To kill or to betray? It was worth it.
The comments are quite contradictory, not foreshadowing anything special. The fact that this is the 2nd part of the masterpiece “The Lion King” (10 of 10), also did not inspire confidence. Sequels – they are usually such sequels. So I sat down to watch without any hope, just to know how they got there.
Perhaps it was the contrast of expectations and reality that played a role, but the film unexpectedly liked it.
(1) Level picture: backgrounds, characters and contours. Stressed trifles: reflections in the water, the composition of some frames is not spectacular (especially panoramas with many animals), sometimes background animation is weak.
2) The plot is intriguing and the topic raised is very interesting. The idea of the first part – “The Circle of Life” – here continues in a new context, the question of choosing between “black and white” is raised.
The central character, the lion Kovu, the heir to Scar (Scara), was raised from childhood for Simba's vengeance. And now before Kova Dillem: according to the ideals of his pride, kill Simba, or betray his native pride for love. Maybe there's a third way. . .
If in the first part some find analogies with "Hamlet", in the second part - something from "Romeo and Juliet" (but not so tragic).
(3) Musical inserts are generally good, the style of the original is observed, but the spirit is somewhat weaker. There is no enthusiasm for "Circle Of Life," with Timon and Pumbaa cheating on their "Hakuna Matata." Another very controversial musical episode - with the monkey Rafiki - and if in general her image is well spelled out (cunning wise monkey shaman), then the song was accompanied by some too stoned picture :) - torn out of style.
Compared to the original... The original is in the history of cinema, forever. The 2nd part will not go down in the history of cinema, but it is worth thanking the creators for the fact that they tried hard to withstand the bar of quality. They understood that comparisons with a masterpiece are inevitable.
For the plot - a separate "+1".
7 out of 10. "Look at least once."
