The attitude of the audience to the work of the famous Yugoslav director Emir Kusturica is very ambiguous. Some believe that his paintings are saturated with absurdity and grotesque and difficult to perceive, some simply idolize his work. But there is not a single person who would dare to doubt the unsurpassed talent of Emir Kusturica to see through life and skillfully demonstrate to the viewer all its hidden sides.
Emir Kusturica was born on November 24, 1954 in Sarajevo. From early childhood, he was interested in the world of cinema, so it was quite logical for him to enter the Faculty of Film and Television at the Czechoslovak Academy of Performing Arts. It was there that he created his first short films Autumn (1972) and Part of the Truth (1971). His thesis, short film
Guernica (1978) received the highest award at the festival of student film works and announced the birth of a cult director of modernity.
Even in his student years, Emir Kusturica protested against the injustice of the surrounding world, against the imperfection and cruelty of human society. He put this protest into his paintings, each of which is a challenge to society, revealing the underside of human relations and exposing the unsightly aspects of life.
All his many creations,
Arizona Dream .
"Gypsy Time" .
"Underground" .
"Black cat, white cat" .
"Life as a miracle" and many others received consistently high reviews of film critics and were prize-winners at various prestigious film festivals of the world.
However, Eymr Kusturica’s talents do not end there. He is also known to have formed his own band, the No Smoking Orchestra, in which he and his son played for a long time. Perhaps this is the reason for the excellent flair for great music, which the director masterfully weaved into his immortal films. /
