Grigory Yaron is an outstanding Soviet master of operetta, one of the brightest representatives of this genre, a talented comedian, a true master of buffoonery, who stood at the origins of the Moscow Operetta Theater.
Grigory Markovich was born on February 25, 1893 in St. Petersburg, where, after graduating in 1912, he began to play in the St. Petersburg Small (Suvorinsky) Theater.
In the years of his studentship, he debuted in the operetta, with which he later connected his whole life. Since 1927, the time of the opening of the Moscow Operetta Theater, he tirelessly engaged in productions on its stage and himself played in operettas of classics and Soviet contemporaries. Among the latter was B. Alexandrov, whose operetta “Wedding in Malinovka” was first presented to the public on the stage of this theater, and Yaron himself memorably played the role of Popandopoulo in it.
In addition to the theater, he worked a lot on the radio, where in the 1950-60s he led a series of programs about famous composers-authors of operettas, took part in the radio montage of musical performances, sometimes, however, very rarely, starred in films. His most famous work here is the role of Pelican in the first film adaptation of the operetta.
