are many dubious facts in history. What do we know about medieval kings? Richard the Lionheart is a hero, connoisseur of art, Christian. Richard II is a narcissistic tyrant suffering from megalomania. Richard III is an evil and demonic hunchback. Is that true? The film attempts to dispel legends and myths created over the centuries.
Episode 8. Girl. About what was supposed to be a girl in the Middle Ages, and about the principles of morality that should be observed by young women. close
