Andrei Andreyevich Eshpai was born in 1956 in Moscow. His father is the famous composer Andrei Eshpai. In 1980, he graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), where he studied at the directorial faculty in the workshop of Lev Kulijanov and Tatiana Lioznova.
