A film epic on the theme of the First World War This film, like the 1932 film Scarface, I learned from the Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. To be honest, I was immediately interested in this film, so much effort, so much time, so much money (and this was the most expensive film of the time) was spent on this film, and finally I saw it with my own eyes.
This dramatic, tragic story tells the story of two pilots during the First World War. About how it all began (time before the war), well, of course, the war itself through the eyes of these two pilots. In general, throughout the film, the plot does not play a special role. The beauty of this movie is at the end. It is there that the whole human essence is revealed, the concept of valor and honor, cowardice and courage. A complete contrast between the opinions of two brothers in the face of mortal danger. In general, the ending is simply excellent, but the process of the film itself is somewhat delayed. The plot of the film develops slowly, focusing on certain points, while the main idea of the whole film remains undisclosed. There are a few moments that could either be reduced, or even cut and make the film an hour and a half, but in the end it turned out a real aircraft saga.
This film certainly made some contribution to the world of cinema, primarily because it opened the world to Howard Hughes, a director, not just a producer. It was Howard Hughes’ first, and perhaps only, film, apart from his 1943 Outlaw. It is clear that Hughes put all his energy and soul into this film, so he could not make anything sensible.
The film is also remarkable for its scale. It was a real breakthrough in those years. I don’t know how air combat could have been done in those years. Cameras had to be on every plane to create the effect of real combat, and not to create the impression that you are flying not real combat vehicles, and toy planes.
Another very good idea was to introduce the Multicolor system into this film, that is, drawing various shades of green and red on the screen. It looks really cool. Especially ten minutes with the airship, everything was filmed simply masterpiece. Although, while the screen showed the score, it looked a little silly, as if everything was painted after the film, which gave the feeling that they were not real people, but painted men.
In general, the film is very good, anyone who considers himself a movie nerd is simply obliged to watch it, but the rest should not bother, since there is nothing special in this film according to the development of today's technologies.
