Phillip Noyce was born on 29 April 1950 in Griffith, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 12, the family moved to Sydney. In his youth, he became interested in cinema and at the age of 17 made his first film – a short film “Better to Reign in Hell”. After graduating from school, Phillip Noyce entered law school at the University of Sydney, dropped out for rugby, then began studying again at the university, in the department of fine arts. Phillip Noyce was born on 29 April 1950 in Griffith, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 12, the family moved to Sydney. In his youth, he became interested in cinema and at the age of 17 made his first film – a short film “Better to Reign in Hell”. After graduating from school, Phillip Noyce entered law school at the University of Sydney, dropped out for rugby, then began studying again at the university, in the department of fine arts. In 1972 he was admitted to the Australian National Film School. During his studies, Noyce continued to make documentary films, and his film Castor and Pollux won the award for Best Australian Short of 1973. In 1975, Phillip Noyce directed his first professional film, God Knows Why, But It Works, which gave him the opportunity to shoot his first feature film, Backroads, two years later. In 1978, for the film "Newsfront" Noyce received the award in Australia for best picture, best director and best original screenplay. The name of the director received worldwide fame thanks to the thriller “Dead Calm” (1989), in which the current stars played the main roles – Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill, Billy Zane. In the same year, another successful action movie Noyce - "Blind Fury" was released, where Rutger Hauer performed one of his best roles. This was followed by big-budget adaptations of Tom Clancy's technothrillers Patriot Games (1992) and Direct and Clear Menace (1994) with Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. Among the other works of the director - "Slips" with Sharon Stone and "Saint" with Val Kilmer. In 1999, a new film by Phillip Noyce was released - a detective thriller "The Bone Collector" with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie in the lead roles.
