Pete Postlethwaite was born in Cheshire, England on February 7, 1946. The boy from childhood planned to become a priest, but eventually worked as a teacher at the school for several years.

Leaving teaching, Pete entered drama school and got a job in the theater. In 1977, the actor was first invited to star in the film Duelists directed by Ridley Scott, for whom this work was also his debut. Then the actor appeared in the films “Private celebration”, “Kill the priest” and “Cyrano de Bergerac”. The roles were minor, and the actor remained unnoticed until he starred in the 1988 film Far Voices, Frozen Lives.
In 1990, Pete Postlethwaite played the role of George Mary in the American-British film Treasure Island, based on the novel of the same name by Robert Lewis Stevenson. For his role in the movie In the Name of the Father in 1993, Pete received an Oscar nomination. In total, this picture received 7 nominations for the “Oscar” and Grand Prix at the Berlin Film Festival.

Pete Postlethwaite passed away in January 2011 from pancreatic cancer. After his death, he was nominated for the BAFTA award for best performance of a supporting male role in the film “City of Thieves” directed by Ben Affleck.
