Attack!!! Theatrical critic Mortimer Brewster had just married, although he wrote a “bachelor’s bible,” came home to say goodbye to his aunts and say he was leaving for Neogar Falls, but something prevented him from doing so. What is it? You will find out after watching.
In general, this, in my opinion, is one of the best films of “early cinema” and one of the best comedies in general, the number of funny situations per minute of time is simply off the charts. But what makes this movie so funny?
First, the plot. It's very entertaining here, and it's about more and more episodes. Then he came, found out that the aunts were crazy, then his cousin, who thought that he was the President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt, blows a pipe, which pretty annoys the neighbors, then brother Jonathan and ... so on, on and on. In general, the idea of the director is very good, to combine all everyday and social problems in one day, although this is often seen in later cinema, but here it is clearly expressed, and even in a comedic form.
Secondly, these are brilliantly played roles of all plans. And there's the wonderful Cary Grant, one of my favorite actors, and at the peak of his popularity, perhaps his best role. So clearly convey the horror of the force majeure situation ... perhaps he is best at it. And it is not even in his constantly bulging eyes, but in his actions. A person can do this only out of deep excitement, and Carey clearly conveyed this on the screen. There are two absolutely wonderful female roles, the crazy aunts of Mortimer. And perhaps my favorite character in this movie is Jonathan Brewster. Man is Frankenstein, but without nuts in his temples. The darkest image of this film, gives color to the thriller in a solid laugh. And, of course, Teddy Roosevelt, with his "Attack!!!", well, God, the funniest moments of the film are connected with him. It is said that it is not good for the sick to laugh, but... The only thing I didn’t like about this film was the images of the policemen, which turned out to be a bit stupid, but this is probably only at the end of the film, and at the beginning there are no complaints.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the movie for everyone with a sense of humor. I will not say that this is a masterpiece, but one of the key moments in the comedy branch of cinema is for sure.
