Italian director and screenwriter Dino Risi worked as a psychiatrist before he got into the film business. In the early 40s he was an assistant director, and towards the end of the Second World War he found himself in Switzerland, where he studied the basics of the profession under Jacques Fader. Returning to Italy, Dino began with documentary shorts and by the early 50s completely abandoned psychiatry to seriously engage in directing. His films are distinguished by a special Neapolitan sense of humor and the ability to comment on almost any situation. Dino Rizi also writes screenplays for his films and short stories for nothing.
