A cheerful, restless, inquisitive boy enjoyed a multifaceted love, which his parents indulged. Richard received his first school education at St. Joseph's College, which is located in the city of Ipswich. After graduating from college in 1995, the young man entered Cambridge at St. Catherine's College, which he successfully graduated in 1998. As a student, Richard took an active part in the productions of the theater club and from 1997 to 1998 he was even president of the club. Richard Ayoade was the screenwriter of many productions and in many of them he participated himself as an actor.
After graduating from theater college, Richard briefly performed stand-up comedian on radio stations and achieved great success in this field.
In 2004, Richard first appeared on television in a small horror series “The Dark Place of Garth Marenga”. The young man was the director of this series and starred in it himself as an actor.
In 2005, Richard was cast as Ned Smanks in Nathan Barley.
The great success and popularity of the actor brought the comedy television series “Computers”, in which Richard played a major role, starring alongside such popular actors as Catherine Parkinson and Chris O’Dowd. Richard's character is a timid and indecisive programmer with clear signs of autism. In 2008, the actor was awarded the prize of the Monte Carlo Festival for his professional role in the TV series “Computers”.
Most of Richard’s work is also directed. He worked a lot on creating music videos for such famous bands “Arctic Monkeys”, “Supper Furry Animals”, “The Last Shadow Puppets” and others.
In September 2008, Richard married actress Lydia Fox. The family lives in south London. /
