Sergey Mikhailovich Ovcharov was born on April 29, 1955 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1976, he graduated from the film photography faculty of the Moscow Institute of Culture, where he studied at the course of G. Already the first work of the young director and screenwriter - a short film based on Russian folklore "Nescladukha" (1979) - was marked in 1982 with an honorary diploma at the international festival of diploma works in Tour. Other films by Sergei Ovcharov are distinguished by an original author’s approach, whether it is the musical comedy “Unprecedented” based on the story by V. Shishkov “Divers”, or the cinematic tale “Left”. In the film “It”, the director showed Russian history in a peculiar way, fusing together the literary primary source – “The History of One City” by M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin – with easily guessable characters from the recent past, brilliantly created by Rolan Bykov. Unique in modern cinema can be called made without a single word film "Barabaniada", the whole action of this eccentric comedy is accompanied by classical music. The creator of "Drumabaniada" for this work was awarded in 1993 the Grand Prix "Golden Eagle" film festival in Tbilisi, marked by many professional awards, as well as prizes "Golden Aries" and "Golden Knight".
