Leonard Nimoy was born on March 26, 1931. His family belonged to a clan of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. Leonard had a brother Melvin, five years older than Nimoy graduated from English high school in Boston.
The boy joined the acting profession early. When he was eight years old, he first appeared on stage in a production of Hansel and Gretel. Leonard continued to play in one or another amateur production, taking part in various shows until the age of 18. In 1949, he left home to California to start a serious career and earn his own money. After two years in Hollywood, he gets the lead role in the film Kid Monk Baroni.
In 1953 he was drafted into the army. During this period of his life, he meets his girlfriend Sandy Zober. In 1954, they married, and two children were born in marriage - a girl Julie (1955) and a boy Adam (1956).
After returning from the army, Leonard rejoined his acting career. But there was not enough money, so he had to work in restaurants and drive a taxi.
After a successful episodic role in the film "The Lieutenant", he was noticed by Gene Roddenberry, after which Nimoy was offered the role of the Vulcan Mr. Spock in the television series "Star Trek".
This success was followed by a new one in the television series Mission: Impossible (1966-1973), in which Leonard played a master of disguise. He was remembered for such paintings as
"Sinbad: a fog curtain" , "Ketlow", "Lord of the Pages", etc.
Leonard was always interested in art photography, and in 1973 he held his first photo exhibition. He also wrote poetry. In 1977, a collection called You and Me was released. In the same year he received a master’s degree in education. In 1987, Leonard was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The marriage of Leonard and Sandy broke up, and in 1988 the actor remarried Susan Bay.
Leonard is an honorary doctor of humanities for his work in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, as well as for his contribution to the development of art and environmental protection. This title was awarded in September 2000 by the University of Antioch.
The actor is still fond of photography, takes part in various projects. In 2003, together with his wife, he founded a fund to help aspiring artists.
In 2009, the movie Star Trek XI starred Nimoy, where he plays old Spock. The painting was a great success. In 2011, the actor played himself in Bruno Mars’ alternative video, The Lazy Song. /
