This remarkable animated documentary traces the unconventional upbringing of the filmmaker Jung Henin, one of thousands of Korean children adopted by more
This remarkable animated documentary traces the unconventional upbringing of the filmmaker Jung Henin, one of thousands of Korean children adopted by Western families after the end of the Korean War. It is the story of a boy stranded between two cultures. Animated vignettes – some humorous and some poetic – track Jung from the day he first meet his new blond siblings, through elementary school, and into his teenage years, when his emerging sense of identity begins to create fissures at home and ignite the latent biases of his adoptive parents. The filmmaker tells his story using his own animation intercut with snippets of super-8 family footage and archival film. The result is an animated memoir like no other: clear-eyed and unflinching, humorous, and above all, inspiring in the capacity of the human heart. close

During World War II, a teenage Jewish girl named Anne Frank and her family are forced into hiding in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands, as she keeps a diary of the next few years. NOTE: This is a French *edited* version of the 1995 original anime film by Akinori Nagaoka, which is listed as some minutes longer (102, while the France edit is cut down to 88). The edited version also replaced the original musical score with a more orchestral soundtrack. First shown in 1999 via festivals (some with an English dub), then released on DVD in 2000 with French audio & English subtitles, it took a while for an official English dub to be released next, but a trailer was posted on YouTube in April of 2015. The edited film with an English-audio dub was finally made available for free on YouTube as of May 2020. The "original" title in the info on TMDB is incorrectly in English but locked; the English should be in the "translated title" spot. It's in French on a poster though: Le Journal d'Anne Frank. close

The international project of 8 short films was dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the popular American artist Edward Hopper (1882-1967), a prominent representative of American genre painting, one of the largest urbanists of the XX century. Anger, resentment, or alienation between a man and a woman are Hopper’s constant themes. Hopper envisions loneliness without sympathy or support—absolute, sinister, endless loneliness. In Hopper’s paintings, even sunsets are lonely, and streets, and houses, and people, and even couples, especially couples. close
