A wonderful film that received 11 Oscar nominations and won 5 gold statuettes. To some, the film may seem boring, too long, and even just uninteresting, but in my opinion this is one of the best films in history.
Acting game:
I keep wondering which of Martin Scorsese’s three films DiCaprio played best. The Gangs of New York drop off immediately. It was completely eclipsed by Daniel DeLewis. There are "Aviator" and "Departed". It’s hard to compare the roles of Hughes and Costigan, but the fact remains that the role of Hughes was much more complicated, in the facial expressions of the character, in his character, in that he almost went crazy by the end of his life. I think DiCaprio's role was a complete success. Deservedly received a Golden Globe, for Best Actor, and an Oscar nomination in the same category. And those twitching cheekbones of Hughes' face were a success. In general, the highest score of his game.
Screenplay:
I knew almost nothing about the life of Howard Hughes or his films. The plot turned out very interesting. I don't know how trustworthy he is with Howard's real life, but I think he is. Especially when it comes to the movie Hell’s Angel. I saw the movie after The Aviator, and then I saw Scarface, also by Howard Hughes. So I discovered a new director. In general, as far as I know, this film was shot for the centenary of Howard Hughes, but unfortunately it came out a year earlier. In general, a worthy film for the anniversary.
Directing:
Again, it's hard to pick the best Scorsese film shot in DiCaprio-Scorsese tandem. But I think in terms of directing, the best movie is Gangs of New York. But given that these are completely different films, I will not compare them. This is not a typical film for Scorsese. There is not a single killed protagonist, unlike his past and subsequent works. But considering that this is still a biographical film, he succeeded in everything. And the shot, when, about 45 minutes of the film, when Hughes' plane crashes into the field, is generally fascinating.
In general, in my opinion, it turned out to be one of the best biographical films... It is one of the best films in general, but I will not recommend it to anyone, at least for the reason that this film is for a certain circle of people. For example, when watching almost all my friends did not like the film. He seemed to them very boring, protracted, uninteresting, and besides there still DiCaprio plays, who was attached to the unpleasant stigma after “Titanic”. One in ten people might like this movie. I am very glad that I am such a person.
