However, if you approach the film as a work of art, then it can be safely recommended for viewing. It reliably reflects the opposition of secular and church authorities, the feelings and motives of the heroes, their dialogues in the spirit of classical theater are interesting. Peter O'Toole and Richard Barton are beautiful, especially if their duo see first the story of the conditional king and his friend the chancellor, and then the archbishop, rather than the historical Henry II and Becket. It’s also a good start to finally understand their story from other sources.
