In 1985, Grant Shaw played Rick Hyde in the television series Ryan's Hope (1984-1987). The actor was later nominated for an Emmy (1987). After working in the series, he tried to improve his acting skills at the London Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts. In 1992, Grant Shaw made his film debut, playing the role of Randy in the film Woman, Her Men and Futon. In the same year, he took on his most famous role - Jake Hanson in the television series producer Aaron Spelling "Melrose Place" (1992-1997).
