Maxim graduated from Saratov High School No. 2 in the late nineties, as a schoolboy, planned to devote his life to medicine, but changed his mind. At the school graduation ball, he was noticed by V.V. Smirnov, a student of the famous theater and film actress V.A. Ermakova, a teacher of the Saratov Conservatory. It was he who, with his expert eye, noticed the talent in the young man and gave Maxim the phone number of Valentina Alexandrovna. As a result, Matveev handed over documents to two universities at once – to the Saratov Conservatory named after Sobinov for the theater faculty and the Academy of Civil Service. Having passed the exams, Maxim Matveev was enrolled in the theater, and immediately in the second year and finished it in 2002.
After graduating from the Moscow Art Theatre School (course of I. Zolotovitsky, S. Zemtsov), Maxim Matveev was invited to the A. Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre Company. It was on the stage of this theater that he made his debut in the play “The Beast of Piedmont”, magnificently playing the role of the knight Jorpheus.
