Expendable 2 The change of director, of course, affected the presentation of the sequel, but Dean Parisot, along with the writers of the original film, managed to maintain the overall spirit, atmosphere and style, presenting a cool sequel to a cool action comedy. An alternative variation of "The Expendables", where around Bruce Willis run not Chak Norissa with terminators, but people like John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, for the second time turns out to be a killer and incendiary picture.
Unfortunately, not only Morgan Freeman did not return from the first picture, but also, for example, the very cool Carl Urban. Instead of him, the cool guy who follows the trail of Frank and company is played by Neil McDonough, who does this task perfectly. But here is a parallel mercenary - Lee Byung-hon in the plot was completely unnecessary and unnecessary, absolutely did not manifest itself in the climax, and suitable only for an additional couple of fights. His lauded coolness often causes only a shrug, could take on such at least an Asian with charisma, such as a partner from the Green Hornet and the adventures of Harold and Kumar.
The action has become many times more, the humor has decreased a little, and in many ways it has become more vulgar and concentrated below the belt. Nevertheless, the first half of the film is still replete with masterful rusty dialogues and extremely funny comic situations, preserving the manner of the first picture, and then presenting more than a few fun scenes and jokes. The number of visual cues that make the film memorable has also increased. There is even a mega-masterpiece “scene-on the contrary”, if in the first “RED” the hero of Willis mega-coolly got out of the wheelbarrow on the move from the turn, then in the “RED-2” he sits in the same mega-cool way in the same situation in the car.
The team of heroes remained the same: unkillably cool Bruce Willis and his adventurous beauty Mary-Louise Parker, paranoid psycho John Malkovich, Russian Brian Cox and an armed pensioner on a very active holiday Helen Mirren. Everyone is still beautiful and cool. Willis, for the first time in many years of his last film career, has real excitement and shine in his eyes, laid out in this role with all his soul, not as an example of his total despondency in the fifth “Nuts” or the playfulness from the second “Mop Throw”, and Parker from the first part is completely bold and develops very strongly as a character.
Newcomers to the franchise in the sequel were also very prominent and solid people. The genius-inventor was Sir Anthony Hopkins himself, who played not much, not little, but again the real Hannibal Lecter! Former girlfriend of Frank Moses and Russian spy Katya became Catherine Zeta-Jones. Well, a Frenchman named Frogman, who arranged the most spectacular, and at the same time the most amusing, chase of the film was played by the inimitable David Thewlis.
Despite the fact that the original mini-series of comics was very short, the writers skillfully continued the work of the first part and wrote a great story. And the film itself remained the same comic, cool and winding. The visual design feature was preserved when moving from locations, but the scale increased. If in the first part the characters traveled to the states of the United States, now they travel around the world and the action jumps from the States to Korea, and from Paris to Moscow. Moscow scenes, by the way, make up almost a quarter of the entire film, but a powerful cranberry type of bears from part 1 is no longer observed.
The second film became less funny, but more cool and large-scale, with more memorable scenes, and even with the composer of “Avengers” and “Captain America” Alan Silvesteri, who picked up a beautiful and stylish audio series for various scenes. Dean Parisot added comic elements, including even the characters of the original comic book in the animated opening credits, kept the cool scenes, but did not turn the cameras around the characters so often, nevertheless keeping a juicy and rich action, without dull shaking, with quite high-quality camera work, giving a number of simply masterpiece scenes, forever remain in memory. The sequel to “RED” did not hit the dirt with its face and performed quite at the level of the great and chic first part! You give me a triquel now! The best never rest!!!
