Henry Selick Henry is an American film director, animator, known mainly for his collaboration with the unsurpassed Tim Burton. Henry Selick Henry is an American film director, animator, known mainly for his collaboration with the unsurpassed Tim Burton. The masters worked together on the animated puppet tapes “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “James and the Giant Peach”.
Henry Celic was born on November 30, 1952 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Been interested in animation from an early age. At the age of 12, he saw animation in Harrihausen’s films Sinbad’s 7th Journey and Lott Ranger’s The Adventure of Prince Ahmet and was fascinated. This kind of art became his dream.
After studying at Rutgers University and Syracuse University, as well as at St. Martin’s Central College of Art and Design in London, he graduated from CalArts, where he studied animation. While still a student, he was nominated for the prestigious Academy Student Award for two works of his own invention. While working as an intern, Henry took an active part in such projects as “Little One” and “Pete in the Dragon”.
Selik’s work attracted the attention of professionals: Henry received a grant from the National Art Foundation, after which he made a short film “Leak”. Then Henry Celic paired with Tim Burton to create
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" . In 1994, this picture was nominated for the prestigious Oscar as a film that presented the best visual effects.
