It seemed that journalism, in which Leonid became formally involved since 1977 (he entered the journalism department of the Leningrad Zhdanov University) was created specifically for him: after graduating from the university, Parfenov was published in all the most famous Soviet publications - from Krasnaya Zvezda and Pravda to Moscow News and Ogonyka. Since Parfenov is from Cherepovets, Vologda region, in 1983 he became a correspondent in the newspaper Vologda Komsomolets, and then worked on Vologda regional TV in Cherepovets.
The first experience in television was productive, and Parfenov’s television career began to gain momentum. In 1986, he became a special correspondent for the youth editorial office of the Central Television, at the same time he worked as a correspondent for the program “Peace and Youth”, and three years later, in co-authorship with the Central Television.
