Since 1952, as a director, he has directed three musical theaters in Leningrad, Volgograd and Krasnodar.
In 1956-1964 - Chief Director of the Leningrad Theatre of Musical Comedy, in which he created a legendary troupe of actors. In this theater he staged "Kiss of Chanita" Milyutin, "Duchess of Herolstein" Offenbach, "Violet of Montmartre" Calman, and "Gypsy love" F. Legar with Vyacheslav Tymoshin in the title role.
Together with his wife Natalia Gorina, also an actress of the Chamber Theatre, he taught at theater universities in Moscow. In 1957, he began making his first and only film, Mr. X, starring George Oates. The film originated from his own 1956 theatrical production.
