Jeter began to play in local theaters, and in 1978 he made his debut on Broadway - he played in the production of Once in a Life. At the same time, he made his film debut, getting a small role in the famous Milos Forman musical Hair. After several theatrical seasons, the actor received the Theatre World Award for his role in the play G.R. Point. In total, he received several awards for theatrical work, including “Tony” for his role in the Broadway musical “Grand Hotel”. Michael Jeter was best known for his role as Herman Styles in the television drama Evening Shade; he won an Emmy Award for Nyon. Among the films with the participation of the actor are Terry Gilliam’s films “The Fisher King” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”, the action films “Water World”, “Downing Zone”, “Tango and Cash”, the gangster saga of the Coen brothers, Woody Allen’s drama “Zelig”, the thriller “True Crime”, as well as the films “Healer Adams” and “Jacob the Liar”, where his partner was Robin Williams. In 1996, Michael Jeter was diagnosed with AIDS. He himself is very philosophical: “Just because you have AIDS does not mean that you are unhealthy. For me, this disease is no worse than diabetes. As long as you adhere to a regimen that has a beneficial effect, you will be healthy.”
