Robert Sheckley was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on July 16, 1928. Growing up a boy in Maplewood, since childhood he loved to read and wanted to become a writer. After high school, he entered New York University, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree. A year later, his first short story was published, the author was published mainly in science fiction magazines.

In 1954, the writer received the award “Best debut”. Most of Robert's colleagues recognized him as the best science fiction. In the 60s of the last century, he was actively published, his works were even in the journal “Playboy”.
Robert Sheckley earned a reputation as a brilliant satirist and humorist, but his humor clearly visible disturbing notes, as can be seen from the works: “Absolute weapon”, “Gun that does not swing”, “Seventh victim”, “A warrant for murder”.
He also wrote scripts for the television series Beyond the Green Door and Captain Video, which were later read by Basil Rathbon on the radio.
In 1954, Robert’s author’s collection “Where No Man Has Stepped”, in 1955 – “A Citizen in Space”, and then – “Pilgrimage on Earth” and “Infinity Shop” was published.
According to his works, four films were shot: “The Fugitive”, “The Tenth Victim”, “The Price of Risk” and “Escape from Hell’s Island”.
In the 70s, the author traveled a lot around the world, sailed, managed to work as the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Omni”. In the 80s, most of the works of the writer were translated into Russian, and he gained unique popularity in the countries of the former USSR. In the 90s, the author worked on computer game scripts, one of the most famous is Netrunner.
In 1991, his work was awarded the Daniel Galan Award for contribution to science fiction, in 1998 the writer was awarded the “Wanderer” award in St. Petersburg.
In 2007, the series “Chronicles of the Future” was released, which was based on Sheckley’s novel “Guardian Bird”.
In total, Robert wrote more than 400 stories and short stories, as well as 15 novels. The popular writer died in December 2005 at the age of 77 in his hometown.
