Neil Blomkamp was born on September 17, 1979 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At the age of 16, he began working as an animator for Deadtim.
When he was 18, his family moved to Vancouver, Canada, where Neill Blomkamp was enrolled and began his studies at Vancouver Film School.
In early 2000 he worked as an illustrator and visual effects artist.
Blomkamp came to prominence after the release of District 9, the director's first feature film, which is based on the story of Alive in Joburg, an early Blomkamp short.
