The great series This is the feeling after watching season 3.
In 'Boys' behind layers of thrash, irony and ultraviolence hide such deep human stories and non-standard for modern American TV series socio-political messages.
To begin with, the Boys are a critique of modern (primarily Western) society. It shows corporations that, with the help of money, can control almost everyone, politicians, public opinion (through the media), and their own employees. Very funny and witty (and a little sad) shows how corporations use important topics for American society (for example, the fight against racism) to raise their ratings, while being absolutely indifferent to them.
Also here ridicule all the standard stamps from the superhero films DS and Marvel. And it's very funny every time. Superheroes who don't care about people who only care about their ratings. Parodies of specific characters (what is underwater, the analogue of Aquaman, who experiences a sexual attraction to octopuses). All this shows that the superhero genre is alive and still has a lot to show us.
But that's not even the most important thing about the Boys. It's a drama about family relationships. About the traumas of people who had tough parents (or none at all), and how it affected their entire lives, leaving deep wounds. Homelander (the main villain in this story) is built around the fact that he had no parents, and now he is in dire need of love and recognition. And Butcher (one of the protagonists) is afraid to become the same as his cruel father, but due to circumstances becomes more and more like him.
Great acting adds 100 points to each dialogue and interaction of the characters. The way Anthony Starr plays Homelander, it’s the best acting I’ve seen in TV shows. To convey such a spectrum of emotions and experiences with the help of eyes, mouth movements and facial muscles, this is some extreme level.
It is a great merit of the Boys that all the main characters in it are very well written and cause sympathy. Almost every dramatic scene in season 3 brought me to tears, it is interesting to watch the path of all the characters.
There’s another topic that has touched me personally this season. It is a matter of fighting good against evil. Can good defeat evil by using only “good methods” and remaining good? Is it possible to compete with an enemy who is unconstrained when you yourself are constrained by morality and law? You will not get an answer to this question.
Boys are a breath of fresh air, which drives into longing and inspires hope, laughs and makes you cry. One of the best projects on television in recent years. I'm looking forward to season 4.
