Vladimir Viktorovich Orlov was born on August 31, 1936 in Moscow in the family of a journalist. His childhood was spent in evacuation in the Mari SSR. From 1954 to 1959 Vladimir studied at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University. He spent his student years in mastering virgin land. And the practice of journalist Orlov took place in the newspaper “Krasnoyarsk worker”. In 1959, Vladimir Viktorovich began working as a correspondent in the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. He was the author of the essays “The road length of seven centimeters” and the novel “Salt watermelon”. And after his novel After the Rain on Thursday was published in 1969, the author switched to a professional writing job.
In 1975, Orlov’s novel “The Incident in Nikolsky” was published. 1980 was the year of the publication of the novel Altist Danilov. It was this work that brought the writer incredible and instant fame, beginning a series of works in the direction of fantastic realism. It is in the novel “Alticist Danilov” that the author continues to reveal the theme of the “devil” origin of the creative gift, making the main character, a magnificent viola player, the son of a devil and a peasant woman from Yaroslavl. But as a result, Danilov abandons such a source of strength for his talent because of his love for an ordinary earthly woman. He didn’t lose his talent, but he played better than before. By and large, "Alticist Danilov" simply became a harbinger of the novel "Apothecary".
And the novel “Apothecary” became a reflection of the situation in the country that was happening at that time, when everyone massively began to be carried away by otherworldly forces, mysticism, clairvoyance and miracles. But as a result, the author leads to the idea that a person does not need the help of supernatural forces to give people good.
Recently, Orlov teaches at the Gorky Literary Institute. he directs a prose seminar and does not leave his work.
Vladimir Viktorovich Orlov died on August 5, 2014 in Moscow.
