He was born in Brooklyn on January 22, 1937. He began writing songs as a teenager, and the start of his career was largely facilitated by a successful neighborhood - Al lived across the street from the Warner Brothers division, Vitagraph Studios, and together with his brother, they often took part in the shooting of trailers.
Very soon his first songs were in the repertoire of Jackie Wilson, Elvis and Bobby Darin, and at the age of 22, Cash decided to try his hand at producing. He has worked with many outstanding artists, including Charles Aznavour, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and other stars.
Successful was his collaboration with composer Joel Hirschhorn, with whom they wrote songs for such films as
"The Adventures of Poseidon" and
Rising hell" Oscar winners. The duo also has two Tony nominations for the musicals Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Copperfield, two Grammy and Emmy nominations each, and four Golden Globe nominations.
