He was born in 1968 in Rio de Janeiro. By this time he was already an expert in computer technology. Nature gave him an artistic flair. All this helped Carlos become an animator. In New York, he graduated with honors from the School of Fine Arts and received a bachelor’s degree. In 1992-1993, Carlos Saldan created short cartoons Time for Love and The Adventures of Korky, the Corkscrew, which won the sympathy of the jury and the audience of several animated film festivals.
In New York, Saldana met Chris Wedge, the creator of Blue Sky Studios, and soon joined a team of young artists. A short time later, Carlos as a senior cartoonist created images of dancing and talking cockroaches in the feature film Joe’s Apartment. He also directed animated computer characters in the films A Simple Wish and Fight Club.
The young director and artist worked in many genres. He created dozens of commercials. For example, on the repeatedly awarded video Big Deal Carlos worked as a director and animator. It was animation in advertising that earned him such awards as the Bronze Clio (1997) and the Golden Clio (1999).
In tandem with Chris Wedge, they created Blue Sky’s first animated films, Robots and Ice Age. The award for such an unusual work was the nomination of the film “Ice Age” for “Oscar” (2003). And the following year, the short film Gone Nutty was again nominated for an Oscar, directed by Carlos Saldana.
