Influenced by books about sea travel and fearless captains, he had a dream to enter the Odessa Nautical School, which unfortunately or fortunately failed to come to life. Instead of a career as a sailor, Eldar Ryazanov enters VGIK and shows himself to be a capable and talented student.
Brilliantly defending his thesis in 1950, Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov gives a lot of energy to work in documentary cinema. His works of those years received rave reviews of film critics, and the film “Sakhalin Island” (1954) received an award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955.
