Boxer Davey Gordon stood up for dancer Gloria Preece when she was attacked by her employer and lover Vincent Rapallo. This event brings them together, and they become inseparable from each other, thus causing resentment from Rapallo. He hires people to kill Davey. But it's not Davey who's mistakenly killed, it's his buddy. Trying to escape Rapallo’s revenge, Gordon and Gloria decide to flee the city.
Like Kubrick's next film, Murder, Kiss of a Murderer is a noir movie. The film was shot in a strictly criminal framework. Although it only runs for more than an hour (like Murder), there are many interesting events in it.
To be honest, this film reminded me not so much of Kubrick’s films as of Alfred Hitchcock’s many thrillers. Well, judge for yourself: mysterious, sinister music, a bit of a thriller plot. I would not say that there is an unexpected outcome, after all, the genre does not imply this, but, nevertheless, some feeling de ja vu was / b>. Although there is nothing in common, the film somehow reminded me of Strangers on a Train. And of course the final chase... Although, as far as I remember, Hitchcock did not have anything like this in the filmography, at least from what I watched, but everything was so tense, just like watching his films.
The film is worth seeing only true fans of Kubrick, who I am. For the rest of us, it will have no value. He has a better film, Murder, about the same topic, so it’s better to start with it, just like I did.
