Many future great artists grew up behind the scenes of the theater. Vera Marecka (1906-1978) grew up behind the scenes of the circus. And not even behind the scenes, but in a circus buffet owned by her father, and the lights of the ramp beckoned the girl since childhood. However, parents did not want to hear about the artistic career of their daughter. At the insistence of her father, who really wanted Vera to receive a serious education, she applied for the philosophy faculty of the university. But at the same time in three theater universities. She was admitted at two. Vera chose a studio school at the Vakhtangov Theater.
She graduated in 1924 and it was at this time that Peter Zavadsky, an actor at the Vakhtangov Theatre, decided to create his own studio. Vera left with him and soon became a leading actress in the Zavadsky Theatre.
Interestingly, the young actress at first played the role of characteristic old women. In the first performance, staged by the studio "Simple things" she played Madame Sokovnina - a funny sedate person, and in the play of the comedy "Compass" - Frau Schnutchen, a lisperous fat lady.
However, the comedic talent of Vera Maretskaya was manifested in all brilliance in any role. When Betty Dorlange came to the fore and said, “Gentlemen, there is absolutely no one to live with,” the audience did not just laugh – the audience slipped off the chairs.
Simultaneously with her work in the theater, Vera Maretskaya began acting in films. Her first roles were in the films His Call by Yakov Protazanov and his
The cutter from Torzhka . Although most of the films that were shot before the war were ideologically sound, and Vera played the right heroines in them, considered trustworthy, her family could not escape the tragedy. The brothers of Vera, Dmitry and Gregory, were shot as “Bukharinites”. Sister Tatiana spent several years in prison.
Meanwhile, the Mossovet Theatre grew out of the Zavadsky Theatre and Maretskaya was a prima in it. In the 60-70s, Soviet cinema, like theater, was marked by the presence of three great women, constantly competing with each other: Lyubov Orlova, Faina Ranevskaya and Vera Maretskaya. When Zavadsky decided to put on the stage of the Moscow Council “Strange Mrs. Savage” (one of the best performances of the theater of those times), the fight for the role of the main character played out very battle. However, with all three fate played a cruel joke – all three great women were old and seriously ill. Therefore, the role passed from one to another, and “filled” her Vera Maretskaya, holding on to the stage with the last strength. At one of the performances, Vera Petrovna could not stand it and burst into tears. The room cried with her. /
