Born in France, in 1914 she and her mother came to New York, where she graduated from university. Then she returned to Europe, in 1932 she published her first book, D. G. Lawrence, An Unprofessional View (this book led to Nin’s acquaintance with Henry Miller). At the beginning of World War II, she returned to the United States, where she wrote and published novels and short stories at her own expense. Popularity to Anais Nin came only in 1966, with the release of the first volume of her Diaries.
